New Roads Catholic Community Saint Joseph - Saint Luke
Welcome! We’re so glad to have you with us here at New Roads. We are a community of two parishes, St. Joseph and St.
Luke, working together to help people encounter God and grow in their relationship with God. We believe that faith is a journey. No matter where you are on the journey, you are welcome to join us anytime at New Roads. We believe that true joy and fulfillment are found in knowing Christ, and we want to share that joy with everyone. This is a great time to come back,
or to keep coming back, to be a part of the incredible story God wants to write with our lives.

conversations about life students might not have
at school or on the field. Drive happens from
6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in St. Joseph parish hall.

Tiny Disciples
Tiny Disciples is a drop-off
worship experience for kids
ages 2-5 offered every week at
the 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph and the 11:30
a.m. Mass at St. Luke. Together with loving adult
and teen volunteers, kids sing and play and learn
that God loves them while their parents have the
opportunity to worship with the rest of the
community. If you have a child age 2-5, we hope to
see you soon at Tiny Disciples!
Questions, contact Grace Murphy,
In our message series, Tough Love, we're exploring
what love really looks like, not what love looks like
in our dreams or imaginations, but what love really
means and requires of us. We're working to
understand love not as something we feel, but as
something we do. Love is a verb, not a noun, and
that means we've got to take action. (If you missed
last week's message, you can watch it on our Web
site.)
Last week's challenge was to put our love into action
in some big or small way through doing good deeds.
What's your good deed from this week? What's
something you don't normally do, but will do out of a
commitment to grow in love during this series?
Maybe it's something for a friend or neighbor.
Maybe it's a good deed for the person you've
identified as your "tough to love" person. Visit our
blog to share your good deed and hear what others
are doing to spread light in our community!

February 12, 2017 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
New Roads Catholic Community Collaborative Books Group meets the fir st Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Joseph Parish Library. Please mark your calendars and get ready for some GREAT discussions! Read as much or a little as you like.
Here’s what we are reading for March 6: The Name of God is Mercy (Pope Francis). This is a short book recording Pope Francis’s conversation with Vatican reporter Andrea Tornielli, which the Holy Father explains, through memories from his youth and moving anecdotes from his experiences as a pastor, his reasons for proclaiming a Holy Year of Mercy, which ended on November 20, 2016.
April 3: The Seven Epistles of St. Ignatius of Antioch. Ignatius, the third Bishop of Antioch after St. Peter, was condemned by the Roman authorities as a Christian and sent to Rome to face martyrdom by being exposed to wild beasts in the Flavian amphitheater. On his way there he wrote (or dictated) seven letters, one to each of seven Church communities on or near his route from Antioch. In his letters, the Jewish understanding of martyrdom is sanctified by St. Ignatius, who saw his death as an imitation of the “Passion of my God” and begged the Roman Christians to do nothing to prevent it. His letters are available online and are published in a Penguin Classics’ collection entitled Early Christian Writings (ed. Andrew Louth). May 1: The Challenge of Jesus: Rediscovering Who Jesus Was and Is (N.T. Wright) Wright’s classic work approaches Scripture and the life and times of Jesus through the eyes of the Second Temple Period of Jewish Politics. This version of the life of Jesus is very political. Wright’s scholarly writings provide a fresh, provocative, and historically credible portrait of Jesus’s life. N.T. Wright is the former Bishop of Durham in the Church of England and one of the world’s leading Bible scholars.
All are welcome! Best blessings and happy reading!
