*** Attention New and Former Members ***NEW MEETING DATE –4th Tuesday of each month

Want to meet some interesting characters? Open a book. Want to meet some real-life interesting characters, too? Join a book club!

TOP 5 REASONS TO JOIN OUR BOOK CLUB: • You meet interesting people. The trick is not to join a book

club full of your best friends. It is a great way to meet new people. Our book club is composed of women of all ages and these ladies hail from all over the world. In addition to gaining quite distinct views on the book at hand, we also gain a window into others lives, which can be so very different from our own.

• You read things that you wouldn’t otherwise read. Which ties to point #1, people outside of your immediate circle of friends are more likely to have different literary tastes. We all know it is more beneficial to read a wide variety of styles, but it is difficult to pickup books outside your comfort zone. Joining our book club is a great way to expose your self to variety. We can learn from both the good and not so good writers.

• Some books need to be discussed. Need I say more?

• You eat great food. The hostess provides soft drinks and dessert and then others bring a small dish or wine to share. We always have something great to eat and drink.

• Sometimes it’s fun just to chat. Finally – we do talk about the book and some discussions are longer than others but we also chit chat. It is just a great way to meet and get to know other women. A book club is a great excuse to make and keep friends. Taking the time to enjoy your self and have some fun with books and other people is reward in itself. We meet the 4th Tuesday of each month from 7:00-9:30pm.

We read all kinds of books suggested by our members – classics, contemporary fiction, non-fiction, biographies, romance, sci-fi, etc. There are no book snobs in our group – we read it all! Ask about our inventive way of choosing books to read! If you are a book lover or simply want to expand your reading and social network, please consider joining us. We invite any woman in Fairfield or surrounding subdivisions to attend one of our meetings as a guest or a member. This is a great time of the year to join. Please contact Linda Locke at 713-298-6514 (text or call). Come Join us for an evening!

Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Worldwide, members stage nearly 150,000 service projects and raise nearly US$100 million every year for communities, families and projects. In addition, Kiwanis members actively participate in many service projects in their home communities.

The Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club of Houston seeks to serve this community through sponsoring Key Clubs for high school students, Builders Clubs for middle school students, and Aktion clubs for adults with disabilities. We provide support to boy scout and girl scout troops and to various other organizations in the community that serve children and families. Enjoy the pleasure of being a part of this service.

Kiwanis members don’t just do service—they have fun. Members make new friends by being part of a club where they attend meetings and participate in social events. Kiwanis clubs also provide excellent networking opportunities for professionals. Members meet new people from all over their region and the world through service projects, fundraising and attendance at district and international conventions.

GETTING INVOLVEDLastly, I would like to invite everyone to find a way to take part in

your sports association.  FSA is a volunteer organization and could use your help to provide the best facilities around.  There are jobs ranging from helping with try-outs, opening day help, field maintenance, and concessions duty.  We hope you familiarize yourself with the Baseball and Softball Committees via our website and reach out to committee members to see how you can help.

Three areas needing the most help are baseball committee, nightly field maintenance and concessions.  These are opportunities to not only get involved and meet great people, but most of all contribute to making Fairfield one of the best places around for our kids to play sports!

On behalf of the Fairfield Sports Association and the Baseball/Softball committee members, I would like to thank you for all your support.

. FAIRFIELD BLOCK WATCH PROGRAM .And Is Now Recruiting Volunteer Block Captains!

WHAT IS THE FAIRFIELD BLOCK WATCH PROGRAM?

BLOCK WATCH is a simple and convenient, proactive way for Fairfield residents to join together to keep the Fairfield community safe and informed, to get to know one another better, to look out for one another’s families and property, and to provide additional “eyes and ears” for our deputies.

BLOCK WATCH is a “branching tree” method of sending and receiving reliable and accurate Fairfield community information. Emails originate from Sgt. Lance Rogers of the Precinct 4 Constable’s office, and are then Forwarded to volunteer Coordinators, Block Captains, and Fairfield residents.

BLOCK CAPTAINS gather and keep current email addresses and phone numbers of the neighbors on their blocks. Block Captains are liaisons to their neighbors by Forwarding emails originating from Sgt. Lance Rogers. It’s quick, easy and effective!

If you are a Fairfield resident and would like to join the Fairfield Block Watch Program by becoming a Block Captain, contact Lee Miller at [email protected].

CY-RANCH HIGH SCHOOL MARDI GRAS MAGIC 2015

AUCTION AND GALA FUNDRAISERSPONSORED BY: SUPPORTING THEATRE AT RANCH

(S.T.A.R.) BOOSTER CLUBThis year marks Cy-Ranch High School’s 7th production year as

a theatrical company. We are under the artistic leadership of Cheryl Bradford (department head), Jane Bankston, and Charles Page. Over the past 5 years, our students have performed to sold-out audiences for musical productions including Hairspray, Anything Goes, Legally Blonde, and Shrek the Musical. We anticipate the same with this year’s production of The Addams Family. In addition to mainstage musicals, UIL competition, Fresh Faces, Comedy Sportz and various other workshops and performances throughout the year, our students annually attend our state’s Thespian festival. This past year, Shrek the Musical received 6 Tommy Tune Nominations. 28 students advanced to the National level and 8 of our students brought home 1st place honors.

CFISD Fine Arts programs do not receive financial support from our school district. Up to this point, our operating budget has been raised through patron attendance and various small-scale fundraisers. On February 6, 2015, the Cy-Ranch High School Supporting Theatre at Ranch (S.T.A.R.) Booster Club will host our second annual Mardi Gras Magic Auction & Gala Fundraiser. This large fundraiser will allow us to go above and beyond our basic operating expenses to help to ensure that we will continue to provide quality opportunities for our students.

The generous support of businesses in our community plays a key role in the success of our program. Donations of merchandise and gift certificates are needed for our Silent and Live Auctions, as well as cash underwriting. Funds raised through Mardi Gras Magic 2015 will be used to help offset the expenses needed to send students to competitions, provide much needed technical equipment upgrades for our theatre and classrooms, and allow us to bring in guest teachers for the continued growth of our program. We are actively seeking partners for this endeavor. Please consider how you can help.

“Bring Your 2015 Goals to Life through a Vision Board”

Businesswomen are invited to learn how to use this powerful goal setting tool

LUNCHEON DETAILSThursday, November 20

Networking 10:30 am; Luncheon begins at 11:00 amSterling Country Club, 16500 Houston National Blvd.,

Cypress, TX 77433Extended session member costs $25.00 with advanced reservations;

guests costs $40.00 with advanced reservations

With 2015 quickly approaching, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about goals for the New Year. Reba Charleston, speaker and lifestyle coach, will lead a fun method of goal setting engaging a number of your senses and with a focus on visualization.

At the Thursday, Nov. 20 Cy-Fair Express Network luncheon, attendees will learn how to create a powerful tool that can serve as an image of the future, representing dreams, goals, and an ideal life. The end result will be both empowering and gratifying.

Among some areas for goal setting are professional, health, family, financial, romantic, spiritual and community. In her interactive presentation, Charleston will share different representational techniques using art and craft materials and social media technology.

To create a personal vision board, bring blank poster boards or construction paper, glue, scissors and magazines or other documents – with pictures, words and phrases that inspire, motivate, and empower- which can be cut up and attached to a vision board.

Aligning herself with individuals to achieve specific goals in growth, productivity, mental and physical wellness, and personal and organizational excellence, this Zumba® fitness instructor and natural practitioner loves to bring fun into everything she does and to inspire healthy, energetic movement.

“Reba’s presence will be an exciting addition to this meeting,” said Jessica Smith, CYFEN president. “Women in attendance will have much to gain by her expertise and shared knowledge.”

This month’s CYFEN meeting is an extended session and begins with networking at 10:30 a.m. followed with a prompt 11:00 a.m. start of the program. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday the luncheon will be held a week earlier that the customary fourth Thursday. Luncheons are held at the Sterling Country Club, 16500 Houston National Blvd.

Having joined the organization on April 15, 2013, he and his team are helping the Foundation reach unprecedented heights as it embarks on the path of financing and rebuilding Kyle Field, the home of the Texas A&M fighting Aggies football team. Over $250 million has been raised from generous Aggies who have also embarked on supporting major new facilities for softball, outdoor track and football operations and player areas. In the early hours of March 7, 1999, Justina Page's life changed forever when a four-alarm house fire ravaged and destroyed her family's home. “The Circle of Fire” is the triumphant story of how Justina, her husband and five children struggled to survive and move on after losing a 22-month-old baby boy, and their home. She shares that personal tragedy is not a life sentence to despair, anger, and continual pain and suffering. Instead, it is a discovery of how something positive can be salvaged from every agonizing experience, even when your faith has truly been tried by fire.
