Message from the Board

The President’s Message Greetings, Facilities Update We have added one new set-up table and two new start-up tables thanks to the generous provision of materials, tools and effort by Tom Pham and Mark Lukens. The tables were fabricated and partially assembled in their respective garages, and then transported to the field Sunday, January 26. On-site volunteer help with assembly and painting was provided by Don Drew, Darren Hauptman, Nick Palanza, Dave Uren and Leroy Brooks. Tom is organizing a follow up work party to replace the deteriorated tops on two additional set up tables. The start tables will also be refinished in early February. Thank you all for your generous donation of materials, time and effort. Environmentally Sensitive Resources Our field is located in close proximity to a Level I designated Environmentally Sensitive area, which requires that we be cognizant of the rules and regulations that govern activities that could negatively impact sensitive resource areas. The following link provides the MCAS Miramar strategy for conservation and management of sensitive resources: http://www.miramar-ems.marines.mil/Portals/60/Docs/MEMS/Nat_Res/INRMP%20Ch%205%20Management%20Areas.pdf

Membership Participation and Voice Broad based participation in club activities by the membership is a critical factor in ensuring our successful accomplishment of the club mission statement. Bylaws are the tools and the board of directors the mechanism by which the membership promote their common weal. There are communications technologies readily available to the club that will promote broader participation by the general membership in matters that are best served by having a larger audience than might be in attendance at regular meetings (this will also serve to preserve military member oversight and guidance.) To that end, the board will be testing web based survey tools that could support MRCF requirements.

If the membership response is positive, the board will formulate a proposal to move away from meeting based voting for club officer elections and by-laws changes, to the broader membership based e-voting process. Club operations and administrative motions would continue to be voted on at regular member meetings. Fred

Vice President’s Message

I hope this month’s newsletter finds everyone in good health and ready to enjoy a new year of modeling. Our event schedule is about the same as years past. With one addition the IMAC group will be back in August, as always for each event we will need the membership to step up and help. Areas of help are the gate will need to be maned during event hours, flight line marshals, for the IMAC and Pattern events score keepers and runners. This is just some of the help needed at the club, the open cockpit days at the base air museum will need your help with displaying of your model for five hours. This is an easy thing to do plus you get to walk around and enjoy the displays. So get that model completed so you can have as much enjoyment as possible at the club/hobby this year. For event help come see me at the club meetings or at the field to get an idea of how you can help this year. For this year we should get more involved with the base, something we did in the past was to do a display at the base education buildings, took model magazines to the transit terminal, library, we should look into what we can do for other base services also. As you can see the club has several areas that the membership can step up to lend a hand with. As always I Thank You for all your help.
