Wow! Thefirst ninetydays o f my new

    position have flown

by . Many of my jobduties are just old

hat to me. I feel atease with many of

these t asks and amvery apt at

    accompl ishing them.Meetings, answering

calls for help, arranging new ministries or programs and

mountains of pap erwork fil l each day. I

have learned and been reminded of twomportant things .

First, I have learned very quickly that Ineed to gain knowledge in the area of

donations. Most of the programs andservices of this mission rely totally on

donations from supporters like you. I havetried to answer all notes and letters from

donors who have written to me because Iwant each person to know how much we

appreciate each dollar that is donated. Iwant to honor my responsibility as a faithful

servant of God to ensure that Crossroads

Mission is a good steward o f all of ourresources.

Secondly, and most importantly, I havebeen reminded about prayer support of

Christians who support Crossroads. I knowthat this mission has operated for over 45

years on the prayers of the Christiancommunity. That has been our biggest

resource. I know that each of you haveprayer needs of your own. That is why we

want to s tand with you as your partner in

prayer. Please use the enclosed form tosend us your prayer requests. We will add

those requests to our P rayer Partners listand pray for each request we receive. You

may also email us through the prayer linkon our website, or at prayer @ cr oss ro ads m iss ion .or g .

Please to continue to rememberCrossroads Mission in your p rayers each

day . The effectu al ferven t prayer of arighteous man availeth much!

To live togetherwith love, respect, and care while preparing

children to survive andthrive in the democrati c

society is the purpose ofCrossroads Mission s

    new parenting class.

Though the class is newand is barely in its second

session, it has already graduated 14 students.

This Active Parenting class has really been ablessing. It is something that Crossroads

Mission d efinitely needed, says Jenny Hilpert,

one of three Certified Parenting Trainers atCrossroads.

    Jenny, Angela Scala, and Debbie

Summerhill attended an intensive seminar inShow Low, Arizona where they learned ab out

the three different styles of parenting

that are explo red in the 6 week course: dictator, active parent, and doormat. Usi ng the FLAC

method, which stands for Feeli ngs, Limits,

Alternatives, and Consequences, the trainers gis to guide each student o n the road to becoming

an active parent. This is especially important atCrossroads, where the devastating results of lack

of good parenting can be s een first h and.

It teaches parents to utilize active parentingskills on an everyday basisit involves active

communi cation, emphasizes Jenny. It t eache

them how to g et over those little bumps to guidtheir children to t he next step.

The students of th is class are referred by the

Case Manager and must complete the entirecourse as part of their p rogram requirements . T

course is also being offered to t he general publi

as a th ree week seminar. For more in formationcontact Jenny at (928) 783-9362, Ext. 33 .

    M y name is MichaelGietzen. I am from Mt.Clemens, Michigan. I am 39

years of age. I have one brotherand 9 sisters. I started working

when I was 12 years old for alocal farmer. At age 14 I started

using marijuana and alcohol. Iwas able to maintain a job and

party for many years. At age 18I worked for tooling shops. In

the various shops I worked, Iwas always promoted to a

supervisory position. I alwaysmaintained a good work ethic,

even while I partied on a regularbasis with marijuana and

alcohol. At age 27, I gotmarried and shortly thereafter we had one child. Our marriage last

for six years, during which time we both partied consistently andduring which cocaine was brought into the picture. We divorced i

1998. I tried dating but relationships didnt work because of alcohAt this point, I didnt believe I had a problem. I became very

depressed and start ed to take any drug I could get my hands onmeanwhile, maintaining the same job at the tooling shop. I becam

very dependent on heroin and cocaine. I still drank on a daily basi

My family didnt realize how addicted Id become. This went on for five years. My first time in treatment was i

2003 for heroine and cocaine. I was clean for a total of 5 months

before I started to drink alcohol again. I thought as long as I stayeaway from the hard drugs Id be okay. In three more months, I wa

full- fl edged in my addiction again. For the next year I tried to quit several times but the

withdrawals were too painful. I knew I didnt want this lifestyleanymore but I was powerless over the drugs. I needed help bad, b

I was too proud to ask for it. My brother called me up from Yumacheck on me and I told him I had a drug problem. He then invited

me to come live with him in Yuma and attend the CrossroadsMission rehab.

Two weeks before coming to Yuma my nephew and I got introllover accid ent in his truck on our way to see the drug dealer. I

had severe cuts all over my face and arms and I chose not to go tothe hospital because I was so concerned on getting to the dealers

house. We proceeded to take a cab the rest of the way.I finally arrived at the Crossroads Mission on January 30 th,

2005. Through the LSP program I learned valuable tools on how tlive life day by day without drugs and alcohol. I regained my

spirituality and peace of mind. I now have hope and goals set for mfuture. I am now Kitchen Supervisor for the Crossroads Mission.

This allows me to stay connected and help others while helpingmyself stay focused on my goals. Im very happy with the way

things are going in my life now. My relationship with my family i

back to how it used to be. Thank you Crossroads Mission!
