• Projects involving member countries– Belgium

• By the end of August 2014, Belgium already peaked at 50 fire deaths and 27 severely burned citizens at home.• Due this poor result, the yearly two weeks of fire safety focussed on the issue:

"Don't challenge fire - every minute counts"• A website: "www.speelnietmetvuur.be" was released with various topics on fire

and carbon monoxide risk at home. Through the website fire services and of course citizens could download flyers, docs and instructions to make the daily life at home more safe.

• Policy Declaration• The Flemish government stated in her policy declaration 2014-2019 that the years

to come special action shall be taken to improve fire safety in youth residences such as juvenile institutions, camp infrastructure, youth hostels, youth clubs,.....

• Smoke Alarm Day • Monday December 1st is Smoke Alarm Day in all Nordic countries. The aim of this

annual awareness day is to encourage discussion on fire safety issues and to motivate people to take personal responsibility for their own fire safety.

• DIY fire drill • All workplaces, schools, educational institudes, day care centres, housing

companies and families are invited to organise fire drills in November or December. After enrolment organisation sends an email with instructions on how to organise a fire drill.

• A day at the fire station • A Day at the Fire Station is a family event that kicks off National Fire Safety Week.

People are invited to come and learn fire safety skills by doing fun hands-on exercises, while getting to know how your local fire brigade works. This event takes place at fire stations throughout Finland.

• Other contemporary safety campaigns are:• Sinä teet suojatien ("Pedestrian crossing constitutes of you"): A reminder

campaign for drivers to respect pedestrian crossing. Campaign is organised by the Finnish Road Safety Council  

• Eläköön! ("Long live.!"): A general road safety campaign about not drinking and driving, respecting pedestrian crossings, using safety belts and watching out for elks and other animals. Campaign is organised by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency

• Mustavyö ("Black belt"): A campaign about importance of seat belts in cars. Campaign is organised by the Finnish Road Safety Council

• German chief fire officers association discussed several issues regarding fire prevention i.e. insulation of buildings, • results can be found on their website (www.agbf.de).

• Smoke detectors for existing buildings are mandatory by the end of:• 2014 in 6 states, • 2015 in 3 states, • 2016 in 1 state, • 2017 in 1 state, • 2018 in 1 state, • 4 states have no specific rules yet.

• German chief fire officers association defined new demands on building inspections.

safety awareness both in the field of education, involving the Education Ministry, and in the worker's world, mainly focusing the growing number of foreign workers.

• Legislation and Training– With regard to the current legislation, the Italian National Fire Corp is involved in a

various activities related to the fire safety with a mandatory effect on workers training on fire safety.

– In fact the Italian National Fire Corp provide to the training and to the final examination of workers trained as internal fire safety team from the first EU work safety directive.

– On the other hand the activity of training of the fire engineers and fire technicians operating in the field of fire prevention and fire risk analysis started in 1984.
