SUMMARY
The Indian plastics industry offer excellent potential in terms of capacity, infrastructure, and
skilled manpower. It is supported by many polymer producers, plastic process machinery
and mould manufacturers in the country. Among the industry’s major strengths is the
availability of raw materials in the country. Thus, plastic processors do not have to depend on
import.
India’s plastics exports grew 55% to $3417 million in April-June 2021 quarter and grew 60%
in June 2021 (YOY) as compared to $2211 million in April-June 2020. The Plastics Export
Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL) takes several initiatives to increase exports to the UK,
France, EU and the US. In 2021-22, it has been expected the growth 20-25 % in exports. It
should touch $ 12 billion from $ 9.5 billion in 2020-21. During April-May this fiscal year, it has
exported goods worth about $ 1 billion. The immense potential of Indian plastic industry has
motivated Indian manufacturers to acquire technical expertise, achieve superior quality
standards and build capacities in different facets of the booming plastic industry.
