Dr. Jerome Brimmage has just been appointed to serve at Lufkin UMC in Lufkin, TX in July 2015. Dr. Brimmage has served Cypress UMC for seven years and his last day to preach will be on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 8:15, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services.

With the leadership of Dr. Brimmage, the church has been a part of two exciting partnerships with their adopted Cy-Fair ISD schools, Adam and Millsap Elementary. From the very beginning of his ministry he has always sought to reach out to the hurting. “I have a passion to seek and save the lost. I believe the church is the hope of the world and the church has the opportunity in this day and time to make a difference in people's lives,” says Dr. Brimmage. His ministry will be greatly missed in the community of Cypress.

There will be a “Farewell Luncheon” for Dr. Brimmage and his family at Cypress United Methodist Church, on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in their Ministry Activity Center.

The parade details are coming together wonderfully for our Independence Day parade that will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 4th. Just a reminder than anyone can join in on the fun!

PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A NEW ROUTE THIS YEAR beginning at Ault ES and ending at Salyards MS:  Line-up on Maple Village Drive in front of Ault ES, left onto Chappell Knoll, then follow the circle onto Fairfield Park Drive, left onto Fairfield Green and ending at Salyards MS.

Parade floats may begin lining up at 8:30 on Fairfield Green in front of Keith ES.  This new route is directly related to safety by getting our parade traffic off of Mason. The order of the parade will be:• None other than our very own Fairfield

Volunteer Fire Department leading,• Boy Scout Troop #533 presenting our

colors,• Grand Marshall,• Floats that include Fairfield organizations,

businesses, and residents,• Motorized vehicles that include golf carts

and four-wheelers (line-up in parking lot closest to Vintage Falls Drive),

• Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards (line-up in parking lot closest to Vintage Falls Drive), and

• Pedestrian traffic (line-up in parking lot closest to Vintage Falls Drive).

Please note it is imperative for everyone to stay in the order above. In years' past, four-wheelers, motor scooters, and bicyclists have ridden ahead causing a safety issue for parade participants as well as spectators (think small children running to retrieve candy). We ask that everyone help with keeping all participants in line so no one gets hurt on this wonderful day of celebration. Also, no water guns, please.

What we still need?• A Grand Marshall - we would love to

feature an active duty female this year!• YOU! The more the merrier! You can just

be a group of neighbors that want to get together and have some fun on the 4th to make a float but we also need our neighbors to watch all of the fun.

• Let's paint Fairfield red, white and blue by wearing your patriotic gear and putting your American flags out!

• Please be considerate and help us pick up any trash from the festivities.

“Tennis for Children 9-10 years old and under – Green Ball”

Look in the next Newsletter for: “Tips for children 11 years old and older – Yellow Ball”. For more information about our programs and club information, you can visit us at www.greyrocktennis.com or call us at 512-301-8685.

This series of Tennis Tips are focused on how to involve children of all ages learning to play tennis and offering tips to the parents on how to assist at home. In the last issue I offered advice for children 9-10 years old and under playing with the softer orange ball and on a 60’ foot court. This issue, will focus on children 9 and 10 years old and under playing with the green soft ball and on a 78’ foot regular size court.

Caption 1: Tennis Racket and balls: The children should be using rackets ranging in length from 25” to 27” long along with the green ball. These longer, lighter rackets and bouncier balls will make it easier for the child to control the swing and the point of contact with the ball. The appropriate racket to use will depend on the height of the child. Balls will bounce from 47” to 53”, which is within the comfort zone for most children of that age.

Caption 2: Tennis Court: For those players ready to cover the regular size court, they will now be playing on a 78” x 36’ tennis court. Lines are now painted regular white making it much easier to see the ball landing, especially while the opponents are serving. Players need to be physically ready to cover the entire court.

Caption 3: Make Tennis Your Kid’s New Pick-Up Game: Just like any other sport or skill, repetition is the key to learning. Once basic skills are learned the child will:• Receive Mind and Body Workout

• Develop Confidence and Character• Encourage Self-Control and Discipline• Improve Fitness and Focus• Offer Both Individual and Team Play• Encourage Cross-Training and Low Rate of Injury• Teach Problem Solving and SportsmanshipChildren at this age are already playing points and are given

tips on how to hit groundstrokes, volleys and serves with control. The USTA provides tournaments and leagues for children 10 and under using the green ball on the 78’ courts. Matches are normally 4 game sets and they are encouraged to play round robins and/or consolation rounds.

Tips to parents:• Take your child to a tennis court and encourage them to

drop the ball and hit it on their own.• Afterwards, feed the green balls from your own service line

to them standing on the opposite service line. Fee the ball softly and with control. Make them move very slowly and with body control.

• Have them stand on their base line and feed balls next to them. Later move to the service line and once successful, move to the opposite side of the net.

Community Service. Making friends. Building character. Traveling. Leadership building. Giving back. Scholarships. Leaving your mark. That’s what Key Club is; a place where everyone is welcome- whether it be freshmen, sophomores, or upperclassmen. Key Club helps students to leave their mark at Cy Woods, and have fun while doing it.

The ‘Key’ in Key Club is what generally mystifies possible members. “What is that club? Do you make keys or something?” No, Key Clubbers don’t spend their time each semester making keys. They spend their time volunteering, donating, and giving back to their communities. They also spend their time doing service projects like making bracelets for children’s hospitals, weaving blankets for animal shelters, and even creating coloring books for kids in homeless shelters. Also, this past year, Key Clubs from Texas and Oklahoma saved thousands of mothers and children by raising money for the Eliminate project: an organization that uses the money that clubs fundraise to give mothers and babies around the world a vaccination against Neonatal tetanus, a diesase which could prove fatal to both mother and child if not treated properly. Though Clubbers spend

Jordan Miller, Editor of Cypress Woods Key Club

Key Club: What is it?most of their time devoted to service, the Cy Woods Key Club does interact with their members in a different way: Socials. Socials are a meeting that takes place after school, and anyone is welcome. Usually, these socials take place with another club such as Cy Ranch or Cy Fair. This month’s social is taking place at TxR Paintball, where two clubs will face off in a game of paintball.

In High School, most teenagers find their niche in an organization, and whether it is football, art, or culinary club, teens make friends in these organizations and possibly end up in leadership positions once they have a few years of high school under their belt. The important thing is, once a teen finds something they like, they stick with it and usually leave their mark through that interest. If teens show an interest in community service and center their after-hours time to volunteering, they could be granted possible scholarships by the Tex-O-Key (Texas Oklahoma Key Club) District.

Teens that leave their mark with volunteering and serving their community make the most out of their high school experience, by making an impact that will last for years.

Traveling the world and experiencing new cultures is something many dream of but few are able to do. Hosting an Ayusa exchange student provides the opportunity to experience the world while bringing other benefits to their family and local community.

For schools, opening their doors to an exchange student provides their students the opportunity to experience new cultures and expand their understanding of the global society. Not only will students be able to expand their circle of friends, they will be able to reference different perspectives of world events. The new perspectives that both local and exchange students gain through the exchange experience are invaluable for the ever-expanding global community.

Ayusa exchange students are eager to learn and participate in school and community programs. They take their role as ambassadors for their country seriously. Ayusa students are not simply bystanders to their program year; they are active participants looking to make a difference in their host school and community.

Aysua exchange students are strong academic performers, well-rounded, and open-minded. Prospective students go through an extensive interview process in their home countries and are evaluated for maturity, strength of goals, leadership skills, and academic

Four-lined plant bugs are brightly colored.  Nymphs (immatures) are red while older nymphs start to have wing pads with yellow and black stripes.  Adults have fully developed wings that are yellow and black striped.  Adults look similar to, and may be mistaken for, striped cucumber beetles.

These insects have piercing-sucking mouthparts which they use to suck out plant juices.  The plant bugs suck out chlorophyll and leave a "window" between the upper and lower epidermis of the leaf. Damage appears as white, dark or translucent spots of foliage and is sometimes mistaken for fungal damage.  Feeding may also cause curling and browning.  Fortunately, damage is mostly cosmetic, but if you are trying to eat the foliage of the damaged plant it may become a problem.

FOUR-LINED PLANT BUGS

disability, genetic information or veteran status.

The insects feed on a wide variety of hosts, including  fruits and vegetables, annuals and perennials and woody plants.  When disturbed, the insects are fairly good at hiding.  They either crawl to the underside of the leaves or drop to the ground to hide among foliage.

If you feel the need to manage these insects, try insecticidal soap.  If that doesn't work, you can try azadirachtin (neem- concentrate, not oil; it's getting too hot to use oil formulations) or pyrethrins.  If that doesn't work then try a residual contact product.
