Welcome and Announcements

Opening Prayer

We have entered Your sanctuary, O God, where there are memories of saints, messages of peace, urgencies of prophets; where death is overcome by

resurrection and the pain of living turned into redemption; where sin is erased by grace, arrogance overcome by humility,

and despair replaced with hope. We are here, and You are waiting for us to receive these gifts.

Make it possible during our time together today to move closer to You and Your will. Amen.

*Call to Worship (Responsive)

We place our trust in God. who hears even our unspoken cries for help.

We gather here today knowing of God’s goodness and mercy; rejoicing in God’s steadfast love which surrounds us.

God’s greatness is evident in creation of which we are a part. Let all nations bow down and glorify God.

For God is great and does wondrous things. May our lives bear witness to God’s loving kindness.

Let us worship God.

*Hymn “Come Sing, O Church in Joy!” #430, Blue Hymnal

Come sing, O church, in joy! Come join, O church, in song!

For Christ the Lord has led us through the ages long! In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and

praise the Lord!

Long years have come and gone, And still God reigns supreme,

Empowering us to catch the vision, dream the dream! In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and

praise the Lord!

Let courage be our friend, Let wisdom be our guide,

As we in mission magnify the Crucified! In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and

praise the Lord!

Come sing, O church, in joy! Come join, O church, in song!

For Christ the Lord has triumphed o'er the ages long! In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and

praise the Lord!

WE LISTEN TO THE WORD OF GOD Prayer for Illumination

Lord Jesus Christ, with all believers may we receive the ability from Your Spirit to grasp the width and length and height and depth of

God’s love as we listen to Your Word.

Song “Wait for the Lord” Jacques Berthier Revs. Mike and Sheryl Campbell Taize Community Prayer (Responsive)

O God, You alone can enable us to accept and to follow and do Your will. Increase our faith.

Help us to trust You when the skies are dark; to accept that which we cannot understand; to be quite sure that all things can work together for

good to those who love You. Increase our hope.

Give us the hope which has seen things at their worst, and which refuses to despair; the hope that is able to fail,

and yet to try again; the hope which can accept disappointment and yet not abandon hope. Increase our love.

Help us to love others as You love them; to love You as You have first loved us; to love loyalty to our Lord above all other things. Help us to love You by not being wearied and burdened by Your commandments

but that it will be a joy for us to obey them, so that in obedience to You we may find our perfect freedom, and in doing Your will, our peace.

So grant to us to fight the good fight of faith; to keep the faith and witness to the love, mercy, forgiveness, joy and peace offered freely through the

sacrifice and grace of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

*Gloria Patri #577, Blue Hymnal Avery and Marsh

Glory be to the Father, and the Son and the Holy Ghost As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be

World without end Amen. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be

World without end Amen. Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen.

Amen, Amen, Amen.

Sermon “The Importance of a Good Grip” Rev. Mike Campbell

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

*Hymn “I Shall Not Be Moved”

Refrain I shall not be, I shall not be moved. I shall not be, I shall not be moved;

like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

When my cross is heavy, I shall not be moved, when my cross is heavy, I shall not be moved;

Like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

Refrain

The church of God is marching, I shall not be moved, the church of God is marching, I shall not be moved; Like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

Refrain

Jesus is our captain, I shall not be moved, Jesus is our captain, I shall not be moved;

Like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

Refrain

Fighting sin and Satan, I shall not be moved. Fighting sin and Satan, I shall not be moved;

Like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

Refrain

*Affirmation of Faith (Unison) Apostles’ Creed (Book of Common Worship, PCUSA, 1993, Westminster John Knox Press)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again.

He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*catholic with a small “c” means universal, all Christians together. Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Invitation to Serve God in the Church and the World

In response to the goodness and love of Christ, let us offer our gifts as symbols of our unwavering commitment to serve

the Lord with gladness.

Offertory “Mine Eyes Have Seen” Lyon

*Doxology Sung to the tune “All Creatures of our God and King”

Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below, Alleluia! Alleluia!

Praise God, above ye heavn’ly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Alleluia!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*Prayer of Dedication (Unison)

Holy God, as You strengthened Jesus to walk the way of the cross, strengthen us to be Jesus' faithful followers, with His selfless love

shaping all our actions. May these gifts and our lives, which we offer in response to Your love

and mercy, be used to proclaim our faith in Christ crucified and risen. Amen.

SENDING FORTH TO WITNESS AND SERVE

*Hymn “Here I Am, Lord” #525, Blue Hymnal

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry. All who dwell in deepest sin

My hand will save. I who made the stars of night,

I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear My light to them?

Whom shall I send?

Page 8: Faith Presbyterian Church - Sermon.net

8

Refrain: Here I am, Lord.

Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night

I will go, Lord, if You lead me. I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord, of snow and rain,

I have borne My people's pain. I have wept for love of them,

They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak My word to them. Whom shall I send?

(Refrain)

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.

I will set a feast for them, My hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide Till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give My life to them. Whom shall I send?

(Refrain)

*Benediction

May the steadfast love of God surround you; The vulnerable love of Jesus Christ inspire you;

The penetrating power of the Holy Spirit surprise you.

*Postlude “Concerto in A Minor” Vivaldi/Bach

FAITH CHURCH — MISSION STATEMENT Faith Presbyterian Church is an inclusive, welcoming, caring community, committed to serving Jesus Christ, who calls us to love God and to love one another. We worship, study and grow in understanding as we work for justice and peace in the world, inspired by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, great things are possible. (From Matthew 17:20)

Welcome to those who have no church home, need strength, have doubt, want to follow Christ, or do not believe. Welcome to those who have worshiped in this place for years! Welcome to our first-time guests! Welcome to all generations, single

people, couples, believers, and to questioners, and, of course, to questioning believers!

We hope you find peace and uplift in our worship today.

We are very glad you are here!
