Facts for January 19 January (3 rd Monday in January) Martin Luther King Day – a national holiday in the USA. Martin Luther King was born in Atlanta Georgia and after experiencing racism early in his life he decided to try to make the world a better and fairer place. He campaigned to achieve equal rights for black Americans. He is famous for his speech ‘I have a dream’ and one famous line from it says ‘I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character’. Dr King was assassinated on April 4 1968 in Memphis Tennessee.

Eco Club

We would like to ask as many classes as possible to help us count starting next Monday, 26th January – Friday 6th February. To prepare for this you could:•Watch the powerpoint with your class•Have a closer look at what birds you might like to look for•Check out the posters around school with details of birds•Do an activity

The counting has already started but we wanted to wait till next week. P1 and P3 classes are going to have a visitor – Lindsey Taylor from RSPB. They will be making food to attract birds to the school grounds.

Eco Club

This coming weekend, 24th & 25th January is the Big Garden Watch, where you can count birds in your garden and upload your results. You can register to do this by following this link:

Mrs Gillon made a map last year to show places where birds may come and where the bird feeders are. Have a look at this on the interactive white board with your class. It is also displayed just outside the office.
