1. EXISTING SITUATION AND INTRODUCTION
Figure 1 illustrates the existing layout in the area that is to be renovated. The area is highlighted
in Figure 2.
Figure 1: Existing layout of equipment it the area
2. REASON FOR THE CHANGE
The East Area renovation will cover the refurbishment of the East Hall with its beam lines and
infrastructure. A re-design of the beam lines is included to improve the magnet situation, the
radiation situation and maintainability in general. The performance of the new beam lines will
be improved in terms of maximum momentum and in choice of particle type. Considerable
energy savings will be possible due to a cycled powering mode of the magnets instead of a
steady state one. Therefore, several magnet families have to be re-designed to be in accordance
with the purposes of the project.
3. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
As part of the renovation of the East Zone, the F61 line will be completely renovated, this
includes the following activities:
1. Replacement of all magnets
2. Renovation of magnet interlock system (Switch to WIC system)
3. Renovation of the beam instrumentation
4. Replacement of beam stoppers
5. Renovation of the vacuum system
6. Replacement of mechanical supports

8. Reorganization of the shielding along the beam line
8. Modification of the interface b.352 / b.157 (Passage from a concrete partition to a
watertight wall)
9. New cooling circuit for magnets
10. Removal of obsolete cables and drawing of new cables (Signals and DC)
11. Surveyors will make a new survey network in b. 352 for F61 alignment

Vent PS
To dismantle the Q74 magnet (F61.QFO01), it is necessary to vent the corresponding PS
vacuum sector.
Figure 6: Location of vacuum separation
Change in separation between b.352 and b.157
It is planned to change the separation between b.352 and b.157. An airtight wall will replace
the concrete block wall. As long as the wall is not installed, a concrete block will always be
kept in place to ensure that no access is possible through this passage.
