Expert Group Meeting on Nutrition and the SDGs under Review in Preparation for the High-Level Political Forum Participants Bios Seth Adu-Afarwuah Seth Adu-Afarwuah is a Senior Lecturer of Nutrition at the Department of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Ghana, Legon. He obtained his PhD degree in International Nutrition from the University of California, USA. Before joining the University of Ghana, Mr. Adu-Afarwuah worked with the United Nations Children’s Fund in Accra. Dr Adu-Afarwuah’s research is in the area of maternal and child nutrition, with a focus on the prevention and treatment of undernutrition. Since 2009, he has been a member of the International Lipid-based Nutrient Supplements (iLiNS) Team and has participated in some of the pioneering research on the use of small-quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements (SQ-LNSs) for improving the nutrient intakes of women and children in low-income settings. Dr. Adu-Afarwuah has contributed to many publications on the impact of pre- and post-natal SQ-LNS supplementation on child growth and development, and served as a Nutrition consultant for many local and international organizations in Ghana. Mario Arvelo Mario Arvelo (Santo Domingo, 1970) is a lawyer, political scientist, writer, public speaker, and career diplomat. He is the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the Rome-based UN agencies and Chairperson of the Committee on World Food Security. Mr Arvelo has been posted to the Permanent Mission to the Organization of American States in Washington DC, and to the Dominican Embassies in Tokyo, in Santiago de Chile, and in Rome. Since 2014, he is the First Alternate Chairperson of the Appeals Committee of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), and is a member of the Governing Council and of the Executive Board at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). While in Rome, Mr Arvelo has been Chair of the FAO Committee on Agriculture; Chair of the Global Soils Partnership; Chair of the Commission on Budget, Programmes and Reform at FAO; Chair of the Group of 77; Chair of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States; Chair of the Group of Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean; Chair of the Central American Integration System; Interim Chair of the High Level World Conference on Food Security, the Challenges of Climate Change and Bio-energy; Acting Chair and Vice-Chair of the FAO Committee for Evaluation of Technical Cooperation Programmes; and Vice-Chair of the FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (in Brasilia and in Buenos Aires).

Marion Barthélemy is the Director of the Office of IntergovernmentalSupport and Coordination for Sustainable Development of the UnitedNations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). Beforejoining the Division, she was Director of the Division for PublicAdministration and Development Management, in DESA, from 2016 to2018. From 2012 to 2016, Ms Barthélemy served as Chief of theIntergovernmental Support Branch at the Division for SustainableDevelopmentatthesameDepartment.Inthiscapacity,shewaspartofthe

His principal interests are the bio-psycho-social problems of weightregulationfromobesitytoanorexianervosa,andthebenefitsoftheMediterraneandiet;hislaboratoryresearchinvestigatestheeffectsofnutritiononcognitivefunction.Froma synthesisof thiswork,MrBerryevolvedandpublished theconceptof the<Sociotype>tounderstandhowpeoplecopewithlifestressandchronicdiseasesingeneral, and food insecurity in particular. Rochelle Diver, Anishinaabe, is a member of Fond du Lac Band of LakeSuperior Chippewa inNorthernMinnesota. She is currently a consultant for theInternational Indian Treaty Council’s (IITC) Environmental Health ProgramspearheadingIITC’sworkwithIndigenousWomenandtheUNChemicalandMetalConventions within the United Nations’ Environmental Programme. NicholaDyerSinceApril2015,NicholaDyer,aCanadianandUKnational,hasworkedasProgramManageroftheGlobalAgricultureandFoodSecurityProgram(GAFSP),amulti-stakeholderprogramhousedintheWorldBankGroup.Duringalmost25yearsattheWorldBank Group, she has worked in various operational andcorporateroles.Early inhercareersheestablishedtheWorldBank’s office in Gabon, which prepared her well to serve asSpecialAssistanttotheBank’sVicePresidentforAfrica,thentowork on numerous countries on the continent. She also has worked on industry and energy in theMaghreb,andcountryprogramsintheWesternBalkans.SheledtheWorldBankGroup’sOfficeofEthicsand Business Conduct at crucial junctures, helping to build its advisory practice, and designing anddeliveringtrainingprogramsandworkshopsforseniorinternalandexternalstakeholders.Diversityandinclusion are key areas of focus for her. James Garrett is currently a Senior Research Fellow at BioversityInternational. Previously he worked at IFPRI, where he led research programs onurbanfoodandnutritionsecurityandonpolicyprocessesforfoodandnutrition.Healso served as IFPRI’s country coordinator for Mozambique. Other areas of workinclude the impact of policy research on policymaking and on how to workmultisectorally innutrition.HeworkedattheWorldBankasasenioreconomistfornutritionandatFAO,leadingthedevelopmentoftheirnutritionstrategy.Since2013,he has worked with IFAD to support the mainstreaming of nutrition into its

Lora Iannotti has expertise in maternal and young child nutrition and nutrientdeficiencies(zinc,iron,vitaminA,B12,andcholine)relatedtopovertyandinfectiousdiseases.Herresearchfocusesonepidemiologicalandinterventionstudiestoreducestuntingandanemiainlow-resourcepopulations.Dr.IannottileadsprojectsinHaiti,Ecuador, and East Africa where she collaborates with local partners to testinnovative, transdisciplinary solutions using sustainable animal source foods andsmalllivestockdevelopment.MsIannottiservesasAssociateDeanforPublicHealth,leadingtheMPHprogramattheBrownSchool.ShereceivedherdoctoratefromtheJohnsHopkinsUniversityBloombergSchoolofPublicHealth,andaMasterofArts

Ms Johns has done research in the area of development studies in Africa,traveledextensively inEurope,LatinandCentralAmericaandhasdonework in theareaofgender,ethnicity/raceandpublichealth fororganizationsboth inBrazilandEurope.ShehasbeenrecognizedasasocialentrepreneurbyAshokain2010.MsJohnsis theco-founderanddirectorof theACTHealthPromotion, formerAlliancefor theControl of Tobacco Use, a Brazilian coalition of over a thousand organizations and

professionalsfromalloverthecountry,createdin2003tomonitorandsupporttheprocessofratificationandimplementationoftheWHO-FrameworkConventionforTobaccoControl(FCTC)atthenationallevel.The scopeofworkofACThasbeenextended todealwith theother risk factors forNCDsandaNCDcoalitionhasbeenestablishedin2013.ShehasalsoservedasChairoftheBoardofDirectorsoftheFCA–FrameworkConventionAlliancein2012,forwhomsheservedasaMemberoftheBODforsixyears.MsJohnsisalsoanelectedmemberoftheBrazilianNationalHealthCouncil(CNS),thehighestestablished
