YOUR FAMILY TRIP OF A LIFETIME

A transfer across Nairobi brings you to Wilson Airport, the launch pad for your Kenya safari. 4 nights at one of the three Mara Bush Houses (Mara, Acacia or Topi House) gives you time to enjoy the multitude of activities available and put the rat race far behind you. With your own private vehicle and guide, your game drives can depart at any time and can be as long or as short as you and the children would like.

Our staff at the Bush Houses are specially trained to look after your kids, with a wide range of activities. There is a fully-stocked toy room at Mara and Acacia House, mini bush walks, track and spoor identification, a swimming pool shared by both Mara and Acacia House (no pool at Topi House), eco-buddy activity packs with colouring-in books, games and junior spotter lists.

After returning to Nairobi, a flight whisks you off to the magical island of Zanzibar. Here, you unpack and unwind in your own private beach house at Matemwe. Attended to by a personal butler, your meals are prepared as and when you choose. Ease back in a hammock at your private pool, or stroll across to the swimming pools and bar at the Main Lodge. If you are feeling active, you can choose to go on any one of a host of daily excursions on offer around the island.

After 4 nights in this paradise you’ll wish you could spend the rest of your life here.

“It is the quality of the team, led by the wonderful Salaash, that really made this trip special. Great game drives, delicious food (I loved the safari chutney), hands on activities with the children (lighting dry zebra dung to start a camp fire was a first), sundowners watching elephants under the huge African skies and hot water bottles in our beds every night. Looking forward to returning.”

MAASAI MARA

The world famous Maasai Mara eco-system covers approximately 2500km² and is located in southwest Kenya about 280 km west of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi. Travel time to the Mara is about 5 to 6 hours by road, or about 45 minutes by air. Scheduled flights depart daily from Wilson airport in Nairobi or you can charter an aircraft. There are also regular flights (based on demand) from northern Kenya (Lewa) the Kenyan coast and between the Serengeti in Tanzania.

The Maasai Mara is named after the traditional inhabitants of the area, the Maasai people. The terrain, bordering the Serengeti to the south, is primarily open savannah grassland that broken by rocky outcrops in places, small valleys and clumps of acacia trees and some forest around the rivers.

The Greater Mara eco-system is divided into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve (1500km2) and a number of privately owned conservancies which have been established as partnerships between the local Maasai communities and the camp owners. Conservancy fees are used for conservation and ensures economic incentives for the Maasai to set aside land for wildlife conservation.

The Mara is famous for its big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard) and of course for the annual migration, referred to as the ‘Great Migration’, where more than two million

wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle make their way north from the Serengeti in their annual search for fresh grazing. The Mara is also great for bird watching and viewing larger mammals (elephant, hippo and if you’re lucky, the elusive black rhino) and a range of plains game.

Unconstrained by park regulations, the Mara Bush Houses allow for a greater range of activities, which included activities for kids, walking safaris, night game drives and visits to local villages and trading centres.

ZANZIBAR AREA INFOZanzibar is a semi-autonomous state of Tanzania. Situated between 25-50 kilometers off the coast of Tanzania, it consists of numerous small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, informally referred to as Zanzibar) and Pemba.

Arab and Portuguese traders visited the region in early times, and it was controlled by Omanis during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Britain established a protectorate on the island in 1890 and in December 1963 it became an independent sultanate. It joined Tanzania when it became a republic in October 1964.

The capital, located on the island of Unguja, is Zanzibar City, and its historic centre, known as Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site. We recommend guests spend at least one day there, exploring the narrow cobbled streets and plethora of antique and craft shops. The spice farms in the interior are also well worth a visit. At the coast, the warm water of the Indian Ocean laps at white sandy shores and gnarled coral and rock formations. Zanzibar is an idyllic beach destination. The deep sea fishing, diving, snorkelling and other watersports are sensational.

Few international flights use Zanzibar airport. However, connections through to Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Nairobi are good. So, Zanzibar is the perfect beach destination to end your East African safari.
