Description of Product
This is an assessment of fermacell® gypsum
fibreboards applied one layer each side for use
in non-habitable roof spaces for use in single
skin Spandrel Panels. The system achieves 60
minutes fire resistance and can be used to
assist in sound separation between dwellings.
fermacell is formed using recycled gypsum
from coal fired power stations and recycled
paper.
The system comprises a 15mm thick
fermacell® gypsum fireboard fixed with both
sides of timber frame manufactured by others
having 70 x 44mm minimum timber size.

Validity
This certificate was first issued on 12th September 2019 and is valid until 12th September 2020
Issue Dated 12th September 2019
Certificate No: EWW1183
Fixing
Phosphate coated fermacell 3.9 x 40mm fermacell™ screws at 250mm centres.
Alternatively 48 x 10 x 1.5mm galvanised staples can be used for fixing at 200mm centres.
If 89 x 38mm timbers are used an 18mm board is required, fixing details are to be obtained from the fermacell technical
department.
fermacell board must be fixed to the small face of timber only. If nail plates are used on timber frame they must be a
minimum 1mm thick with minimum 8mm long nails fixed to each face of the timbers and CE marked to EN 14545:2008.
Joints
Standard sheeting joints are tight dry-butt joint. Gaps require fire mastic or 150mm cover strip of fermacell with 55mm
fermacell™ screws into each timber at 250mm centres and 55mm long skew fixings to connect panels (see fermacell
brochure for details.)
Fire resistance
The spandrel panel in effect forms a barrier in the concealed space which is non-loadbearing but will provide resistance to
penetration (integrity) and resistance to transfer of excessive heat (insulation) for a period of 62 minutes proven in test to BS
476: Part 22:1987 which exceeds the recommended 60 minutes in table A2 of Approved Document B.
Sound
fermacell® gypsum fireboard can be used with Robust Details Walls to conform to AD E. Panels are now part of Appendix A
in Robust Details as an accepted solution. The supporting blockwork should extend 300mm minimum above finished ceiling
level with the cavity wall closed with a proprietary cavity stop. The junction between the spandrel panel and supporting
blockwork is to be sealed with flexible or acoustic sealant or mounted on a layer of mineral wool.
Installation to be in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, guides and recommendations.
