Evaluation – Part 2 In this section of the work I will be evaluating the finished product on the feedback which I have been given by my target audience, my client and my own feedback which I have given. I will be looking at and evaluating the appeal to audience, the USP (Unique Selling , the conventions, the use of technology and any improvements as a Point)/Place In Market whole. Appeal To Audience Audience: My audience had said that my documentary had appealed to my target audience because; I had used different ethnicities in my vox pops which would appeal to both males and females as well. My audience feedback had also said, I should have had a female interviewee as that would have helped it appeal to more of the female genders as well rather than just having male interviewee’s throughout my whole documentary. My audience had also said my documentary would appeal to “people who listen to music” as they would like this as Bhangra is a type of music genre. Client/Teachers: My client and teachers had said there is real appeal to my target audience, and I have taken something which they do not know much about and I have made it interesting and appealing to the younger side of my target audience. They had also said I have included bits on the music, how you would make the music, and the dancing. I have used the content well and appealed to the target audience. Own Feedback: I feel that my documentary appealed to my target audience because, I had used good interviewees who explained the questions which I (the presenter) had asked them, by that it is informing and educating my target audience. My documentary also appealed to my target audience because of the vox pops which I included by that I mean the vox pops were teenagers and most of them had heard about Bhangra or knew what Bhangra was.

Evaluation – Part 2

In this section of the work I will be evaluating the finished product on the feedback which I

have been given by my target audience, my client and my own feedback which I have given.

I will be looking at and evaluating the appeal to audience, the USP (Unique Selling

, the conventions, the use of technology and any improvements as a Point)/Place In Market

whole.

Appeal To Audience

Audience:

My audience had said that my documentary had appealed to my target audience because; I

had used different ethnicities in my vox pops which would appeal to both males and

females as well. My audience feedback had also said, I should have had a female

interviewee as that would have helped it appeal to more of the female genders as well

rather than just having male interviewee’s throughout my whole documentary.

My audience had also said my documentary would appeal to “people who listen to music”

as they would like this as Bhangra is a type of music genre.

Client/Teachers:

My client and teachers had said there is real appeal to my target audience, and I have taken

something which they do not know much about and I have made it interesting and

appealing to the younger side of my target audience. They had also said I have included bits

on the music, how you would make the music, and the dancing. I have used the content well

and appealed to the target audience.

Own Feedback:

I feel that my documentary appealed to my target audience because, I had used good

interviewees who explained the questions which I (the presenter) had asked them, by that it

is informing and educating my target audience. My documentary also appealed to my target

audience because of the vox pops which I included by that I mean the vox pops were

teenagers and most of them had heard about Bhangra or knew what Bhangra was.

USP (Unique Selling Point)

Audience:

My audience had said the unique selling point of my documentary is that there aren’t many

documentaries on Bhangra, “it is a new kind of music” and they had also had that people

know what Bhangra is but they don’t know much about it so this would be a unique selling

point of my documentary.

Client/Teachers:

My client and teachers had said my documentary does have a USP (unique selling point) and

the unique selling point is that my topic is something that is not discussed as much. One of

my clients had said this “If you think about Bhangra or Indian music it is discussed in terms

of Bollywood films” I had not gone into Bollywood and I had used specific information and

made it more interesting. My client had also said that my documentary has a one show type

of style and that my role was key in this documentary.

Own Feedback:

I felt that the unique selling point (USP) of my documentary was that there are not many

documentaries about Bhangra as I have done thorough research and I could not find many.

This helped me a lot because, I had chosen good and key angles for my documentary which

were, the history of Bhangra, the music production and the Bhangra dance. I chose these

angles because, I felt these would appeal and attract my audience’s attention the most and

would make my documentary look better.

Place In Market:

Audience:

My audience had said that the place in market for my documentary would be because, my

topic is different it would stand out more to my target audience and there is not much like

my topic. They had also that my documentary informs, educates and entertains my target

audience.

Client/Teachers:

My client and teachers had said that my documentary was not like others, and once again

my role was key in this documentary which had made it stand out and I was enthusiastic

about my role and I got “stuck in” and enjoyed the role which I had and that was important

to have in a documentary.

Page 3: Feedback Evaluation

Own Feedback:

I felt that there is definitely a place in the market for my documentary, as it is not a

documentary you would see everyday as I have chosen a unique topic. Also, I have chosen a

topic that not many people would know about. Another reason on why my documentary

will have a place in the market is that, it informs, educates and entertains my target

audience which is what I was aiming to do at the beginning of the unit and which I have

successfully completed.

The Conventions

Audience:

My audience had said that I had used conventions such as the titles for interviewee’s but

they could have been designed better and they had also said that I had used different

colours but they should have been the same.

They had also said that I had a sign on at the beginning of my documentary and I also had a

sign off on my documentary which was good. They had also liked the demonstration of the

Bhangra dance with Robert who did not know the Bhangra dance.

They had said that I did not use and photo montage’s but if I had done it would have been

very effective. They had also that I had cutaways in my documentary but I did not use a lot

of cutaways and they were not on the screen for long which they should have been.

Client/Teachers:

My client and teachers had said that I had used good conventions in my documentary. They

had also said that I had interviews with people who were quite “…prestigious within that

world” and I had got “exclusive access” which had “worked well” in my documentary.

One of my client/teachers had said that I had taken something which is quite a niche area of

music and brought it to his attention and he had enjoyed watching my documentary and

that “the culture had come through”

They had also that that my camera shots and the voice overs which I had used were good

and once again my “enthusiasm” was good once again.

Own Feedback:

I felt that I had used a wide range of conventions in my documentary which helped my

documentary become a good documentary overall. One example is that, I had used graphics

well because, I had them appear on the screen when I was interviewing somebody new so

my target audience knew who they were and what role they had in my documentary. Also, I

had used graphics when the dance instructors were explaining the dance moves as I had the

Punjabi translation and the English translation next to it.

The Use of Technology

Audience:

My audience had said that I had used graphics but I did not use many. They said this could

have been improved by at the beginning by having graphics appear on the screen when the

history of Bhangra segment was on.

They had also said that I needed more transitions throughout my documentary because; I

did not use many transitions in my documentary. My audience had also said that the music

in my documentary was good and that it flowed with the pace of my documentary very well.

They had said, I could have used a variety of shots and different camera angles as I did not

experiment as much as I should have.

Client/Teachers:

My client and teachers had said that the content which was included in my documentary

was good and that could not have been improved on. However, the tightness of my editing

could have been improved on but the main issue is the sound on my documentary which

they could not hear the interviewee’s speaking because; the background music was too

loud.

One of my client/teachers had said they had liked when I had a translation appear of what

the dance moves were called as that was informing and educating them at the same time

and it was “something you would expect to see in a professional documentary”.

Own Feedback:

I had felt that I had used technology well throughout this whole project in creating my

documentary. By this I mean that, I had used different equipment in order to create my

documentary from DV camera’s to an editing software. I had tried different things out when

I was using the editing software, by that I had added in cutaways in places where you would

not normally see cutaways and I had not used much archive footage as I wanted to limit that

to as minimal as possible.

Improvements

Audience:

The improvements which my audience gave me are;

My sound levels could have been improved during my interview’s

I should of added more cutaways during my interview’s

The graphics could have stayed for longer

More editing could have been done to cut my documentary down

I should not have used vox pops at the beginning of my documentary but should of

just went straight into my sign on in my documentary

The colours for my title of my documentary did not match, so that could have been

changed

I should have used different shots and angles in my documentary

Client:

The improvements which my clients/teachers had given me are;

The tightness of my editing

The sound levels could have been improved.

Own Feedback:

I would say that the major improvement that could have been made was that my sound

could have been lowered in certain places such as during the first interview with the

Bhangra legend Channi Singh as the background music was too high and you could not hear

my interviewee speak due to the background music.

Other than changing my sound levels, I would not make any other improvements to my

documentary as I felt everything else such as the shot types, shot angles, and the graphics

which were used were to the best of my ability and I would not change that.
