February 2, 2020 - FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD

Dear Families and Friends of St. Margaret Mary’s, The lack of patience is probably the number one sin confessed regularly by all of us. Patience con-sists in preserving one’s serenity of mind amid all the contradictions and difficulties of this life for the love of God.

Some persons are more patient than others and we admire them for it. Most of us, on the other hand, accept cheerfully only a part of our suffer-ings. The trials of life in which it really behooves us to maintain our peace of mind are: sickness and reverses, relapse into sin, and the pressure of the many duties our vocation in life entails. Sick-ness and reverses are not disasters—they are graces. God sends them to us for the good of our souls. We should welcome them. We must not be irritated with ourselves if because of human frail-ty we relapse into our old sins, and thus are forced to acknowledge our personal imperfection. We must have as much patience with our selves as with our fellow human beings. We must not lose our balance when our work is pressing and difficult. Loss of equanimity leads to hastiness which always does some harm. We should always try, through patience, not to yield to anger. Anger obscures our reason and makes us act unjustly. Nor should the tribulations of this life make us sad or depressed. There is indeed a sadness which is pleasing to God—sorrow for sin leading to amendment of life. It is, however, allowable to complain about severe physical or mental suffer-ings, so long as we do our best to submit to the will of God. Our Lord uttered complaints upon the cross; our heavenly Father frequently com-plained about sinners through the mouths of the prophets. But again, a balance must be observed; we must not lament over trifles, nor wallow in complaining so as not to give way to distrust of God. Complain to God as long and as loudly as you want, for your complaints are a call for help, and consequently are pleasing to Him. God is al-ways ready to hear you and console you to help you forget your sorrows.

Patience produces many virtues and leads to sal-vation. St. Teresa of Avila wrote that if we bear

lesser things patiently, we will acquire courage and strength to bear greater things. Patience is

the guardian of all the virtues, for there are al-ways obstacles in every good work, and they can only be overcome by patience.

If we would bear the trials of life with patience, like the martyrs and saints, meditate on the Pas-sion of Christ. Jesus drank of the bitter cup, in order to overcome our repugnance of it; He suf-fered first, so we might not fear following Him. After all, our sufferings cannot be compared with His, either in intensity or in number. But in Christ suffering is redemptive, for “through many tribulations we must enter into the king-dom of God” (Acts 14: 21). The truth of our Chris-tian life is—if we suffer willingly, we become more Christ-like, our purification is advanced and we gain merit for heaven. St. Paul (1 Cor 13) says that love “is first of all patient,” that is, pa-tience is the first characteristic of love. The exer-cise of patience is love put to the test.

Know the signs of denial Denial is a commonly used defense mecha-nism for abuse victims. Because they want to believe that things will go back to normal, vic-tims often feel trapped into just allowing the situation to play out. Fear of change can be overwhelming, especially if the victim has been manipulated by his or her abuser. Vic-tims may also struggle with accepting what’s happening because they know their abuser closely, as a family member or friend. It’s im-portant to recognize the signs of denial and how to break through those barriers that can keep a victim from true healing. Estimada Comunidad de Santa Margarita María

La falta de paciencia es probablemente el pecado número uno confesado regularmente por todos nosotros. La paciencia consiste en preservar la serenidad mental en medio de todas las contradicciones y dificultades de es-ta vida por el amor de Dios. Algunas personas son más pacientes que otras y las admiramos por ello. La mayoría de nosotros, por otro lado, aceptamos alegre-mente solo una parte de nuestros sufrimien-tos. Las pruebas de la vida en las que real-mente nos corresponde mantener nuestra paz mental son: enfermedad y reveses, recaída en el pecado y la presión de los muchos deberes que conlleva nuestra vocación en la vida. La enfermedad y los reveses no son desastres— son gracias. Dios nos los envía por el bien de nuestras almas. Deberíamos darles la bienve-nida. No debemos irritarnos con nosotros mismos si, debido a la fragilidad humana, re-caemos en nuestros viejos pecados y, por lo tanto, nos vemos obligados a reconocer nues-tra imperfección personal. Debemos tener tanta paciencia con nosotros mismos como con nuestros semejantes. No debemos perder el equilibrio cuando nuestro trabajo es apre-miante y difícil. La pérdida de ecuanimidad conduce a la precipitación que siempre hace algún daño. Siempre debemos tratar, con pa-ciencia, de no ceder ante la ira. La ira oscure-ce nuestra razón y nos hace actuar injusta-mente. Las tribulaciones de esta vida tampo-co deberían ponernos tristes o deprimidos. De hecho, hay una tristeza que agrada a Dios— pena por el pecado que conduce a la enmienda de la vida. Sin embargo, es permi-sible quejarse de sufrimientos físicos o men-tales severos, siempre que hagamos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para someternos a la voluntad de Dios. Nuestro Señor pronunció quejas en la cruz; Nuestro Padre celestial con frecuen-cia se quejaba de los pecadores por boca de los profetas. Pero nuevamente, se debe obser-var un equilibrio; No debemos lamentarnos por las pequeñeces, ni revolcarnos en las que-jas para no dar paso a la desconfianza de Dios. Quejarse ante Dios todo el tiempo y en

voz alta que desee, ya que sus quejas son un llamado de ayuda y, en consecuencia, le agra-dan. Dios siempre está listo para escucharte y consolarte para ayudarte a olvidar tus penas. La paciencia produce muchas virtudes y conduce a la salvación. Santa Teresa de Ávila escribió que si soportamos las cosas menores con paciencia, adquiriremos coraje y fortaleza para soportar cosas mayores. La paciencia es el guardián de todas las virtudes, ya que siempre hay obstáculos en todo buen trabajo, y solo se pueden superar con paciencia. Si soportáramos las pruebas de la vida con paciencia, como los mártires y los santos, me-dite en la Pasión de Cristo. Jesús bebió de la copa amarga, para vencer nuestra repugnan-cia de ella; El sufrió primero, por lo que no debemos temer seguirlo. Después de todo, nuestros sufrimientos no se pueden comparar con los Suyos, ni en intensidad ni en número. Pero en Cristo el sufrimiento es redentor, porque "a través de muchas tribulaciones debemos entrar en el reino de Dios" (Hechos 14: 21). La verdad de nuestra vida cristiana es— si sufrimos voluntariamente, nos volve-mos más como— Cristo, nuestra purificación avanza y ganamos mérito para el cielo. San Pablo (1 Cor 13) dice que el amor "es ante to-do paciente", es decir, la paciencia es la pri-mera característica del amor. El ejercicio de la paciencia es el amor puesto a prueba.

ORACION

Hoy, Señor, celebramos tu Presentación en el templo. Quiero aprender de María a guardar y

meditar tu Palabra en mi corazón. Ayúdame a ser dócil como Ella y hacer de Ti el centro de mi vida

Podemos Experimentar la ternura de Dios hacia los que se sienten ser menos en razón de su pobreza, falta de oportunidades, de necesaria instrucción para desen-volverse en el mundo. Pero si el mensaje del Señor es recibido con profunda fe, producirá una explosión es-piritual tal en nuestra vida que lo que antes considerá-bamos pobreza será ahora ganancia, la oscuridad se llenará de luz, la ansiedad dará paso a la confianza de nuestras almas en Dios. Y no pensemos que se trata de un opio para dormirnos con la esperanza del cielo, pues nunca hemos visto, como en estos últimos años, cristianos que entregan sus vidas para mejorar la dig-nidad del hombre, ya aquí en la tierra, como un reflejo anticipado de la justicia y el amor que reinará cuando lleguemos a Dios. Dios nos ofrece la Nueva Ley de su Reino, las biena-venturanzas, al comienzo del primer sermón de Jesús en San Mateo donde enumera a los ciudadanos del Reino; luego, al final del último sermón escatológico, nos dirá, en el juicio final, quiénes entran además en el Reino de los Cielos; los pobres y los que han sido ricos pero han sabido compartir y ponerse de parte de los pobres. La primera y la última bienaventuranza acaban del mismo modo: “Porque de ellos es el Reino de los Cie-los.” (Mateo, como buen judío, evita usar el nombre de Dios y por eso dice en vez Reino de los Cielos). Esa frase, repetida al principio y al final de las biena-venturanzas, nos indica que San Mateo está haciendo una inclusión literaria, de modo que los tipos de per-sonas que se mencionan al interior de la inclusión son los que pertenecen al Reino de Dios y a quienes les pertenece el Reino como derecho, pues ellos son los primeros ciudadanos del reino. La Bienaventuranzas expresan la opción de Dios por los pobres en el Nuevo Testamento. Según el pensa-miento judío, y como lo indicamos la semana pasada, más que el Reino hay que pensar en el reinado de Dios que ejerce su soberanía sobre los que lo escuchan y obedecen. Los pobres, los mansos, los limpios de co-razón, son los Anawim (Los anawim del Antiguo Tes-tamento eran los pobres de todo tipo: los vulnerables, los marginados y los oprimidos socioeconómicamen-te, los de bajo estatus sin poder terrenal. De hecho, dependían totalmente de Dios para lo que poseían). Los que ponen toda esperanza en Dios porque no en-cuentran apoyo ni justicia en la sociedad humana. Pobres de espíritu, en la traducción de la Nueva Biblia Española, son los que eligen ser pobres, los que hacen una opción efectiva contra el dinero y el rango social, poniéndose totalmente en manos de Dios; son los po-bres en su espíritu, por decisión voluntaria, porque

ven que la verdadera felicidad no está en las riquezas materiales sino en Dios. La pobreza de espíritu tiene que tener una dimensión de solidaridad y caridad hacia la pobreza real y mate-rial, hacia los hermanos pobres. Hay que estar de parte de los pobres, haciéndose solidario con sus causas y apoyándolos en sus aspiraciones. Sabemos bien por experiencia que, en proporción a la falta de fe en Dios y su plan de salvar al mundo por las bienaventuranzas, más nos aferramos a la tierra como morada permanente. Los testigos vivientes de las bienaventuranzas, en cambio, comenzando por Je-sús que las vive en plenitud, han perdido con resigna-ción a la voluntad de Dios algún bien terrenal para ser testigos de que por la paz en la justicia y el amor se puede hacer de la tierra una antesala de la morada per-manente, que es el cielo. Meditemos y pronto veremos que los pobres en el es-píritu, los sufridos, los que lloran, los que tienen ham-bre y sed de justicia, los hambrientos, los misericor-diosos, los limpios de corazón, los que trabajan por la paz, los perseguidos, los insultados y calumniados, están viviendo un despojo voluntario que los acerca más a Dios.

Reflexión

La iglesia es un edificio humano-divino en continuo proceso de perfeccionamiento, en lo que a nosotros toca. La subida a la montaña de las bienaventuranzas nos llevará toda la vida, porque para dejar que Dios entre cada vez más en nosotros, necesitaremos una conversión y en aumento continuo de intensidad. Pero no temamos. “Si Dios está con nosotros, ¿quién podrá estar contra nosotros?”

SALVAGUARDANDO A LOS

HIJOS DE DIOS

Conoce los signos de negación. La negación es un mecanismo de defensa comúnmente utilizado por las víctimas de abuso. Porque ellos quie-ren creer que las cosas volverán a la normalidad, las víctimas a menudo se sienten atrapadas en dejar que la situación se desarrolle. El miedo al cambio puede ser abrumador, especialmente si la víctima ha sido mani-pulada por su abusador. Las víctimas también pueden tener dificultades para aceptar lo que está sucediendo porque conocen de cer-ca a su abusador, como miembro de la familia o ami-go. Es importante reconocer los signos de negación y cómo romper esas barreras que pueden evitar que una víctima se cure de verdad. ¡Ven a Consagrar tu Unión Matrimonial ante Dios!

Programa de Convalidación de Preparación Matrimonial.

Este programa es para las parejas que están casadas por el civil o en unión libre

y que quieren prepararse para recibir el Sacramento del Matrimonio.

Este tipo de preparación es también beneficioso para ustedes.

Se invita a los jóvenes de secundaria (noveno a duodécimo) a unirse a otros jóvenes de todo el país para reunirse en canción, Alabanza y Adoración en nuestro "DÍA DE LA JUVEN-TUD" anual en Anaheim, CA. También parti-ciparemos en la liturgia presidida por el arzo-bispo José Gómez. Únete a nosotros en este día inspirador lleno de diversión. Costo: $ 40 (transporte y almuerzo incluidos) Se propor-cionarán cartas de justificación para la escue-la. Los espacios se llenan rápido. Pase por la Oficina de Formación de Fe para guardar su lugar y obtener más información. (Los candidatos de confirmación recibirán 10 horas de servicio).

In the Gospel of Ma hew, Jesus teaches us that he came not to abol-ish the laws of the prophets, but rather to take them one step further. He asks us to change what is in our hearts and our thoughts and to focus on God instead of ourselves.

With all the “distrac ons” in our world today – workaholism, TV, mov-ies, social media, gaming, the increasing pace of live and many others -- how do you pull yourself “out of the world” to change your heart and your thoughts to focus on God?

We invite you to share your experience with others and a end our Faith Sharing mee ng on Thursday, 13 February at 7pm in the Saint Margaret Mary Parish Center -- upstairs in Room D. We’ll reflect upon the readings for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time:
