Dear Parents/ Carers,

ROCKETING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT

3-6 EAL/D: Over the last 2 weeks I visited Stage 3 EAL/D sessions. EAL/D stands for English as an Additional

Language and/or dialect. Many of our students come from an EAL/D background and our school receives

additional funding to support these students. I have visited 3 withdrawal groups. During this time children are

learning English with their peers. Activities included reading, writing about themselves and their journey

coming to Australia and using positional language to make a board game. I also visited 4B to work with children

receiving in—class support from Mrs Tsioras—this lesson was matching fractions and decimals.

Take a break with Mrs Karam!

This week I visited the junior and senior netball team and the girls touch football team.

Junior and Senior Netball

I had so much fun visiting the netball team. I worked with the girls on developing their attacking, defending

and passing techniques. We tried a new drill to help us break free when we are attacking. We also spent

time working on our catching and throwing. The girls enjoyed working on their shooting at the end. I was

also thrilled to hear that the teams won on Friday at PSSA. Keep up the great work!

Girls Touch Football Team

It was great fun visiting the girls touch football team. The girls were able to work together to play a mini

game. During this time Mr Kinniburgh coached and supported the girls in improving their passing and

throwing techniques. We also worked on looking for space within the game and playing the ball quickly in

order to not disrupt the flow of the game. I was very impressed with how well the girls listened to the

feedback and worked hard to improve their skills. Well done team!

4 April 2019 Term 1, Week 10

National Happy Day was so much fun at OSHClub as the children

were given the opportunity to choose their favourite toys, their

favourite foods and of course be happy all morning and

afternoon. We were given the opportunity to learn a little bit

more about the kids and what they love to do. We had lots of

watermelon and grapes, some eggs and got to make some really

yummy brownies.

Exploring our Cultures was heaps of fun, especially when we got

to get all dressed up and try guessing where everyone is from.

Harmony day was so much fun for the kids as we had a wide

variety of foods to try and cultural music that we danced to!

Who doesn’t love dressing up, and the kids took the opportunity

of cleaning up our dress up area, to get all dressed up and began

a fashion show to strut their stuff!

As parents, homework can be a little overwhelming, especially

seeing how techniques have changed since going to school

yourself. OSHClub hosts HOMEWORK CLUB, where your

children can get support and help with the difficult questions,

see some of their friends outside of school and also get to fill

their bellies with some Healthy Afternoon Tea. If you have any

questions, please come by the Hall and talk to the friendly

OSHClub staff.

School Banking Information Session. Fairvale Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

Scented Stackable Highlighters

Snowy Origami Set

Icicle Slapband Ruler

Yeti Fluffly Notepad

Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring

School Banking day is Thursday. Each week you need to give your bankbook to class teacher. We will be holding a School Banking Information Session at our school: Time: 8.30am to 10.00am Date: Thursday 11

th April 2019

Location: In front of school office. Please join us and find out more about the School Banking program and how your child can get involved.

If you are interested in opening a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account for your child you can visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account. A School Banking representative will be available at the Information Session to show you how you can do this. In order to verify yourself and your child, you will need your driver’s licence and your child’s birth certificate, but if you don’t have these with you on the day, you can complete verification online at home.

4 April 2019 Term 1, Week 10

On Monday 25th March, the Year 1 and Year 2 SRC representatives were invited to help with the

launch of the new Sydney Markets Central. Students had a great time visiting the Markets and getting behind the scenes. Students were invited to the Learning Centre to watch interactive videos plus were given a tour of the markets & Green Point (Recycling Plant). After the Sydney Markets, students were driven to Homebush for a tour of ANZ Stadium. The tour provided an unbeatable opportunity to visit exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ areas inside one of Australia’s biggest Stadium Facilities. Students participated in activities such as visiting the media centre, the change rooms and walking down the player’s tunnel out onto the field. Mr Carbone
