President’s Report

Dear Ashley Families,

I can't believe it is February already?!?!!? That almost seems impossible but before you know it we will be enjoying Spring Break and the countdown will be on for summer! The Ashley PTA has had a super successful year so far and we still have a lot left to plan, organize, and facilitate! At the end of this month we will be hosting our Multicultural Day during the student's CAMP time. We used this same format last year and the teachers and students really seemed to like it! By doing it during the day, it ensures that ALL students get the opportunity to learn about different cultures.

Our next General Membership meeting is coming up as well on February 25th at 6:00pm with the 2nd Grade program immediately following. This is an important meeting because we will be voting on our Bylaws and Standing Rules, budget amendments and electing a Nominating Committee for next year's PTA board positions. I HIGHLY encourage any of you that may be interested in serving on the board next year to reach to anyone on the current board and ask your questions!!!! We love new board members because they bring such great ideas to the table. It's easy to do as we've always done but the kids get so much out of new and fresh ideas!!!! So, please ask your questions and step up to help lead the PTA! There are many board positions so you can take on as little or as much as you'd like!

I also want to remind you all of the upcoming STAAR testing dates. On these dates NO VISITORS for ANY GRADE LEVEL are allowed on campus. Environmental Group Did you know you can easily recycle at Ashley Elementary? It's as easy as B.P.S.! Ashley recycles: Bottles/Batteries, Plastic Bags, and Shoes.

Did you know that some companies like Nike shred old tennis shoes and make them into sports fields and playground bases?

Recycle your tennis shoes at Ashley elementary. It's easy to do and will help the Earth stay healthy for generations to come!

Each month we will be giving you tips to help save our beautiful planet!

Programs Event "Media Madness" is a parent program that will be at Ashley February 11 at 6:30 pm. Did you know that kids on average are exposed to 7 hours of screen time a day and by age 12, three fourths of kids have a cell phone? Valentine Parties

Valentine's Parties for all grades will take place in the classrooms on Friday, February 12th, 1:40-2:40p. Room Parents have some fun crafts, games, & snacks planned for the students. Just a reminder that parents are welcome to attend, but all visitors must check in at the front office.

Hospitality Corner Over in the hospitality corner we are gearing up for another fun event. Friday February 19th we will host a warm Soup Buffet for our “SOUPER" Staff.If you have a favorite soup and want to help make this the best soup bar ever you can help out.Watch for an email regarding Volunteer Opportunities and how you can bring your soup to share with staff.

Multicultural Day Ashley PTA is busy planning our Multicultural Day for this year! It is scheduled for February 26th during each grade levels CAMP time. The countries we will be covering this year are: India, Canada, Brazil, Holland and Egypt. Look for emails with volunteer opportunities soon! We will need help gathering information, making display boards, setting up bulletin boards and running the tables on the day of the event!!! We hope all students at Ashley will walk away with new knowledge on many different countries and cultures! Lori Bettencourt
