Dear SJB Community,

This year, the children of St. John Berchmans School have embraced a kindness initiative throughout the entire campus from preschool through 8th grade. Each week students are presented with a kindness challenge to carry out. Some of these challenges have included holding the door open for a friend, greeting an adult by name, extra clean up after lunch, or smiling at a friend on the playground. Students who meet the challenge are praised by teachers and can earn a kindness sticker. Encouraging these small, daily acts of kindness in our school helps our students to show compassion at school and in the larger community.

Pope Francis tells us that education is a family matter. Parents and teachers must collaborate openly and constructively to form the core values in children which enable them to face modern challenges. As the parent of four children enrolled in St. John Berchmans School, I agree with Pope Francis’s message and see the fruits of his advice daily at our parish school. Parents, teachers and administrators are working together to offer our children the best education in a loving and welcoming environment. We are a community. We are a family. We are neighbors in Christ.

In recent years, more and more parishioner families are choosing to send their children to St. John Berchmans School. As Director of Admissions, I am thrilled and encouraged that parents are seeing the tremendous value of Catholic education. I truly believe the words of our unofficial motto: “Great things are happening at St. John Berchmans!”

Join us for fellowship and fun for this annual gathering hosted by our Pastoral Council. There will be fun activities for children!

All are Welcome at Saint John Berchmans!If you are new to our church or just visiting, please stop and introduce yourself. We are happy to have you share in today’s celebration of the Eucharist. EvElina CoronadoEvelina has been coming to SJB for over 10 years with her husband Jose Corral and her 13-year-old son, Miguel Corral, who is Confirmation student. She grew up in the neighborhood and has been inspired by her son to seek the sacraments of

Eucharist and Confirmation.

Evelina works in Merchandising. She attends trade shows and searches for vendors who carry products that their customers need. She loves to read. What Evelina has enjoyed most about the RCIA is learning the tenets of our faith and meeting the friendly people she’s met!

STATIONS OF THE CROSS/SOUP WITH SUBSTANCE

Bilingual Stations of the Cross will begin at 7pm each Friday during Lent (except March 22nd which will be Taizé Prayer Around the Cross, also beginning at 7pm). On April 12th, the Junior High will enact the Living Stations.

Soup with Substance will take place in the parish hall immediately following the stations. You’ll get to enjoy yummy soup and bread (for free!) as we listen to a guest speaker. Check out this year’s lineup:

LENTEN RECONCILIATION & TAIZÉ PRAYER SERVICE

Our bilingual Taizé Prayer/Reconciliation service will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 7pm. Lent is the perfect time to examine our consciences and receive the Sacrament of Penance in preparation to celebrate the joy of the Easter season. Join us in this service filled with song, prayer, and mercy. We will hold a second Taizé Prayer Service without Reconciliation on Friday, March 22nd at 7 p.m.

LENTEN SERVICE PROJECT - TOILETRY DRIVE

Small toiletries and hygienic items will be collected at all Masses during the weekend of March 16 and 17 and will be organized for distribution in the Soup with substance on Friday, April 12. All are welcome to help! Items received.

COLLECTING PALMS FOR ASHESThis weekend (Feb. 23 and 24) we will begin

collecting old palms so they can be made into ashes for Ash Wednesday (March 6). Please bring your old palms to Mass and leave them in the baskets in the

vestibule.

Estimada Comunidad de SJB,Este año, los niños de la Escuela San Juan Berchmans han adoptado una iniciativa bondadosa en todo el campus desde los grados preescolares hasta el 8º grado. Cada semana desafiamos a los estudiantes a llevar a cabo un acto de bondad. Algunos de estos desafíos incluyen mantener la puerta abierta para un amigo, saludar a un adulto por su nombre, limpiar más después del almuerzo o sonreírle a un amigo en el patio de recreo. Los estudiantes que superan el desafío son reconocidos por los maestros y pueden ganar una calcomanía de bondad. Cuando influimos estos pequeños actos diarios de bondad en nuestra escuela, ayudamos a nuestros estudiantes a demostrar compasión en la escuela y en la comunidad en general.

El Papa Francisco nos dice que la educación es un proyecto de familia. Los padres y maestros deben colaborar abierta y constructivamente para formar los valores fundamentales en los niños para que les permita enfrentar los desafíos modernos. Como madre de cuatro hijos inscritos en la Escuela San Juan Berchmans, estoy de acuerdo con el mensaje del Papa Francisco y veo los frutos de sus consejos diariamente en nuestra escuela parroquial. Los padres, maestros y administradores están trabajando juntos para ofrecer a nuestros hijos la mejor educación en un ambiente de amor y acogimiento. Somos una comunidad. Somos una familia. Somos vecinos en Cristo.

En los últimos años, cada vez más familias de feligreses eligen enviar a sus hijos a la Escuela San Juan Berchmans. Como Directora de Admisiones, me emociona y anima que los padres estén viendo el enorme valor de la educación católica. Realmente creo las palabras de nuestro lema oficial: “¡Grandes cosas están sucediendo en San Juan Berchmans!”

EvElina CoronadoEvelina ha estado viniendo a SJB por más de 10 años con su esposo José Corral y su hijo de 13 años, Miguel Corral, quien es estudiante de Confirmación. Ella creció en el vecindario y ha sido inspirada por

su hijo para recibir los sacramentos de la Eucaristía y la Confirmación.

Evelina trabaja en Merchandising. Ella asiste a ferias comerciales y busca proveedores que venden productos que sus clientes necesitan. Le encanta leer. ¡Lo que Evelina ha disfrutado más de RICA es aprendiendo los principios de nuestra fe y conociendo a las gratas personas!

VÍA CRUCIS/SOPA CON SUSTANCIA

El Vía Crucis bilingüe comenzará a las 7pm todos los viernes durante la Cuaresma (excepto el 22 de marzo, que será la Oración de Taizé, que también comenzará a las 7pm). El 12 de abril, la escuela SJB presentará el Vía Crucis viviente.

Sopa con sustancia se llevará a cabo en el Salón Parroquial inmediatamente después del Vía Crucis. Disfrutará de una deliciosa sopa y pan (¡gratis!) Mientras escuchamos a un orador invitado. Eche un vistazo al programa de este año:

SERVICIO CUARESMAL DE RECONCILIACIÓN Y ORACIÓN TAIZÉ

Nuestro servicio bilingüe de Oración Taizé/Reconciliación se llevará a cabo el martes 9 de abril a las 7pm. La Cuaresma es el tiempo perfecto para examinar nuestras conciencias y recibir el sacramento de la reconciliación en preparación para celebrar la alegría del tiempo de Pascua. Acompáñenos en este servicio lleno de cantos, oración y misericordia. Un segundo Servicio de Oración de Taizé sin reconciliación se llevará a cabo el viernes 22 de marzo a las 7 p.m.

PROYECTO DE SERVICIO DE CUARESMA – COLECTA DE PRODUCTOS HIGIÉNICOS

Los artículos higiénicos de tamaño pequeño y de muestra se recaudarán en todas las Misas durante el fin de semana del 16 y 17 de marzo y se organizarán para distribución en la Sopa con sustancia el viernes 12 de abril.

This weekend, our parish will be conducting the Annual Catholic Appeal in-pew Commitment Weekend. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign

where you can make a gift payable in installments.

The Annual Catholic Appeal theme, “Come, Follow Me…and Share the Word,” was selected to remind us to continue to answer Jesus’ call to follow Him in thought, word, and deed by providing the necessary contribution to fund ministries and services to share God’s love with many others in our

Parish and our Archdiocese.

Each pledge makes a difference! All parish communities participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our parishes, schools, and ministries to deliver needed services. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and

Este fin de semana, nuestra parroquia llevará a cabo desde las bancas de nuestro templo el denominado Fin de Semana de Compromiso de la Campaña Católica Anual. Por favor, recuerde que la Campaña Católica Anual es muy diferente de una colecta especial que ocurre una sola vez. Esta es una campaña de compromisos para donar, a través de la cual

usted puede hacer un donativo a pagar en plazos.

El tema de la Campaña Católica Anual, “Ven, sígueme... y comparte la Palabra” fue elegido para animarnos a responder al llamado que nos hace Jesús a seguirlo en pensamiento, palabra y acción. Nos recuerda que una manera de realizar dicho llamado es contribuir para financiar los ministerios y servicios que nos ayudan a compartir el amor de Dios con muchos otros en nuestra Parroquia y en nuestra

Arquidiócesis.

¡Cada compromiso hace una diferencia! Todas las comunidades parroquiales participan en la campaña y los donativos de muchos permiten que nuestras parroquias, escuelas y ministerios presten los servicios necesarios.
