February 2016 Newsletter
Worth County Elementary School Principal – Dr. Steven Rouse
Assistant Principals – Ms. Marilyn Herring and Dr. April Smith
Dr. Steven Rouse, Principal
At WCES, we use the month of the February to give back
to Best Friends Humane Society through our Puppy Love
Food Drive. We encourage our students as well as the
faculty to donate food and other supplies that the animal
shelter needs to operate. We are also partnering with
Best Friends again this year to put on our annual Daddy
Daughter Dance which will take place February 20th. A
portion of the proceeds from the Daddy Daughter Dance
will be donated to Best Friends Humane Society. I hope
that you will join us this month in lending a helping hand to
Best Friends. I trust that you and your child are
continuing to have a great year at WCES. If you have and
questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to
contact me at [email protected]. Thank you for
your continued support!

Mr. Chad Pate, School Improvement Specialist
WCES will host a meeting on March 10, 2016 at
6:30p.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the
WCES Parent Compact and the WCES Parent Involvement
Policy. We would like to have input before the 2016 - 2017
school term. Please come out and share your thoughts and
opinions so that we can make WCES the best that it can
be!
Mrs. Amy Boyett, Parental Involvement Coordinator
Georgia Parent Survey: Please take a moment to complete
the Georgia Parent Survey. It contains 24 questions, and
parents are able to complete the survey using their
personal computers, smartphones or iPads. For parents
who do not have access to the Internet, we are looking at
scheduling a time to allow parents to complete the Georgia
Parent Survey at school. It is not mandatory for parents
to participate, but all parents are encouraged to complete
the Georgia Parent Survey. The data from this survey will
be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating.
Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted
directly to the Georgia Department of Education for
analysis. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will
not be available to the public and will not be posted online.
The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted
below.

Parent Input Needed
Parent input is needed and appreciated year round here at
WCES. A WCES Parent Input Form has been included on
the last page of this newsletter. Please let me know what
you think needs to improve in order for students to reach
their highest academic achievement. You may send the
input form back in your child’s agenda or drop it off at the
front desk. Please feel free to email me, Amy Boyett, at
[email protected] or telephone me at (229)776-
8605, or stop by to talk about concerns and ideas you may
have for WCES.
Mrs. Marilyn Herring, Assistant Principal
School Attendance is required for students to be academically
successful in school. Students who have excessive absences each
year find themselves behind in their classes and in danger of
grade retention. This also applies to excessive tardiness. When a
student is consistently late for school, they are missing
important instruction time. Excessive tardiness will result in
parents having to meet with a member of the WCES CAT team to
show cause of tardiness; a “BE ON TIME TO SCHOOL” contract
will be signed by the parent /guardian, and the student may also
be withheld from specials to make up any missed class time/
assignments. Subsequent Offenses: Referral to Social Worker, if
necessary. We are asking for your support by making every
effort to have your child in school every day and on time, except
when the child’s illness or a family emergency requires his/her
absence. Please review the School Attendance section of your
child’s school agenda for any questions you may have about policy
and procedures for student attendance, and the possible
consequences and penalties for failing to comply with Georgia’s
Compulsory Attendance Law.
