Zambia

• Zambia is an LEDC. It is located in Africa, next to Botswana.

• It is a country in poverty and the community of Zambia suffer from many illnesses and diseases.

• In Zambia, there isn’t a lot of female literacy.

The People!

Population: approximately 12.9 million people.

Religions: Christian, indigenous beliefs, Muslim, Hindu.

Languages: English (official) and about 70 local languages including Bemba and Tonga.

Education

• Education: there is no compulsory education; seven years free education. Literacy for women:

• 60.6%;

• and literacy for men:

• 81.6%.

Economy

• About two-thirds of Zambians live in poverty.

• Per capita annual incomes are well below their levels at independence and, at $1,500, place the country among the world's poorest nations

• The average life expectancy is about 39 years

• And maternal mortality is 101 per 1,000 live births.

• Zambia is also one of Sub-Saharan Africa's most highly urbanized countries.

• Over one-third of the country's 12.9 million people are concentrated in a few urban zones.

• Once a middle-income country, Zambia began to slide into poverty in the 1970s when copper prices declined on world markets.

History

• The indigenous hunter-gatherer occupants of Zambia began to be displaced or absorbed by more advanced migrating tribes about 2,000 years ago.

• The major waves of Bantu-speaking immigrants began in the 15th century.

• The protection of fundamental human rights was a foundation stone in the establishment of the United States over 200 years ago.

• Since then, a central goal of U.S. foreign policy has been the promotion of respect for human rights,

• The government's human rights record remained poor, although there were improvements in a few areas.

• Human rights problems included unlawful killings; torture, beatings, and abuse of suspects and detainees by security forces.

The Zambian Soap Company

• The Zambian Soap Company is an organic fairtrade organisation who sell soap.

• It’s part of the Fairtrade products.

CNSA Organic Zambian Soap

The Company of Natural Soap Association (CNSA) is a soap that comes from Zambia and it is a fairtrade product. Some of the ingredients are: Central oil, oil seeds, water, herbs, flowers, blossom. No chemicals!

Flavours: Lavender, spearmint, lemon grass and cassia.
