It was then his kinsman who formally declared war in the Carthaginian senate after the capture of Saguntum by Hannibal
He was appointed roman dictator, when Hannibal was coming to attack Rome.
Plutarch tells us that Fabius believed that the loss at Lake Trasimene was due to the fact the gods had become neglected.

Fabius refused to meet Hannibal in a pitched battle. He fought a war of attrition He used delaying tactics. Hence the name Cunctator (delayer) He also used scorched earth tactics. The romans were unimpressed with Fabius’ defensive
strategy. Fabius was called by priests to assist with sacrifices
and he left Minucius in charge of the roman army. Minucius was labelled a hero for attacking the
Carthaginians.

Hannibal in the final battle at Zama He was one of the finest
commanders of his time. Scipio joined the army at a young
age.

was killed. Scipio wanted to be in command of
the roman army. He was elected to consulship at the
age of 31

Carthage no longer had their allies by this stage.
Carthage tried to negotiate peace with Rome. They ended up declining these negotiations
and declared war. Hannibal had an infantry of 58,000, a cavalry
of 6,000. Hannibal also had 80 war elephants Scipio had an infantry of 34,000 and a
Calvary of 8,700

Hannibal arranged his infantry in three lines designed to overlap the Roman lines.
Scipio thought a step ahead and changed tactics to beat them.
This caused the elephants confusion and fear, and they turned to run back, trampling Carthaginian soldiers.
Scipio eventually ended up winning that war at Zama.

He never lost a battle. First general to expand territories out
of Italy and on islands. He led the way for later generals like
