1.COMPETENCESWe decided to use the Driscoll model of reflection to our three competences. The 3 questions system are developed by John Driscoll in 1994, 2000 and 2007. Driscoll matched questions to the stages of an experiential learning cycle. WHAT? stands for description, SO WHAT? for analysis and NOW WHAT? for action planning.

WHAT?

What did we do?

We set eight research questions that helped us to create our innovative product. We were searching for information about traditional scoring systems to analyze it and find potential gaps in the market. We had psychological questions connected to winning and losing, adaptation of new things in our lives and effect of sport tournaments on children's development.

Additionally, we researched our environment. We used the concept of PESTLE analysis, which gave us a birds eye view of the whole environment from many different angles. Based upon this we created a strategy to implement this EPS in our environment. We made design of our product and showed it to our contact person, classmates and teachers and we asked for feedback.

SO WHAT?

How did I feel at that time?I was excited about the idea of a new scoring system and had the feeling that we are going to change a whole society. I was searching answers to the research questions while feeling very curious. What are the positive aspects?I really like adapting/changing old systems, which has been working for a long time and coming with improvements to contribute to society, by increasing the motivation of children to play. I really see a positive in influencing both parents and coaches. Positive aspect was also that we were able to find relevant information. What troubles me?Some people with skeptical minds.

Were your experiences in comparison to your colleagues etc.?I found that we experienced our product in different ways. We didn’t come with some new tangible thing. There is a whole system behind.

NOW WHAT?

What are you going to do about it? We are going to test the ESP system with several football clubs in Slovakia and assess its success. Then we will partner with the Slovak Football Association. What might you do differently if faced with a similar experience?I would ask for more professional opinions from football clubs and more diverse aged groups. So I would invest more time in the first phrase.

Change of government

After Slovakia gained independence from the former Czechoslovakia in 1993, market reforms made it one of Europe’s rising economic stars. It entered the European Union and NATO in 2004 and the eurozone in 2009. Prime Minister Robert Fico’s center-left Direction-Social Democracy Party (Smer) lost its parliamentary majority in 2016, but Fico remains leader of a coalition government that includes Smer, the Slovak National Party, and the center-right Bridge (Most-Híd) party. Independent Andrej Kiska was elected president in 2014. Slovakia has rebuffed EU plans for mandatory migrant quotas. Its small, open economy is driven mainly by automobile and electronics exports. Unemployment has mostly remained above the EU average but also has been falling; youth unemployment, however, remains high.

Currently, the political situation in Slovakia is facing difficulties. Governmental bodies will change and that could influence sports and our product as well.

(Slovakia Political System, Slovak Government, President of Slovakia, n.d.)

Growth

Slovakia is ranked 29th amongst 44 countries in the Europe region, and its overall score is below the regional average but above the world average. Slovakia has been one of the fastest growing economies in Europe.

Slovakia’s transition to a market-based system was interrupted by political instability that damaged its institutions after its separation from the Czech Republic. It is still affected by widespread corruption and a weak judicial system that remains inefficient and vulnerable to political interference. Continued transformation and restructuring are needed to capitalize on the well-educated labor force and broaden the production base. Progress to enhance the quality of the public sector has been uneven, and additional reforms have been resisted by influential politicians. Development in football

Slovakia has enjoyed an independent existence as a footballing nation since 1 July 1993. The fledgling country’s greatest success to date was a third-place finish in the 2002 UEFA U-19 Championship in Norway to secure a place at the FIFA World Youth Championship UAE 2003. Fourth place on home turf at the 2000 UEFA European U-21 Championship was another noteworthy achievement that won them a starting berth at the 2000 Sydney Olympics football tournament.

Prior to independence, of course, Slovak playing and coaching staff were an integral part of Czechoslovakian sides that won major honors at senior international level. These included the UEFA European Championship title in 1976, a third-place spot in the same competition in 1980, and runners-up finishes at the 1934 and 1962 FIFA World Cups.

Futbalnet is a large website powered by Slovak football association. It serves to show most important information(results, lineups, referees, number of spectators…) from every football game taking place in Slovakia. I covers all football leagues from the highest one to smaller local competitions. Furthermore, futbalnet includes all results, standings,

nominations(and much more) from all national football teams of Slovakia starting with A-selection, continuing with selection of Under 21, Under 19 and so on. (Futbalnet, n.d.)

Regulation

Slovenský Futbalový Zväz - Slovak Football Association

It is the governing body of football in Slovakia based in Bratislava. It has the ultimate responsibility for the control and development of football in Slovakia and is the body that runs the Slovakia national football teams.

It was founded on 4 November 1938 and originally became a member of FIFA in 1939, but disbanded after World War II because Czech and Slovak football competitions combined, and so did the national teams. Following the breakup of Czechoslovakia, the organization was reformed, joining the European governing body, UEFA, in 1993 and rejoining FIFA in 1994. (FIFA.com, 2003) (Football Wiki, n.d.) (Slovenský futbalový zväz, n.d.)

E

Most popular sport in Slovakia is football. In Slovakia are 427,000 officially registered football players which is more than in any other sport discipline in the country. Moreover, this giant number makes exactly 8,5% of the whole population of the country (Siskovic, 2012) (UEFA.com, n.d.)

1.1.2. 8 Research questions

1. How many people play football in Slovakia?

There are 427,000 football players, which is almost 10% of the population of the country.

(Siskovic, 2012)

2. How many football clubs are in Slovakia?7

Page 9: EXTRA POINTS SYSTEM  · Web viewResearching and designing options for sports and exercise2. 1.1.1. PESTLE3. 1.1.2. 8 Research questions6. ... We were searching for information about

There are exactly 591 football clubs in Slovakia. (Unknown, n.d.)

3.How do people respond to the new things?

Anything that’s new, different or unusual is bound to catch our eye. In fact, we can even be drawn to novelty without being conscious of it. Of course, this makes a lot of sense—we wouldn’t get much done if ordinary things captivated us constantly. The cool thing about this is how intricately novelty seems to be associated with learning, which means we can use this knowledge to our advantage for learning new things and improving our memory. The SN/VTA only activated when shown absolutely novel stimuli—images that had never been seen before. (Cooper, 2014)

4. How does the old scoring system works?

● 3 points – win, 1 point – draw, 0 points - loss

● Greatest number of points obtained in all matches.

● Goal difference

● Greatest number of goals scored in matches.

● Head to head result

Almost every time, ties will be broken by one of those four rules. However, should the teams remained tied, FIFA has more tiebreakers.

● Goal difference resulting from the matches between the teams concerned.

● Greater number of goals scored in all matches between the teams concerned.

● Drawing of lots by the FIFA Organizing Committee.

(Woosley, 2014)

5. How competition builds character?

The idea that sport builds character comes from 19th-century Britain where many believed the playing fields were the training ground for the discipline necessary to produce leaders in adult life. Physical activity, they thought, was a social experience that powerfully influenced attitudes and values.

8

Page 10: EXTRA POINTS SYSTEM  · Web viewResearching and designing options for sports and exercise2. 1.1.1. PESTLE3. 1.1.2. 8 Research questions6. ... We were searching for information about

The key virtue the British tried to instill in young people through sport was a sense of fairness and justice. Following rules, respecting your opponent, not cheating, and learning how to be good winners and losers were considered by headmasters to be part of what it meant to be a good citizen. Their philosophy was not to play for external rewards like money or fame, because that would tend to make one act unfairly. The notion that sport builds character does not sit well with today’s critics of competitive sport. The external pressures of high profits and high salaries have often led to the corruption of these ideals. Instead of building character, competitive sport, which values winning above all else, challenges this notion. The more important winning becomes, the more the rewards for fair play and other values are likely to be diminished. With proper leadership, sport provides the opportunity for children to:• acquire an appreciation for an active lifestyle • develop a positive self-image by mastering sport skills • learn to work as part of a team • develop social skills with other children and adults • learn about managing success and disappointment • learn respect for others.(Mango, 2013) (Paris, 2017) (Austin, 2010)

6. In which way do sport tournaments help to develop young players?

UEFA is making a significant contribution to the progress of young boy and girl footballers throughout Europe thanks to its international development tournaments, which are playing a key role in helping youngsters gain a real taste of a competitive environment.

The tournaments are a true learning experience for youngsters – not just technically but also in personal terms, allowing them to share the experience with peers.

"I can say they are enormously important, especially from a sporting point of view," said the president of the Football Association of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FFM), Ilcho Gjorgioski. "They are a great idea. The players are given the opportunity to exchange ideas, information and knowledge with the coaches, and also the chance to make new friends." (Chaplin, 2014)

7. Why do people dislike losing?Psychological research shows that people vary on a continuum called regulatory focus. Promotion-focused people are driven by the thought of winning. Prevention-focused people are driven by the desire to avoid loses. You love to win or you hate to lose.

Most of us never think about regulatory focus. We assume we love to win AND hate to lose. But think about it, because it can change your desire to engage in competition in the first place. (Kornell, 2012)

8. Why parents sign their children up to sport clubs?9

Page 11: EXTRA POINTS SYSTEM  · Web viewResearching and designing options for sports and exercise2. 1.1.1. PESTLE3. 1.1.2. 8 Research questions6. ... We were searching for information about

For their children to learn and master skills, work with their peers and coaches, challenge themselves in a safe environment, learn the value of practice and the challenge of competition.

Most parents – through their support, encouragement and understanding – help their children have fun and reach their potential in their chosen sport.

Unfortunately, certain types of involvement and behaviors from parents can take away from a child’s experience and enjoyment. Poor spectator behavior can have a huge impact on the performance and concentration of the young athletes competing. It may even affect their desire to continue with sport. (Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU), 2017)

WHAT?

What did we do? We completed a marketing presentation, which we presented to our classmates and we sent it to our contact person. In that presentation we explained our product to the audience and introduced our promotional strategy, which is based on the website and personal meetings. We created our motto for the system: MAKE IT PLAYFUL.We designed our website with basic information about us, about our WHY, HOW and WHAT. We added our logo and pictures for visualization.

SO WHAT?

How did I feel at that time?I enjoyed the creation of the presentation- I found suitable pictures and ordered the slides, but I did not like to present in front of people. I have to get more comfortable doing this. What are the positive aspects?

I think the positive side of marketing was that we managed to create a website by ourselves. I really like that we could implement the Golden Circle in our marketing strategy. What troubles me?That people concentrate more on surface of our product that on it’s meaning. Were your experiences in comparison to your colleagues etc.?I observed that for majority of classmates, websites and designing of presentation were more important than for us. I am sure for selling tangible things it is more important.

NOW WHAT? What are you going to do about it?We aim to present and promote our product to the market with football tables to make it even more tangible.

What might you do differently if faced with a similar experience?I would play around more with the design of the website.

1.2.1. USP´sThe 3 biggest benefits:

Simple – Anyone can use it; implement it, easy to use.

Motivation - It motivates players to perform better, to score more goals and not to concede any goals.

Helpful – It can help players to improve their skills when focusing on performance not on result, to coaches to see their players performing better, it makes it more interesting for fans and parents.

Unique: The EPS is unique in the children world of football, especially in Slovakia where nobody knows this system. It will be something new for everyone involved.

Pain point/ performance gap: We improved the system to make it more interesting for defensive players and goalkeepers, when they do not concede a goal they will be awarded with extra points as well. Some might not agree with the system because results are not the most important anymore.

Specific and offer proof: Research (PESTLE), interview and reviews (players and coaches)

One clear and concise sentence: #MakeItPlayful

Integrate into marketing materials: Website

Deliver: Ask in football club throughout our promoter and via emails.

1.2.3. Review from player

Lukáš Belošic (player of SDM Domino U-10, 10 years old)1. Yes2. I will like it, because there will be more goals in almost every game.3. It will motivate me to shoot more often and to score as many goals as possible.

Sometimes when I play as a defender I would feel more motivated to stop the attackers of the opponent´s team to keep clean sheet and earn another point for that.

4. Only weak point could be that some players would play by their own to score goals only by themselves, so they would be more selfish.

1.3. 9. Managing the work processes of a sports and exercise organization in an enterprising manner9.1 Management9.2 Entrepreneurship9.3 Leadership

WHAT?

What did we do? In the beginning of every week we equally divided tasks and set time to which they must be done. We had 1 personal meeting each week, where we talked about and check if everything is done well and on time. We worked together in school and contacted each other through social networks (FB, WHATSAPP). We were in role of entrepreneurs several times: we had speech in elevator in front of investor, we presented several presentations in front of class and teachers, we contacted clubs via emails, we effectively communicated with control person. We both lead our idea in way we want. We exchange role of leader once David lead our session and next time it was me. We made all decisions together while we served to each other. Our leadership style is servant one. First serve and then lead.

SO WHAT? How did I feel at that time?I felt very secured and motivated, because we managed our time effectively.

What are the positive aspects?Positive for me is that we change leadership and always help each other. What troubles me?Sometimes, mainly during presentations it was difficult for me to have that professional look. Were your experiences in comparison to your colleagues etc.?We had really nice meetings with yummy food and that spending time was nice and we respect ideas of each other.

NOW WHAT?

What are you going to do about it?We are going to present final professional presentation and sell our product. What might you do differently if faced with a similar experience?I would try to present myself more professionally as a serious entrepreneur.

1.3.1 Division of workWe have collaborated on every aspect of our innovative sports product together. We divided the work every week and then we were helping each other with his/her difficulties. Stanka is more into details and design thinking, so she improved the design of our website. An example is the presentations we presented. David is more into researching and contacting people personally, he cared more about the content of the presentations. We have cooperated together very well during the whole module and each of us had something what the other was missing.

2.MOTIVEWHY?

Nowadays our society is impatient with results. With our Extra Point System we focus on children aged between 9-11 years old to teach them how to play football, not how to win matches. We believe that the most important thing within small kids is to motivate and develop, which can help the kids in their improvement in every match and they can become better players.

HOW?

We collaborate with SDM Domino, which is a local football club in Bratislava. We will implement our system on tournament organized by this club and the idea is to spread this system among other football clubs in Slovakia. Afterwards, we would like to present the system to the Slovak Football Association, based on reviews and references from already experiencing clubs and players, in hopes to finance more tournaments or projects with this young player's developing system.

WHAT?

With our new Extra Point System, your team does not gain points only for winning matches. Your team gets an extra point for every goal they score as a reward for the offensive game. Furthermore, if you do not concede any goal during the match, your team will be awarded another extra point for the clean sheet for good defensive work.

4. TARGET AUDIENCE

Our target audience is children who play football between the ages of 9-11. We focus on them because we believe in that age is crucial to improve every aspect football player should have to be successful in the future.

We are going to communicate with coaches of football clubs who train children between 9 and 11 years old. Then we will collaborate with parents of these children to receive feedback from them about our system to be able to improve it or adjust it.

5. FINANCEFor a good start we will need to contact several football clubs, so we will need some money to charge our phone costs. We will have to travel a lot throughout all the clubs to pitch the EPS, therefore money is needed for travel costs. Promoting the project will be a cost too. Our project is like a long run and the first results will be visible in 4-5 years. We believe when at the age of 10, children will focus on their performance and development (not only on the results), the focus on results will come at the age of 15, and more so on an international level. Then our country will be in advance compared to others, what may have a positive effect on the financial status of the country and football clubs/associations. We are going to partner with the Slovak Football Association to promote and finance our project and to spread it throughout every region in Slovakia. We would like you to invest in our project for 5000 Euros and we are sure that the investment by worth the while.

6.10 FACTORSWe have contacted 10 football clubs in Slovakia by email, presenting our idea to them and offering them our services.

Here are 10 football clubs we contacted: SDM Domino Bratislava, FC Ružinov Bratislava,

FK Inter Bratislava, Sk Slovan Bratislava, FC Petrzalka akademia, Sk Vrakuna, FC NMSK, FKM Karlova Ves, FK Dubravka, FALAF

7. REVIEWS1. Do you like our EPS? (Extra Points System)?

2. If yes/no what exactly?

3. Do you think it will actually motivate children?

4. What you think is a weak point of this idea?

Mieke Van den Akker:

Aahhhh yes

I am curious how it is going to be in practice. How people will react to it cause talking about new products in football are always seen very critically

But I do think, that it's very suitable for younger football lovers because it shows them that sports is not only about winning but also has elements of competitiveness (if that's a word:D)

Weak point could be acceptance and that it is kind of "hard" to understand when you hear it for the first time cause it's completely new and different and away from the classic way

Teun van der Heide:

1. Yes

2. What i like about the Extra Points System is, that it provides players with an extra motivation to get clean sheets and to Keep scoring goals besides the motivation of trying to win.

3. It will provide more motivation to get clean sheets. But i think children will get Just a little more motivated to score goals, since children are already very motivated to score goals by themselves, their coaches/trainers and even parents.

4. The only weak point is that a team which does not win all their matches can still become champions, by scoring a lot more goals. So this could lead to teams consisting out of only attackers would be a good tactic, which leaves kinds Who are good defenders but bad shooters out of the selection, since scoring one more goal is worth as much points as a clean sheet.

Peter Belošic (Assistant of coach and parent of player)

1. Yes2. I think the game itself would be more interested for everyone; for parents to watch it, to

players to perform better and for coaches to have better insight on their players.3. From my point of view very motivating could be the fact, that for every goal team get extra

point, so children could cooperate more together on the field. 4. Sometimes it could be unfair for the teams which score less goals even though they could

perform very well.
