Basketball Stars of NY: Skills and DrillsGirls BasketBall/Boys BasketBall

This trimester BSNY will offer two separate BasketballPrograms one for Boys and one for Girls. This new in-depthClinic will help students develop and broaden fundamental skills, such as running, shooting and dribbling and then apply these skills in weekly games. Coaches from Basketball Stars include former Division 1 college players.

Comic Book Creationsinstructor Nicole ParcherCalling all comic book lovers! Make your own comic book, using your imagination to create heroes and villains with untold super powers. Comic book artists will also make a poster, card game, mini movie strip and a T-shirt—all featuring their own character designs. Open 5th & 6th graders.

TUESDAY

Lego Robotics with TEKintellectStudents learn to design and construct original, mechanized models from Lego® components. They receive instruction regarding the scientific principles embedded in the models, and then proceed quickly to a fun, hands-on, multi-sensory experience, in which they construct the models and play with them. Carousels, cranes, dune buggies, conveyer belts, windmills and more will come to life in your child’s hands, through their own effort and ingenuity! At the end of the trimester, students will take home the model they built and can use the components to keep building new creations.

Clay Worldinstructor Jorge Cruz, Character SculptorUsing special modeling clay, instructors from Miami Beach’s Clay World will help students create figurines of animals, people, monsters and more! All creations built during class can be taken home. You must go to clayworld.org to see for yourself some of the creative projects to come!

Get Fit with FAT! Girls Only!instructor Lindsey K Yacobush, Certified Fitness Instructor"Get Fit with FAT" is an energetic introduction to the fundamentals of fitness and strength training for young girls. The class covers circuit training, strength training, cardiovascular endurance conditioning and overall body awareness using multiple modalities and training equipment. It's never too early to teach the young women of today how important and esteem boosting it is to be strong, healthy, fit and confident all in a nurturing environment! Open to 5th and 6th grade girls.

NY Empire BaseballStudents will be grouped by age and skill, and engage in a series of lessons and games throughout the season. The lessons include baserunning, throwing, pitching, catching, hitting, infielding, outfielding, in addition to on-field communication and situational awareness. NY Empire Baseball has a unique culture, built around hustle, hard work and teamwork. Lessons in respect, honesty, discipline, and work ethic are woven into the fabric of everything we teach. Program will be held in Central Park and Empire’s Indoor Arena at 243 W60th Street. Children will return to school at 5:30pm.Open to 5th graders.

Mold Makinginstructor Nora ChavooshianIn this class we will multiply our creativity by making molds of our 3D work. We’ll take molds of our art, found objects from home and nature, and anything we can think of. Then we’ll pour into our molds a variety of materials from plaster to edibles like chocolate. We’ll make toys, permanent artwork and edible artwork and even create a 3D community mural as a class project where each student will create a piece of a larger mural and cast it twice so one piece stays in school as a part of the whole mural and the other piece goes home to be enjoyed by family and friends.

Teen YogaKarma Kids YogaLearn effective yogic tools to build inner and outer strength and flexibility while practicing fun Yoga Poses, Partner Poses, Group Poses, Yoga Games and Activities, Restorative Yoga, Flying Partner Yoga, Circus Yoga and more! We'll practice breathing techniques to calm, energize and balance the nervous system, age-appropriate meditations, as well as deep relation while building a healthy and strong body. Positive self-awareness and esteem are encouraged. Come play Teen Yoga!

BSNY Xtreme FootballKick off the third trimester with a spirited drive toward the end zone! Whether our field is the Outer Courtyard or the Playroof, “touch-tackle” rules will ensure safety and excitement while we run, block and pass for yards. This is an all-weather class so lace up your boots and grab a pair of gloves because were playing straight through till November! Fun is only a first down day away! Open 5th graders only.

Dodgeballinstructor Kevin Banahan, Average JoeFinally, a sports game for the masses! Whether you like to charge the line with a CC Sabathia throwing arm or prefer to hide and wait with the sneakiness of a chess master, dodgeball offers fun and excitement to every style of player. We will mix it up by alternating between the three sets of rules—Army, Jailhouse and Elimination. Open to 5th graders.

Chorusinstructor Joanna Pickett, Choral DirectorCome, sing! This is an opportunity for motivated, enthusiastic singers and vocalists to explore more challenging choral material. With enough participation, part singing will be introduced, along with popular songs and special youth-oriented choral arrangements. Healthy and natural development

of the young person's singing voice is the underlying principle of the group. Open to 5th graders.

Explore Engineering & Robotics | Think it. build it.Explore and create using batteries, lights, motors, robotics devices, construction materials (Lego, Knex, etc.) and lots of recyclables (cardboard, bottles, egg cartons, old CDs, etc.). Using the principles of engineering mechanics and physics to understand how and why things work the way they do, students will learn problem solving, basic robotics, simple programming, design process and construction skills. Create unique interactive projects.
