Homework Help forGrades 2–4Homework Help is a place to complete homework with extra support. Students are guided in organizing work, prioritizing assignments and developing techniques to answer their own questions.

Mandarin on MondaysChildren will experience China through “real language” classes in Mandarin. Taught by native speaking educators from ABC Languages, the noted language program, students will be introduced to age appropriate themes through authentic vocabulary and learn to speak in simple sentences. They will be engaged through authentic stories, play Chinese games and learn traditional songs. They will also be introduced to Chinese culture and work on related arts and crafts projects. Students will learn in an instructive, supportive environment. They will participate in a large variety of activities which will allow for differentiated instruction and multiple learning styles. Young EntrepreneursINSTRUCTOR Chuchi Arevalo, CFA, CFE Calling all Entrepreneurs. In this innovative class, you will learn what it takes to launch your own business and how successful entrepreneurs transformed creative ideas into today’s mega-companies. Students select a “business idea,” develop a business plan and “pitch” their venture to a panel. This uniquely formative experience will have a tremendous developmental impact on participants. Open to 3rd and 4th graders.

Cooking Up a StoryINSTRUCTORS Ashley and NyeshaRoll up those sleeves, fasten those aprons, but wait...we can't forget to read! Children will be able to explore the world of cooking through a single story. This FAT phenomenon brings stories to life; transforming them into tasty, sweet, and yummy eats. Join Nyesha and Ashley for some cooking with a literary twist!MATERIAL FEE $75

CATS TennisBe part of this innovative program that allows us to offer tennis instruction right here at Friends! Perfected by veteran tennis professionals and child education specialists, CATS lessons and exercises are carefully tailored to support children's physical and motor skill development. Children will learn how to swing, volley and use proper footwork. With a focus on fair play and positive attitude, students will play real games each week. Limited enrollment.Open to K–3rd graders. WORKSHOP FEE $350

Fencer's ClubOn guard! Develop speed, total body coordination, mental focus and strategy in the unique sport of fencing. All classes will include warm-ups and games; fencing drills that develop footwork, sword technique and tactical thinking as well as actual fencing bouts. And you might even pick up a few Shakespearean quips! Rental of mask, glove, jacket, and foil included.Open to 2nd–4th graders.

INSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT FEE $420

Xtreme Winter Football BSNYSnowfall and cold December winds would keep other classes indoors, but not so for Xtreme Winter Football. Utilizing “touch-tackle” rules in the Outer Courtyard, this class keeps the game of football safe and exciting. So lace up your boots and grab a pair of gloves because we’re playing through the season just like the pros. Coaches from BSNY will include Division 1 College Players.Open to 2nd–4th graders.

Rocking Lego Robotics withTEKintellectStudents learn to design and construct original, mechanized models from Lego® components. They receive instruction fY[UfX]b[�h\Y�gW]Ybh]ÑW�df]bW]d`Yg�YaVYXXYX�in the models, and then proceed quickly to a fun, hands-on, multi-sensory experience, in which they construct the models and play with them. Carousels, cranes, dune buggies, conveyer belts, windmills and more will come to life in your child’s hands, through their own effort and ingenuity! At the end of the trimester, students will take home the model they built and can use the components to keep building new creations. Open to K-2nd graders.

Ramp Jams≥OFF-CAMPUS INSTRUCTOR Kevin Banahan, Skate YogiThe NYC skate scene moves indoors for the winter and so does the FAT Skate Club! Hop on the bus as we head to Skate Brooklyn for a private session at their indoor mini half-pipe and skate facility in Park Slope. There's something for everyone whether you're a seasoned thrasher or just starting out--no experience necessary. For beginners, we will cover the basics of skateboarding such as balance, pushing and turning. The more advanced can learn to drop in, pump the transitions and slash the coping. Skateboard, pads and helmet required. Group will return

at 5:30 p.m.

Sit and KnitInstructor: Julie Brush, Knit-WitAn exciting opportunity for beginners to learn the fundamentals of knitting, andadvanced students can hone their skills. Participants will learn everything fromcasting on, knitting, purling and binding off, to cabling, reading patterns and garment shaping. Open to 2nd-4th graders.

Child's Play NY: Acting the MythEver wonder what the snakes on Medusa’s head talk about? Ever seen an infomercial for Arachne’s loom? Do you know what you would do if you came face-to-face with a Minotaur? Well…wonder no more! In this dynamic improv class, classical mythology is our springboard for dramatic play. Kids learn about classical mythology while playing theater games. They invent their own myths and characters based on the heroes, gods, quests that they learn UVcih�Xif]b[�h\Y�gYaYghYf"�H\Y�ÑbU`�g\ck�is a presentation of hilarious and dynamic scenes from the Greek myth cannon.

Ice Skating at Chelsea Piers≥OFF-CAMPUS Learn all the fundamentals of Ice-skating in a fun and safe environment. With enough participation, part singing will be introduced, along with popular songs and special youth-oriented choral arrangements. Explore Engineering & Robotics + Dazzling DiscoveriesExplore and create using batteries, lights, motors, robotics devices, construction materials (Lego, Knex, etc.) and lots of recyclables (cardboard, bottles, egg cartons, old CDs, etc.). Using the principles of engineering mechanics and physics to understand how and why things work the way they do, students will learn problem solving, basic robotics, simple programming, design process and construction skills. Child's Play NY: Mini Musical: Jungle BookThis session introduces children to the world of the Broadway musical. We "play" with the story and characters from the Rudyard Kipling book and other jungle stories and work on songs from the Disney classic that are appropriate for developing voices and exciting to perform. Creative movement combined with choreography gives the students an artistic physical outlet. Theater games and artwork surrounding Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera and his crew, support the children's understanding of how to create a character. Class culminates in a performance of our character-driven improvisations, songs and dances.
