The All Star game was a real pleasure…I love that our kids have the opportunity to experience so many activities in sports, arts and leadership. Sometimes it is the participation in those extracurricular sessions that provide the fertile ground for building self-esteem and courage. Students learn so much about the qualities that lead to success in academic classes, but it is the activities that allow our students to actually practice their own skills! Our staff was enriched by the sessions at the International Dyslexia Conference. It is such a treat to be able to learn about the latest research and hear from the most prominent voices in our field. This annual information fest is always hosted in February and I would love to see more TCS parental participation next year. We always experience a lot of activity at our school booth which is set up to introduce parents and professionals to our school mission and environment. There is no shortage of interest! Liz represented us at the GAPSEC (Georgia Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children) Fair at Perimeter Mall on Sunday. I was one of the founders of this group in the early eighties. At that time we had about four schools who served students with learning disabilities. Of course now the group is significantly larger with very diverse missions. Atlanta is truly an enriched educational community. We will welcome Cecil back into our midst this week. He has kept us posted on his progress and we are so thankful for his healthy and timely return. Although our exceptional staff has stepped in to cover his classes so the students continue to prosper, we will all be glad to have him back with us! On the other medical front, Phil has had the procedure that will return him to health, as well. We are staying in touch on a daily basis, sending cards and prayers his way. Until he is released from isolation, he cannot receive visitors, flowers, etc. but we will keep you posted. In case you have not heard, his room overlooks the Emory University track and field! He is thrilled to be able to look outside and see the activity that he loves! Several of our Interact Club members attended the regional Interact Conference on Saturday and represented TCS very well! In fact, they took the award for Best Scrapbook! It is great to see them interact with other students from schools all over the region. Of course most of the clubs are from mammoth schools with lots of members and resources. However, we always stand out! Our projects, enthusiasm and creativity are noted every time we attend! That is more testimony to the “small but mighty” reputation TCS has garnered over the years. They will be recognized at this week’s Roswell Rotary meeting when the Secretary of Education, John Barge is the speaker! We are gearing up for summer and have increased interest in our middle and high school programs. Our summer brochure is available for you to peruse, and information is on the web….share with friends and family! Now is the time to plan the structure that will support your teen during the summer. Do not fall for the “I’m tired and all I want to do is rest” gag. They do not need to stagnate for several months before they return to us. Kids need to stay engaged and involved in order to continue the forward movement they establish during the school year. Talk with your counselor or HR teacher for ideas if you do not already have a plan.

NEW STUDENT TEACHERS

Please welcome our new student teachers in the middle school and high school. Brandi Huntley is a graduate of Georgia State University with a BA in Political Science. She is currently enrolled at Grand Canyon University, completing the Master’s Program in Secondary Education. She is excited about her student teaching placement at TCS and is looking forward to gaining valuable experience and learning more from her middle school mentor teacher, Lauren. Brandi is currently an after school teacher and coordinator working with students ranging from age 5 - 12 years. On the weekends, she enjoys shopping, reading, and finding new extreme adventures for an adrenaline rush. Adam Latimer will be student teaching at the high school until the beginning of May. He attends the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio and will graduate in May with a Bachelor’s degree as an Intervention Specialist for grades K-12. In his spare time, Adam enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He looks forward to working with the students and staff of The Cottage School.

ADHD College Scholarship Program (US)

Sponsored by Shire US Inc.

The Shire 2012 ADHD Scholarship Program is currently being offered for students who

are accepted to or enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited two-year or four-year

college, university, accredited trade, technical or vocational school or other “eligible educational

institution,” are legal U.S. residents, and, at the time of submitting the application, are diagnosed

with ADHD and are under the care of a licensed health care provider for ADHD. Recipients of

the Shire ADHD Scholarship will receive a $2,000 college scholarship along with one year of

ADHD Coaching Services from the Edge Foundation (valued at over $4,000!).

Applicants will be judged based on the various components of their application as follows:

Personal Essay – 50% Letter of Recommendation – 20%

Edge Foundation Question – 15%

Community, Volunteer and Extra Curricular Activities – 15%

The essay (which is HALF of the basis for awarding these scholarships!) should focus on

“explaining how ADHD has impacted their [applicant's] lives.”

Applications can be sent in online or mailed in; either way, they must be sent in (if online) or

postmarked (if mailed in) by March 30, 2012 at the latest. The print or online application can

Roswell Woman’s Club

Scholarship 2012 Every year several of our students are awarded these scholarships

The purpose of the Roswell Woman’s Club Scholarship is to recognize and reward outstanding graduating

seniors and to assist them in pursuing their educational objectives.

The scholarship award amount varies depending on the proceeds of our fund raiser. In 2010 the Scholarship was

$1700 and in 2011 it was $1875.

Eligibility Criteria Applicant must:

• Either reside in, or go to school in, Fulton County north of the Chattahoochee River.

• Be a US citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident.

• Be a graduating senior in a public or private secondary school or a senior who is being home schooled.

• Be preparing to attend college, university, vocational, or technical school full time in the year of the

submitted application.

• Submit application and supporting documents by the publicized deadline.

• Not be a child or grandchild of a RWC member.

• Be chosen irrespective of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. The scholarship is open to both

boys and girls.

• Not be a recipient of another scholarship offering full financial support, i.e.: an appointment to a Service

Academy/Presidential Scholar.

• Participate as a volunteer in a RWC project. Applicants are asked to serve at least one shift at the

Roswell Woman’s Club Showcase Home Tour which will take place in late April. You may learn more

about signing up for this project at www.roswellwomansclub.org . You will be able to sign up for a shift

beginning March 1. Click on the volunteer tab and follow the directions. If, for some reason, you are

unable to cover the shift you originally signed up for call the Staffing Coordinator to be assigned a new

shift. If no additional shifts are available call Albie to arrange for an alternate three (3) hour community
