From Friday, July 31, through Sunday, August 2, event participants will “twist and shout” their way from drag races down Winnemucca’s Trader’s Way to parties at local casinos, car shows, cash giveaways, doo-wop entertainment and dancing in poodle skirts. The Fever will get hotter and hotter until Sunday when the annual Show ‘N’ Shine will surround the Winnemucca Convention Center along with some seri- ous “shake, rattle and roll” on the Nixon Lawn. From a free outdoor concert with “Rockin’ Down the Hiway” to awards and giveaways, the afternoon will lead up to a perfect finish as all those hot wheels take part in the Fifties Fever Cruise. As part of the three-day event, organizers have opened up a Poker Run Saturday for Fifties Fever partic- ipants as well as the general public. The Poker Run will begin at 11 a.m. at the Pig BBQ & Pub, located at 1139 W. Winnemucca Boulevard, and continue until 4 p.m. Participants will receive one hand in their registration bags; extra hands will be available at the Pig BBQ & Pub. Additionally, participants will make four more manda- tory stops including Global Coffee, Chihuahua’s Restau- rant, Pete’s Gambling Hall, and Advance Auto Parts. Poker hands must be turned into the Model T Resort Casino between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the D.J. Booth on the East Side of the C-Store; $600 in cash prizes will be awarded at 4:15 p.m. The day’s best hand will receive $400 cash, and second best hand will receive $150. A random drawing of all hands will take place as well for $50. A bounty of small prizes also will be up for grabs, so participants are encouraged to turn in their hands, no matter how bad they might seem! WINNEMUCCA, Nev. — Local residents are invited to get in on this year’s fun as the “Fifties Fever” classic car fest returns to town.
