Challenges in TOEIC Reading Part

The passages can be pretty long. There’s no way I can read them all and still have time to complete the questions.

Solutions: Skim the text to get a general idea

of the content. Practice reading texts common to

TOEIC test topics and time yourself. Look for key words in the questions

and answer options.

TIP!

Be an efficient reader. Reading every word of a passage is NOT reading efficiently. Efficient reading requires skimming and scanning.

You only need to master two techniques:

SKIM

SCAN

How to Skim Read

When you read, you don’t need to read and understand every word. In fact, to answer questions in the TOEIC reading sections,

you often do not have to understand all the words. You just have to find the answers. You don’t have to understand the answer.

Dear Harold,

I am now attaching my presentation for the Malibu Optical Convention next month. As discussed, I’d be very grateful if you could read it and tell me your thoughts. Especially, I wonder if you could help me make it more succinct, as I am concerned that it is a little too long. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, please can you double check that the company logo in page one is in the right format – as you know, I am not good with design!

If you are happy to, could we meet tomorrow or the day after to talk about it? I want to hear your feedback in person. Afternoons anytime after 2 work for me, so please let me know when would suit you best.

Best, Kim

Chime Music, whose Downtown label hosts some of the best up-and-coming artists in popular music, announced Friday its plan to invest in digital sales over the coming quarter. In this way, the company expects to increase sales, and thereby maintain its stable of exciting new artists. The company’s biggest star, Jessica Saunders, won a record four awards at last month’s Music Association Awards, and has had three number one hits this year. However, she is also presumed to be the most illegally downloaded artist, something that Chime aims to address with its new strategy.
