Typical Core diameter / Outer diameter: Used e.g. for:
9/125 μm Singlemode (Qualityclass OS1)
50 / 125 μm Multimode – Europa (Qualityclass OM2)
62,5 / 125 μm Multimode – USA (Qualityclass OM1)
100 / 140 μm other

850 nm (near infrarot range) in Multimode
1310nm / 1550 nm in Singlemode
Typical wave length:
Duplex transmission:Two way communication (2 cores)
Multimode / Singlemode transmission:
Singlemode (used for telecommunication):
- Very high distances possible (5km up to 100km)
- lower bandwidth
Singlemode
Simplex / Duplex and wave length
Simplex transmission (Half-Duplex) :One way communication (1 core)
Multimode
Multimode :
- very high bandwidth (up to 10 Gigabit/sek.)
- lower distance (up to 2km...4km)

Fibre optic plug systems:
3. SC-Plug (4-square form with fast plug catch)
4. LC-Plug (4-square form, extremly compact, Plug of the future
5. E2000-Patchcabel
1. ST-Plug (Runde form with bayonet catch ) 2. MTRJ-Plug (AMP-plug)
A.Klepper – 01/04/11 Rev.A 7
Basic informtions about fibre optic technology
Fibre-optic cable versus copper cable
Advantage :
- Very high bandwidth
- High distances possible (up to 100 km)
- Very good transmission quality
- Undisturbed against lightnings, high currents
and voltage potential difference
- No cross talk, like copper applications
- Safety against explosion and fire (chemical industry)
- Safety against weathering
- Less weight
Disadvantage :
-Extrem sensible against pressure and drawing power
-Expensive in comparision with standard copper cable
(CAT 5)
- High bending radius !, easy breaking !!
A.Klepper – 01/04/11 Rev.A 8
Fibre Optic Media Converter to LAN (TCP/IP) :
