PROSPECTUS 2021

I. INTRODUCTION

Fazl Ali College established on 8th September 1959, has emerged as one of the leading

educational institutions of the State. It is the oldest College in Nagaland and is a co-educational

Government College affiliated to Nagaland University. Located amidst beautiful natural

surroundings, the College is about 5 kilometres from Mokokchung town

The College functioned as a private College until 1962 after which it was taken over by the

Government of Nagaland. Science stream was introduced in the College in 1983. Today the College

has 16 departments in Science and Arts disciplines

The objective of the College is to promote higher learning and to produce students who are

second to none in academic quality. It is the constant endeavour of the College to mould the young

minds and give them guidance towards the unfolding of the intellectual faculty latent in them

II. VISION

To develop the College into a hub of multidisciplinary studies and a centre for indigenous

research of National and International relevance

III. MISSION

To mould students to face the challenges of contemporary society and to possess

definite target goals so that they can act as catalyst for socio-economic change

To produce students who are ethically sound, creative and second to none in academics

To strive towards academic autonomy in order to maintain high academic standards and in keeping with the Nation’s Education policies

To expose students to ICT enabled Teaching-Learning processes while maintaining

relevant traditional methodologies

To focus on original and need-based research on indigenous resources

To focus on Nation building by strengthening Community Extension Services and collaborations

To build and strengthen transparency and decentralisation in academic and administrative roles

IV. College Logo

In olden times, the Ariju (Morung) was an Institute of Learning for the village. The Ariju was

the seat of learning to inculcate discipline and knowledge, training in handicrafts, warfare and other

life survival skills. The Ariju within the circle in the logo thus signifies imparting holistic life

education and skills to students in the College in present times

The words ‘Academia Nulli Secundus’ meaning ‘Second to None in Academics’ signifies the

prominence of the College as the first institute of higher education to be established in Nagaland,

and thus second to none.

V. Institution Highlights

1. College Uniform: The College uniform is a full-suit in dark-blue, with white shirt/ T-shirt.

Every student is required to wear the College uniform daily to class

2. Co-curricular Activities : Students are encouraged to take active part in the College extra

and co-curricular activities, such as

Games & sports, Literary activities

Red Ribbon, NCC and NSS

Eco club, Cultural club, and so on

3. Students’ Union: Each student of the College is a member of the Fazl Ali College Students'

Union (FACSU). The Union, for its management, realizes a certain amount as student's

union fee from every student

4. Hostel Facilities:

Cool Creek and Nathan Memorial for boys

Valley View and Athena for girls

Any student is eligible to apply for a hostel seat in a separate form during the time of

admission/submission. Hostel seat will be allotted on the basis of merit-cum-interview

5. Instituted Awards: Any student may aspire to qualify for and win attractive cash awards

such as

Chubainla Award for Academic Topper (Highest CGPA) Rs.10,000/-

EU Student of the Year (Academic, Ethical and Spiritual) Rs. 5000/-

Dr Longrizung Award for Academic Excellence (Arts & Science) Rs.5000/- each

Akok Walling (Debater of the Year) Award Rs 3000/-

Linneaus Award (College topper in Botany) Rs. 3000/-

Dr AK Choudhary Award (College topper in Mathematics) Rs 5000/-

6. Other Features: The College has adopted all possible measures to make teaching and

learning process student-centred and offer quality education. Students can make optimum

use of the facilities/ opportunities given to them through the following :

(a) A Welfare Fund to facilitate differently-abled and needy students to pursue their studies

in the College

(b) Career Guidance & Counselling Cell to enable the students to seek guidance in matters

pertaining to their future career options

(c) The Mentorship Programme to advise and guide them throughout the academic year.

Through this programme, students' talents are explored and potentials discovered and all

possible guidance and help are extended to them

(d) The Students' Grievances Cell to enable the students to provide feedback and get their

grievances redressed

(e) The Appraisal and Assessment of each teacher by the students is yet another innovative

practice in the College to facilitate quality teaching

(f) A Medical sub- centre located in the College Campus and a Sub-Post office attached to

the College

(g) The College provides regular Bus services for students, staff and faculty on payment of a

nominal fee

(h) With the objective toward learning and development of indigenous skills for both boys

and girls, Ketsangriju, a centre established for the purpose of teaching handicrafts.

(i) A Translation Centre launched to undertake translation of literature from Ao to English

and vice versa for enrichment of language and culture.

(j) Alumni Cell to facilitate and keep alumni in touch with the College for the qualitative

and quantitative uplift of the College and students.

(k) Short term Certificate courses for Computer Applications and Mushroom Cultivation

(l) Extension services to enrich, uplift and promote wellbeing of members of society in

general

7. College Publications

Student Handbook contains the detailed Nagaland University Guidelines and

College Rules and Regulations which every student must read.

The Fazlian is a student-teacher collaborative College magazine and the FAC

Journal is an academic publication of the college, both brought out annually

VI. LIBRARY

The College has a well- equipped Library consisting of books, journals and reference

materials with reading room facility. The Library remains open from 9:00A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Students can borrow books from the library for a limited period of time. They are encouraged to

make optimum use of this facility and strictly adhere to the library rules and regulations. (Refer to

Students Handbook for more information)

Lesson plan is made available to students by each teacher. These are kept in the Library for

reference.

VII. DISCIPLINE

The College expects each student to observe the following rules.

1. A student must be punctual and regular in attending class.

2. A student whose attendance falls below 80% in any semester will be liable to discontinue

his/her study.

3. College properties must be handled with care. In case of damage caused by any student, the

concerned person is liable to pay for the damages.

4. Abusive behaviour or acts of indiscipline on the part of any student will not be tolerated and

appropriate action will be taken by the College Authority.

5. Smoking within the College or use of any intoxicating substances is strictly prohibited in

and around the College. Any student found to be under the influence of such substances is

liable to expulsion from the College without prior warning.

6. Use of mobile phone inside class room and indulging in gambling activities is strictly

prohibited and liable to punishment.

7. In all dealings with the college administration, faculty, staff and fellow students, a student

must extend due respect and regard, and conduct oneself with decorum.

8. Ragging is strictly prohibited. Any student indulging in such activities will be expelled

immediately.

VIII. ADMISSION

1. Admission to the College begins after the declaration of the HSSLC results. The Office will

notify the date of admission.

2. Application forms can be obtained from the College website

3. The Application forms will be submitted online and the following scanned documents will

be required for the admission process:

(a) Testimonial Certificate from the Head/ Principal of the Institute last attended

(b) Mark sheet(s) of previous examinations passed commencing from HSLC examination

(c) Admit Card(s) commencing from HSLC examination

(d) A recent photo of the applicant wearing light coloured shirt/top. Students with long hair

may neatly tie their hair back and the ears should be clearly visible in the photo

Photograph in school uniform will not be accepted

(e) Students awaiting result of the qualifying exam can also apply for admission

(f) Duly-completed application form accompanied by the necessary documents must be

uploaded/submitted on or before the last date as may be notified by the Principal

(g) Application form not supported by all the above mentioned documents will be rejected

(h) Original documents to be produced for verification as and when intimated by College

authority

4. Students from other Boards/Universities are required to produce Migration Certificate and

Eligibility Certificate within one month of taking provisional admission

5. Selection criteria: Admission to B.A/B.Sc. classes will be on the basis of the marks obtained

in the HSSLC examinations. However, if required, an entrance test may be conducted for

which information will be notified at the time of issuing of forms

6. Reservation of seats for BA and BSc:

a. Category 1 : Students with disabilities (PWD) = 3%

b. Category II : Backward Tribes of Nagaland = 3%

c. Category III : SC/OBC = 2%

d. Category IV : Boards other than NBSE = 4%

The facilities for PWD students are very limited in the College. Therefore this option will be

given after studying case-wise the nature of the disability

All claims should be supported by relevant documents

In case of non- availability of candidates from the reserved categories, seats will

be de-reserved and filled by others from non- reserved categories

IX. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO HONOURS COURSE

1. Eligibility for admission into BA/BSc Honours will require the student to have passed the

qualifying exam at the 10+2 level with a minimum of 45% marks

2. Students opting for Honours in those subjects not offered at Class 12 level should have

scored a minimum of 45% in the aggregate

3. Students from other streams (Science/Commerce) shifting to Arts stream may opt for

Honours provided they have secured 45% in the aggregate in the qualifying exam

4. Admission is generally on the basis of merit but a screening test may be conducted by the

concerned Department for admission to the Honours course

X. EXAMINATION SYSTEM

1. The performance of a student will be evaluated from 30 Marks for Internal Assessment and

70 Marks for End Semester Examination

30 marks internal assessment is conducted under two categories- 10 marks and 20

marks respectively. Under the 10 marks internal assessment category, the departments

conduct class test, assignment, seminar, and so on

The second category of internal assessment for 20 marks is conducted in the form of

uniform examination towards the end of the semester

2. A student will be deemed qualified to appear for the End Semester Examination only when

he/she secures minimum 45% marks in the internal assessment and maintains 80% class

attendance in every subject

3. A student will be liable to expulsion from the college for adopting unfair means of any sort

in any examination

4. Leave of any kind, including medical certificate will not be entertained for not sitting in any

examination

5. Any student representing the college in NCC, NSS activities or outstanding sportspersons

representing the District or State must have prior recommendation from the concerned

department through proper channel and approval of the Principal
