T he leaves have turned colour and everyone is back into the rhythm of another school year. It’s hard to imagine it was only a little over two months ago that summer camp still in full-swing at Chamis- all! This camp season brought 746 campers and 223 volunteer staff together, resulting in many lives changed – in both the young and the old. In the following excerpt from Straight Talk Ministries Octo- ber newsletter, Randy Carter shares an example: “Over the past number of years, I have volunteered in the breakfast store at Sherwood Middle School ... Last winter I had an idea. Wouldn’t it be cool it there was a way to get some of these students to a week of summer camp where they could hear about Jesus? The people of First Alli- ance generously raised money so that finan- cially-challenged kids could go to camp. The week I directed camp, five kids from Sher- wood [School] were present, none of whom knew who Jesus. My plan was to give a clear gospel presentation on Wednesday night at campfire. Wouldn’t you know, that was the night that three of the girls got into a major yelling/swearing match! They were adamant they weren’t going to come to campfire .... I practically had to physically drag them to campfire praying the whole time that they would settle down enough to hear the message. That night, all three of those girls – and one of the others from Sher- wood [School] – surrendered their lives to Jesus. Clearly there was a spiritual power struggle taking place that evening. At each week of camp this summer, I witnessed spiritual victories.” Even as we bury ourselves in our busy fall schedules that leave us exhausted at the end of each day, it is our prayer that in those times of stress we still be able to pause and remember the friendships formed and the special memories that were created at Camp Chamisall in sum- mer 2011! Let’s celebrate what God has done this summer, and remember the impact made on the many lives of both campers and staff – and remember to pray for those summer commitments to Christ to continue to be strengthened through church connections this fall. Fall Retreats Keep Camp Busy Chamisall is more than just 8 weeks of camp each sum-mer. We open our doors year-round for church groups to come and use our facilities and run their own programming. The fall has been very busy and the facility has been used to capacity by four different churches. Here are the bookings from September-November: Eastside City Church Harvest Hills Alliance Youth Rock Pointe Alliance Youth Ladies Craft Weekend Southview Alliance Youth First Alliance Youth First Alliance Young Adults Westside Kings Youth We have seen a number of C&MA groups, which is great that we

are able to support our partnering churches in this way. It has also been a blessing to see other church-es use our facilities to impact the lives of others. Our new facilities are making Chamisall a great place to spend a weekend no matter what time of year it is – and we’re look-ing forward to hosting many more groups as we move into 2012!

To make a booking, call 1-877-322-4592 or e-mail [email protected]

Christmas Craft Sale It’s Sew Easy is a group of women at First Alliance Church who support Camp Chamisall in a tangible way each fall by crafting hand-made quilts, Christmas ornaments, cloth-ing and home décor to sell at their

annual Christmas Craft Sale. This year’s Craft Sale was November 15-17 in the Action Centre at First Alliance Church (12345 - 40 Street SE). It’s a great opportunity to get a head start on your stocking stuffers and support Camp at the same time! This year’s sale gener-ated a total of $6,700. A big thank you to the It’s Sew Easy ladies for donating so many beautiful items all in support of camp! Be sure to mark your calendar for next year’s craft sale in November 2012.

How Can I Support Camp Year-Round?Like all non-profit, ministry-based organizations ... we can’t do it without you! This year, we have ongoing capital expenses like replacing the roofs on the main lodge and washhouse. But God is always faith-

ful and we continue to see the generosity of people like you who, not only give of their time, but

financially as well. We also wanted you to be aware of an unique and great opportunity we have regarding our outstanding loan for the wonderful and well-used recreation centre we recently built. If we are able to make repayments totalling $100,000 in our fiscal year, The Western District of the Christian & Missionary Alliance will negate the interest for that year and all repayments would go entirely towards the principal balance of the loan. This would save us thousands of dollars in interest! So as we come into the season of year-end giving, will you prayerfully consider how you can be financially involved in the on-going ministry of Camp Chamisall? Donations can be made through our website: www.campchamisall.com, by contacting us by phone or mail, or by designating your giving through your local Alli-ance church. Thank you for your support!

Camp is a Busy Place that requires constant care and atten-tion to its many working parts both during the summer season and year round. This year saw many completed projects and work on on-going maintenance, including a complete update of the up-stairs ladies’ washroom in the Dining Lodge (new showers, toi-lets and ceramic flooring) and full maintenance and various upgrades on the camp’s three crucial diesel electric generators. Many hours also went into general construction debris cleanup, making our

grounds more presentable and functional.

Several complete new furnace installations were also done in several cabins, which will en-sure reliable warmth during chilly nights. Construction of several new out-door seating units for our guests and staff including several new picnic table units were added for summer use, and four new guest/staff chesterfield units were also built for and installed in the Dining Lodge. With increase numbers in staff and campers alike, added seat-

ing is always welcomed! Most (but not quite all) of the absolute final construction details have also been completed in the new Recreation Centre. Routine yet essential maintenance was also performed on critical camp equip-ment, ensuring proper function and safety of our facility and resources.

No matter what time of the year, there’s always work to be done! Special thank you to all those who volunteered their time and skills to help with these projects throughout the year.
