Fiberglass doors from Kolbe are available with standard Kolbe options, offering the same aesthetics and functionality of other Kolbe products. Full-length StilesOur 4" full-length hinge & lock stiles have a 1/2" maple or fir cap. The square edge design gives a true wood door appearance.

Composite Top & Bottom RailsHigh-strength engineered composite top and bottom rails prevent moisture from seeping into the door.

Performance Divided LitesDeluxe textured fiberglass doors may be ordered with performance divided lite bars (PDL), which mimic the appearance of true divided lites. The PDL system uses a single insulating glass unit, rather than smaller, individual units to create a “lite pattern.”

For Deluxe panels, 1" wide bars with an ovolo-type appearance are adhered to the interior and exterior of the insulating glass unit. Plus, bars are held within the insulating glass unit, which adds to the illusion of traditional, true divided lites. The exterior and interior bars are factory finished to match the door panel.

Won’t Crack, Rot, Split or WarpOur high-impact compression molded skins will not splinter, warp or rot. Our deep-profile fiberglass skins create stronger dimensions and crisper shadow lines. Architecturally correct stile and rail proportions enhance the door’s traditional appearance.

Craftsman Fir doors feature the fine vertical graining characteristic of Douglas Fir, which emphasizes the architecturally correct proportions of our fiberglass entry doors. The glass used in the Craftsman Fir panels is ‘direct-glazed’ into the panel, meaning they are not held in place with a saddle. The direct-glazed process leaves a cleaner, simpler look to the panel.

Textured panels are available in Oak grain, either unfinished, factory-stained, or factory-painted with K-Kron II, a high performance exterior coating. Divided Lite OptionsGrilles-in-the-AirspaceGrilles-in-the-airspace are constructed with aluminum bars sealed between two panes of insulating glass, offering the look of divided panes while reducing cleaning time. For units with insulating glass, contoured, 3/4" wide bars are standard in White, Beige, Sand, Rustic, Hartford Green and Chutney. Optional colors are light wood and dark wood faux finishes. Flat, 5/8" wide grille bars are also available in White, Beige, Sand, Rustic, Hartford Green, Chutney, light wood and dark wood faux finishes and Brass. Two-tone contour or flat grilles are available with either light or dark wood faux finishes to the interior and White to the exterior. Also available are 5/16" wide brass or pewter “pencil” bars.

Kolbe’s performance divided lite (PDL) glazing system gives the appearance of true divided lites without sacrificing energy efficiency. Bars are adhered to the exterior and interior of the single lite of insulating glass*, with aesthetically-pleasing spacer bars within the insulating glass unit. PDL are available in 5/8", 7/8", 1-1/8", 1-3/4", 2-1/4" or 4-1/2" bar widths. PDL bars used on Standard textured panels will be Oak wood species on the interior and exterior. PDL bars used on Standard smooth panels will be primed or painted to match the interior or exterior of the door panel. Standard doors with the PDL option will have a wood saddle using the same species and/or finish guidelines as above. Variations on the PDL option may include custom divided lite patterns, bar widths, or no spacer bars.

Frame Options

Extruded Aluminum Clad Frame (Ultra Series)The extruded aluminum clad frame can be used with any fiberglass door. As standard, the frame is finished with a 70% PVDF fluoropolymer finish offered in our extensive color selection. Accessory grooves are integral to the frame for the easy addition of extruded casings. Several optional casings are available.

Wood Frame (Heritage Series)The wood frame can be used with any fiberglass door. As standard, the frame is latex primed. It can be finished with an optional high-performance primer, our K-Kron II high performance finish, or can be left unfinished for painting or staining in the field. It comes standard with 1-15/16" brickmould. Other casings are available.

Textured Panel Stain OptionsFiberglass door panels are properly prepped to insure the surface is ready for stain application. The specially-formulated stain is applied by hand and through a wiping off process or “toning”, which allows the grain pattern to emerge and be enhanced. The panel then receives a clear coat to protect the stain, and is oven cured for a hard, durable finish.

There is a “color range” with anodized colors. That is, there is an acceptable “light” to “dark” color range that can be experienced on any job. According to AAMA 611-98 specifications, Section 8.3, the range may be up to 5 Delta E’s. We can provide from our anodized vendor color samples of this color range if requested. The color range is due to numerous variables which include (but are not limited to) the shape of the parts, alloy variations and time in the anodizing process. This could mean that a sash part may appear slightly different in color than a frame part. This is/will be acceptable. Even the samples that may be provided may vary from the final product due to the variables. You must be aware of this as this will be considered acceptable. Mica and anodized finishes are for the Ultra Series frame and not for the fiberglass door panel

Glass OptionsGlassKolbe offers glazing options to capture optimum energy efficiency for the geographic region in which you live. As standard, we use double strength tempered glass in most units, with double-pane insulating LoE2-270 glass. LoE is a “smart” coating that reduces energy transfer through the insulating glass unit. LoE coated glass is also designed to reflect room-side heat back into the room during winter months. In summer, visible sunlight is allowed in while blocking 96% of the sun’s infrared heat energy. The result is significant savings on heating and cooling costs throughout the year. LoE coatings also reduce the potential for condensation, as well as provide protection against fading of furniture, fabrics and carpeting. Along with LoE coatings, standard glass is filled with argon gas*, which has a 30% lower thermal conductivity than that of air.Kolbe offers the following glass options, as well as many specialized options.

NOTE: *Argon gas may not be included with units to be installed in or shipped through high altitude areas.
