ST. PETER PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We, the believers of St. Peter Parish, having our beginnings as the earliest Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the Northshore, in response to God's call, come together:
to love God and one another to worship as a faith community to be God's hands, heart and mind and to provide for our community's spiritual and
physical needs
In doing this, we glorify God and help realize His reign on earth. While rejoicing in the experience of our pilgrimage, we must ever keep in mind our ultimate destination through our faithful stewardship of time, talent and treasure. Called to be a prayerful and hospitable Catholic family of living faith, we welcome and invite all people to share in our unique gifts of the Holy Spirit.

FAITH FACT Should Christians look to non-Christian
methods of meditation to draw closer to God?
“[A]ll the aspirations which the prayer of other religions expresses are fulfilled in the reality of Christianity beyond all measure.” ~Orationis Formas, no. 15
What are the popular non-Christian methods of medi-tation today? Can the Church’s tradition meet the spiritual needs of those looking to non-Christian meth-ods? This week’s Faith Fact explores the origins of Yoga, Zen, and Tai Chi and discusses whether these methods should be used in authentic Catholic spiritu-ality. Copies are available in the back of church and on our parish website.

Summer Mission Appeal July 13th & 14th
We welcome Fr. Evod Shao, C.S.Sp. from the Diocese of Zanzibar to speak for our Summer Mission Appeal. As a small Christian community, mainly engaged in mission dialogue with the majority Muslim brethren, their daily apostolate is empowerment of women, children and youth. In partnership with the worldwide Catholics they try to establish Kindergartens and strengthen the small Christian communities in their 56 mission stations. Your prayers and monetary contributions will help to educate lay catechists, will help in the formation of seminarians, will help to maintain the invited religious missionaries and to aid in the construction of Parishes and mission station chapels. Your consideration is appreciated.
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 14th:
In today’s Gospel, when Jesus asks “which of these three in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” the scholar of the law answered, “the one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus then said, “Go and do likewise.” This week you can also “treat the poor with mercy” by putting a gift in the St. Vincent De Paul poor box.
Black and Indian Mission Collection July 20th & 21st
Next weekend our parish will take up the 135th annual National Black and Indian Mission Collection. Our support of this collection helps build the Church in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities from coast to coast. Schools, parish religious education programs, and diocesan ministries depend on your generosity to help tehem spread the gospel of Jesus Christ! Your consideration is appreciated.

ALERT St. Tammany is an essential public safety service provided to you by St. Tammany Parish government, in-forming you of dangerous weather notices, evacuation or-ders, and security or health issues -- emergency messages pertinent to the City of Covington and St. Tammany Parish sent direct to your phone. By accessing the Self-Registration Page at www.stpgov.org, you can input your information through a simple two-step process.
This process allows you to enter multiple contact numbers, so in the event that you are away from your home phone or if you only have a cell phone, you can still be reached by our alert system on your mobile phone. This is extremely important, especially considering the on-the-go lifestyles many of us lead today.
Register today for life saving alerts. Public safety issues can happen at any time—night or day. If anyone you know does not have internet access, urge them to visit any local library branch to register through one of their public computers.
