The nature of the game is for all of us to compete for opportunities. But while we all have different business plans, we all want to achieve the same successful outcome. Economists Forecast End of Housing CorrectionContinued from page 56

housing starts will drop by 11 percent from 2006 to 2007, butrebound by 5.2 percent in 2008. A decline of 12.2 percent forsingle family housing starts is expected in 2007 (about 1.4million), with multi-family housing starts dropping by six per-cent (about 300,000).

Witten’s combined single and multi-family forecast puts totalstarts at 1.5 million in 2007. He thinks the multi-family con-struction picture will improve slightly in 2008. Duobinis saysfor most of the forecast period through the end of 2008, themulti-family housing market will continue at a pace almostequal to that achieved during Q3 of 2006 (about 350,000).

A dramatic rise in the share of this market that is condomini-ums has helped (and will continue to help) this market tomaintain production levels.

Conclusion: “Soft Landing” ProjectedTired of hearing about an alleged “soft landing” for the hous-ing industry? Get used to it. Seiders has been very surprisedhow quickly the correction has come on, and is encouragedthat home prices have started to drop. “The house price topicis so central to how this adjustment will play out,” he said.Markstein, Zandi and Duobinis also predict a soft landing,and deny talk of an impending recession. As long as interestrates remain stable through 2007 and builders sell off re-maining unsold inventory, the correction is more likely totake months, not years. SBC

Scott Ward (Southern Components, Inc.) sat in on the Hiring/Retaining Production Employees roundtable. “What I learnedwas that we are on the right track ourselves in what we aredoing. I took confidence back with me that we are progressingin the right direction,” he said. “This was more of a down-to-earth, relaxed setting.”

Narcis Nitu (Gem State Truss) participated in Educating theMarket roundtable. “I enjoyed the discussion because the mod-eration was good and a lot of people were talking, instead of justone,” he commented. “I learned the importance of educatinglocal inspectors and government officials on an issue before itgets to them, because by the time it gets there they already havetheir mind set.”

✰WednesdayAttendees enjoyed a continental breakfast provided at the KickoffSession with special guest comedian Dan St. Paul. The audiencewas entertained with “real-life” comedy and attendees thought itwas an “awesome” start to the show. Shayne Davis of ForintekCanada Corp commented that having Dan for the kickoff was “agreat way to get the blood pumping first thing in the morning.His connection to everyday life was great.” After a light-heartedhour of laughter, attendees got down to business for a morningof educational sessions.

Educational Sessions“There are plenty of sessions to choose from. The average per-son going could find something interesting and helpful to themat each time,” said Dan Hinkle (Blue Ridge Building Com-ponents, Inc.).

Sheldon Edgell (Southern Components Inc.) attended Building aBigger and Better Technical Team. “I enjoyed hearing the infor-mation on training and evaluating the truss technician/designteams and what you should expect from them regarding speedand accuracy and how fast they are at picking things (skills) up.”Glenn McClendon (Sun State Components), “got a lot of goodideas to pass along to my technical department.”

Brian Harmer (Kent Trusses Ltd.) learned a little about humaninteraction in How to Communicate in Today’s Ever ChangingMarket with Bryan Arzani: “I learned that I need to know moreabout myself to be able to learn more of others.” John Garcia(Mead Clark Truss Co.) applied what he heard in the seminar toa recent conflict he had been having. “This session had a simpleformat that exposed what your weakness is as a person. Youlearned where you need to fill yourself in as an individual in orderto do your best, and where the fragmented areas might be in oth-ers. I came back to the office and sat down with my guys andworked out some lack of understanding problems. There areguys that butt heads all the time, but once you remove the dis-respect due to lack of understanding, the situation is a lot better.It’s all about people and relationships,” he said.

Despite the last minute change from Fort Worth to Houston,BCMC 2006 maintained its standard of excellence. For threedays, downtown Houston became the center of the structuralbuilding components industry when BCMC moved into theGeorge R. Brown Convention Center. With 1518 attendees (2558including exhibitors) touring a show floor of 104,600 square feetof exhibit space held by 142 exhibiting companies, it was anoth-er successful year (see box for detailed break-out of attendance).With newly added roundtables and educational sessions, compo-nent manufacturers had plenty of opportunities to gain as muchbenefit out of their BCMC experience as they chose to. Let’s takea look at the highlights of BCMC, starting at the beginning.

✰TuesdayAlthough the show floor didn’t open until Wednesday, exhibitorsand attendees arrived for special events held on Tuesday. EarlyTuesday morning, alarms woke up 87 golfers who gathered at7:00 a.m. and were whisked away to a day of fun in the Texassun at the Woodlands Panther Trail. Congrats to the team of DickMarriott, Ed Heil and Rainey Statum (all from MiTek) who wonfirst place at 14 under par.

Shortly after the golf event wrapped up, the new Tuesdayevening component manufacturer roundtables kicked off. Nineroundtables were offered on the following topics: Immigration,Employee Incentive Programs, Family Owned/Small BusinessChallenges, Medium Business Challenges, Hiring/RetainingProduction Employees, Material Handling, Educating the Market,Quality Control and Training Techniques.

Attendees had positive feedback about the small, focused forum.David Mitchell (Engineered Building Design) said, “You gothrough the entire year with very little time to run ideas by yourpeers and this is the perfect opportunity to do it. You are talkingto people that you may have never talked to before, and under-standing their problems and how they dealt with them may be asolution to your own problems.”

Hinkle also noted, “It is important for component manufacturersto be aware of issues within the industry and participate withinthe industry as a group. WTCA does a lot within the industry tokeep people educated (programs, publications, seminars). BCMCis great because in the sessions you get educated on technicalissues and get to hear ideas first hand from people who are in thefrontlines of the industry.”

Loyal AttendeesThe BCMC Committee likes to reward the dedicated people andcompanies that reserve a special place for BCMC on their calen-dar each and every year. The BCMC Loyalty Rewards Program isfor individuals or companies (new this year!) that have attendedBCMC five out of the last seven years.

For loyal attendees, there are many things that keep them com-ing back steadfast every year. Loyal attendee Jason Groft (R&RComponents, Inc.) said, “I go every year to see the new technol-ogy; proximity of the equipment is a bonus. You get to see thereal products, not just watch videos or read brochures and thenyou can compare them with the others.” He also has a uniqueway of describing BCMC: “BCMC is an opportunity to meet keyplayers in the industry and it’s a forum for everyone to gettogether, it’s kind of like a festival or a celebration.”

Loyal attendee Clyde Bartlett (Bluegrass Truss Company) hasthree main reasons why he refuses to miss BCMC: “There arethree obvious reasons why I attend BCMC every year withoutfail. Number one is to see the latest in equipment and servicesthat are available to the industry. The second is for the educa-tional sessions that are available and thirdly, and to re-establishrelationships and renew contacts. I come to see people…that’sthe bottom line.” Bartlett feels strongly that BCMC is the mostimportant event in the industry. “If you want to know what’savailable as far as how to improve your company equipment-wise, it’s the place to go. If you want to learn about how toimprove your business through management and education, it’sthe place to go. If you want to build relationships with othermanufacturers and suppliers, it’s the place to go. There is nodoubt about it that in our industry, BCMC is IT,” he said.

Not only is BCMC a hotspot for manufacturers to gather, but it is also a great resource for comparing notes with peers in theindustry. “It is really important to find out that your little prob-lems are not unique and also to hear how other people deal withthe same kinds of problems,” notes Bartlett.

Welcome ReceptionThe welcome reception ran from 4-6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvresand drinks. The first BCMC Bowl drawing was held at 5:00 p.m.Gene Geurts (Richco Structures) won $200 in the Quick TieProducts booth and on his way home, Chuck Stillwaggon fromCasmin, Inc. was able to sport his new personalized set of lug-gage from It’s Your Choice.

Todd Monroe (Idaho Truss and Components) attended SafelyManaging Incoming Material and appreciated the session hand-outs. “The sample documents are invaluable! Thank you for shar-ing!” he said. Ann McDaniel (Riverside Roof Truss, Inc.) com-mented, “I attended this seminar because we are looking toimprove our safety plan to ensure that our employees and equip-ment are safe. The guidelines and starting points are great toolsthat I plan to use to improve our program.” Timothy Rouch(Gang-Nail Truss Visalia) thought the amount of information thepresenters shared was refreshing. “They did a good job on whatcan be a really dry topic. It was very generous of UFP to put forththe effort, share their procedures and not hide their blemishes.For such a big company to share so openly is significant, and ofhuge benefit to component manufacturers.”

Professional speaker Bill Cates taught manufacturers how toBuild Your Business with Unlimited Referrals. Patrick Neely(Andrews Truss Co.) found it to be particularly helpful from asales position: “The session on referrals was particularly wellreceived and insightful for me from a sales perspective. Therewere great reminders of things to practice on an everyday basisand ideas on leveraging the goodwill of the organization. Thissession benefited me the most.” Jerry Tepe (McCabe Lumber)said, “This is easy to apply to real world selling model.” JanEndfinger (Hood Industries) agreed that it was a useful presenta-tion. “Info to take back to improve individual performance. I likedthe format; it was easy to comprehend and enjoyable!”

Ribbon-cuttingAt 12:15 the show floor officially opened with the ribbon-cuttingceremony that included a photo op for the BCMC Committee:Doug Folker, Ben Hershey, Richard Parrino, James Finkenhoefer,Bob Allen, Rick Autey, Chip Dean, Barry Dixon, Helen GriffinP.Eng., Don Groom, Steve Hanek, Carl Schoening, Steve Shrader,Kelly Sias, Steven Spradlin, Steven Stroder and Mike Walsh.

For the rest of the day attendees walked to show floor, makingnew acquaintances, inquiring about machinery and visiting withold friends. Dan Hinkle (Blue Ridge Building Components, Inc.)talked about some of the things that draw him to BCMC. “Wecome just to see what’s going on and keep up with the new tech-nology that is out there. It’s nice to know what is going on in theindustry, what new products are available and what the guy downthe street is doing.” Not only is it a great place for business oppor-tunities, but networking opportunities as well. “There are a lot ofgreat people in this industry; it is nice to have a chance to talkface to face with them and exchange information,” he said.

Education is another reason that Hinkle is motivated to attendBCMC: “I would definitely advise people to go to the show,because BCMC provides a wealth of knowledge to be tapped.There is so much to do between talking to vendors, attending thebreakout sessions, roundtables and talking with other manufac-turers. Everyone is always friendly and cordial.”

(SCORE) program, Lumber Trading Data (LTD), BCSI 2006,WTCA Tech Notes, Business Management Assistance, the Fork-lift Certification program, Management Notes, In-Plant BasicTraining and ORisk.

Attendees were updated on the success of the Quality Control(QC) program with an increase from 54 certified plants in 2005 to91 certified so far in 2006. Educating the fire service through theCarbeck Structural Components Institute has improved with newwebsite features. The dates for our very important and valuable2007 Legislative Conference were announced. Industry Newsupdates and One Minute Polls (OMP) are two new servicesoffered to the SBC readership this year. Last but not least, thestatus of the new Research and Testing Facility was covered.

Shayne Davis (Forintek Canada Corp.) enjoyed learning about all of the services that WTCA has available. “This session(PowerPoint®) introduced me to the wide varieties of programsand products that WTCA offers,” he said. Kevin Corliss (LaValleyBuilding Supply, Inc.) thought that the annual report and presen-tation were very useful: “The informational video and format ofthe annual report including the calendar spaces between reports/topics was a very readable and useful piece of literaturethat I will keep and use. Having chapter meetings listed on the calendar was also great.”

WTCA Hall of FameEach year Hall of Fame inductees are selected for this honor bya vote of industry peers, and are recognized as contributing sig-nificantly to the advancement of WTCA and the structural build-ing components industry. They are honored for their active par-ticipation in the growth and success of WTCA initiatives, whichserve the overall best interests of the structural building compo-nents industry. This year there were two deserving inducteesinto the Hall of Fame: John Meeks and Kent Pagel.

John E. Meeks, P.E., has contributed greatly to the industry byencouraging safe installation of trusses in the field, specifically inthe area of bracing. Before calling Meeks to the podium, WTCAExecutive Director and Hall of Fame member Kirk Grundahlcalled Meeks “the man of bracing.”

Meeks has been involved in the industry since the 1960s, and hasserved as both Chairman of the Truss Plate Institute’s TechnicalAdvisory Committee (TPI TAC) and president of the organiza-tion. He has been involved in the evolution of the Metal PlateConnected Wood Truss design standard, including participationin the development of the 2007 version. The work Meeks hasdone to educate builders and framers about the importance ofbracing has made jobsites safer (see the May 2006 SBC article,“John Meeks: Bracing Activist,” for more information).

Meeks graciously accepted the award, thanked his peers andoffered insight into his dedication in his acceptance speech.“You support [the industry] because you love it. You support it

✰ThursdayThursday got underway with a hearty sit-down breakfast that ledup to the WTCA Annual meeting. The outgoing board memberswere thanked for their hard work throughout the year and theincoming board members were introduced. President Don Groomtalked about the association’s productive year, introducing the2006 Annual Meeting presentation. The 15-minute narrated visu-al presentation highlighted some of WTCA’s most importantevents. If you missed the meeting, you can download the pres-entation at www.sbcindustry.com/annualmtg.php.

Annual Meeting Presentation & WTCA UpdatesThe presentation started out by announcing that the WTCA 2007Secretary & 2008 President-Elect will be Ben Hershey of AllianceTruTrus, LLC. Then the results of the 7th Annual WTCA Mem-bership Drive were revealed. The top Recruiting Chapter for 2006was the Truss Manufacturers Association of Texas withWTCA–Arizona earning an honorable mention. Highest honorsfor WTCA Membership Recruiter—Component Manufacturerwere awarded to Gary Weaver of Timber Tech Texas in Cibolo,TX. Honorable mentions in this category went to Keith Azlin ofU.S. Components, LLC in Tucson, AZ and Tom Lambertz ofRoberts & Dybdahl Inc. in Des Moines, IA. The number oneWTCA Membership Recruiter in the Supplier category went toNorm McKenna of MiTek Industries. Richard Terbrock of MiTekIndustries and Thomas F. Whatley, II of Eagle Metal Productsreceived honorable mentions.

Next came a “yearbook” of what WTCA has done in 2006. E.Dewayne White (Alco White Inc.) noted why this review is such an important part of the Annual Meeting. “It gives youan overall knowledge of what WTCA is all about as well as whatthey are trying to do and also where they are at in getting itdone.,” he commented.

The name change from Wood TrussCouncil of America to WTCA – Repre-senting the Structural Building Com-ponents Industry topped off the list ofchanges this year. Membership growthwas also noted, with 770 member compa-nies and 1250 member locations. The for-mation of the Cold Formed Steel Council(CFSC) was big news as WTCA embarkson a council concept that includes thecreation of other key product line councilsto come in the future, depending on howthe CFSC works. The improvements toeducational programs and Truss Knowl-edge Online (TKO) was covered, alongwith the revisions to the TTW website.Among the new resources that are nowoffered are the Structural ComponentOperations Reaching for Excellence

Featuring the highlights of the past yearand a 15-month calendar (Oct 2006 toDec 2007), the 2006 WTCA AnnualReport is the perfect tool for recruitingnew (and lapsed) members during the8th Annual WTCA Membership Drive! Yoder accepted the honor with surprise: “I’m speechless,” hesaid. “I had no idea I was supposed to come up and receive thisaward. Thank you very much.”

Bowman Industry Enthusiast AwardThe Dick Bowman Industry Enthusiast Award is named in honorof the late Dick Bowman, a long-time BCMC and SBC Maga-zine salesman, whose enthusiasm and support of the componentindustry epitomized the views and goals of the industry. Therecipient of this award is an individual from a WTCA suppliermember company who, over the years, has supported BCMC andthe structural building components industry with enthusiasmand integrity in an unselfish and positive manner. The secondannual Dick Bowman Industry Enthusiast award was given toTom Manenti, president of MiTek Industries, Inc.

“Over a period of years, this person has consistently shown sup-port of BCMC and the industry, and he has done it selflessly andwith integrity,” WTCA Past President Rip Rogers said ofManenti, before calling him up to the podium. Rogers spoke ofhow well Manenti has served the industry during his almost 30-year career, acting as chair of the BCMC committee severaltimes, serving on WTCA’s Board of Directors and participating inthe WTCA Marketing and Legislative Committees.

Manenti began his career in the industry in 1977 as a sales rep-resentative at Gang-Nail Systems. He was promoted to presidentof Gang-Nail in 1989. He was the last president of the company,when it was acquired by MiTek in 1991.

Manenti accepted the honor with surprise, saying he wasspeechless. “It’s really been a pleasure to serve the industry andI really enjoy doing it,” he said. “Thanks so much.”

Transfer of Presidency2006 President Don Groom passed the gavel to the association’s23rd president, Barry Dixon. First, Groom acknowledged the man-agement and employees of Stark Truss Company, where he servesas Vice President of Operations, for supporting him during histerm. Among Groom’s achievements was the WTCA Board of Dir-ectors resolution to change the association’s name to “WTCA –Representing the Structural Building Components Industry.” “Ibelieve this change is a great strategic move for the association,because the new name doesn’t simply include the componentsavailable today, but also the design and engineering advance-ments that are sure to develop 20 years from now,” Groom noted.

Groom welcomed Dixon to the podium, wished him a successfulyear and officially transferred the office. Dixon began his addresswith a seemingly well-intentioned morning stretch. The“stretch” turned out to be a salute to Dixon’s alma mater, FloridaState University, and the entire audience was soon engaged inthe Florida State football chant, much to the chagrin of all thosewho bet that Barry could not make Florida State fans out of thetruss industry for one day.

The second Hall of Fame inductee is Kent Pagel, partner in theHouston, TX law firm of Pagel, Davis and Hill, P.C. and long-timelegal counsel for WTCA.

Pagel was introduced to the structural building components indus-try through Rip Rogers, WTCA Past President and Hall of Famer.He became WTCA’s legal counsel in 1994, and was the originalauthor and member of the consensus committee for the develop-ment of ANSI TPI 1-1995, WTCA’s first Design Responsibilitiesdocument. Pagel has also been a contributor to SBC Magazinesince 1994. He leads seminars on risk management for componentmanufacturers and, along with WTCA staff, has worked to createthe new Online Risk and Liability Management (ORisk) program,helping members learn to better protect themselves.

“One of [Pagel’s] component manufacturer clients stated that hisknowledge of our industry, his fair and straightforward dealing,and his tenacity for solving problems are unsurpassed among allthe lawyers he has worked with in the past 40 years in this busi-ness,” WTCA Past President Scott Arquilla, of Best Homes, Inc.,said during his introduction of Pagel. “His actions have spokenvolumes and we have all benefited.”

Pagel, who had no advance knowledge of the honor, acceptedthe award and thanked WTCA. He specifically thanked RipRogers, noting that Rogers significantly influenced his career.“It’s a real privilege,” Pagel said. “It’s an honor to do it. Thankyou very much.”

SBC Industry Leadership AwardThe SBC Industry Leadership Award premiered this year andwas established to honor individuals who have helped nurture,support and grow the structural building components industry asa whole with their vision, innovation and creativity. Recipientsmay be component manufacturers, suppliers, associates or any-one else whose efforts have helped to make the industry intowhat it is today. The founder of Stark Truss Company, AbnerYoder, was the first to receive this award.

Yoder has been an innovator and developer of new industry ideasfor over 40 years, and believes life is about the people and livesyou touch, not about what you own or the money you have.“This man built his company on three simple rules,” WTCA’s2006 President Don Groom said of Yoder, before calling him upto the podium, “Love your employees, love your suppliers andlove your customers.”

Before becoming an irreplaceable member of the structural build-ing components industry, Yoder worked as a carpenter. Heentered the industry in 1963 when he purchased a Gang-Nailfranchise and started Stark Truss. He worked as president of thecompany until 1999.

At 10:30 the exhibit hall openedand attendees streamed onto the show floor to make the most ofthe entire day. The second pair of BCMC Bowl winners wasdrawn at 1:00 p.m. Theodore Barlow (Truss Design) won a TexasHold’em Poker Set in the Simpson Strong-Tie booth and MichaelHall (Kentucky-Indiana Lumber Co., Inc.) received a video iPodcourtesy of Truswal Systems Corporation booth. At 3:30 twomore BCMC Bowl winners were drawn. Roberta Vann (EasternBuilding Components) will be strutting her stuff in the LeatherBomber Jacket she won in the MiTek Industries booth. AndRobbins Engineering gave Matthew Hill (Berry Truss &Component Shop, Inc.) two sporty Leather Lettermans Jacketswith the Robbins logo.

Fifteen minutes later, the most sought after prize was givenaway at the Lakeside Trailer booth. This year, Kurt Ott from 84Components was the lucky man to walk away the use of aLakeside Trailer for a full year.

Thursday afternoon offered one more opportunity for componentmanufacturers to gather ‘round and discuss issues in concentrat-ed groups. The five issues based on earlier educational sessionswere: Your Technical Team: Build, Grow & Transition for theFuture, Spend Smarter to Build Smarter: Maximizing Your R.O.I.,Biting Your Rails, Technical Notes: Clarifying Business Codes &Engineering Laws and Benchmarking for Success. Participantswere able to have in-depth conversations that built on ideas theyheard about in sessions.

✰FridayFriday morning drew a crowd of more than 200 for the highlyanticipated “Economic Forecast” given by BCMC favorite, Dr.Stan Duobinis. As always, Stan captured the attention of theaudience and kept it throughout the entire presentation as headdressed the industry’s near-term economic picture. “Stan wasa very prepared speaker who made what could have been a veryboring subject very, very interesting and fun,” commented DanKorgan (Clearspan Truss Inc.). For a detailed economic forecastfor the industry, turn to page 52.

Following the forecast, attendees headed to the show floor to fin-ish networking and business in the remaining hours of the show.The last two BCMC Bowl drawings were held at 11:30. In theUSP Structural Connectors booth Todd Monroe from Idaho Trussand Component was the recipient of a portable DVD player.Moments later, Paul Werner of Automated Products Inc. walkedaway from the BCMC booth with a $500 prize in his pocket.

At 12:30, the 26th Annual BCMC show floor closed, but for somecomponent manufacturers the day was not quite over. Nearly 250attendees showed up to attend tours of two local manufacturingplants. Trussway Inc. hosted two tours of 55 people each at its

When Dixon graduated from FSU is 1989, he already had fiveyears of industry experience under his belt at his father’s busi-ness, True House, Inc. Dixon currently serves as COO, and hehas overseen many expansions at the company, including theaddition of a design firm in the 1990s. Dixon attended his firstWTCA Board of Directors meeting in 1997 as the North FloridaComponent Manufacturers Association (NFCMA) president, arole he held from 1995-2000. In 2004 he was elected to theBoard’s Executive Committee.

Among his priorities as president, Dixon challenges every com-ponent manufacturer to “develop new manufacturing processesand more efficient and economical applications for our products.”In his address, he reminded his fellow manufacturers that “Ourefforts in this area will have a big impact on advancing the struc-tural building components industry.” He also encouraged WTCAmembers to become involved in their association through a variety of means such as attending Open Quarterly Meetings and BCMC.

Educational Sessions, continuedFollowing the annual meeting was the last group of educationalsessions. Bruce Bain (Richco Structures) got a lot of meaty infor-mation from The Next Generation Technical Team. “Anytimethat you get someone with experience talking about technicalwork and personnel you are going to learn something to put intopractice. It is also helpful to see things from a different viewpoint, particularly how they setup their engineering group,” hesaid of Mike Kozlowski’s presentation. “One important conceptthat I gained from this session was a comparison on the waywork can get done. It was interesting to hear about his conceptson individuals versus teams and his ideas on how they compare.”

Incentive Compensation: If & How?, a session presented by JoeHikel, was well received by manufacturers of all types. Someranked it among the best ever. David Saunders (Reliable Trussand Components, Inc.) said, “This was the best seminar I haveever been to.” Mike Karceski (Atlas Components, Inc.) agreed:“This was the best session I have ever attended at any BCMC.”Shannon Morrissey (Christensen Lumber Co.) commented, “Thissession was the best one I went to. The speaker opened upabout his business and gave us usable ideas.”

The session inspired John Garcia (Mead Clark Truss Company) toevaluate the global function of incentive programs. “The trussindustry has typically been a pushing/yard dog atmosphere, withthreatening management,”he said. “Incentive compensation ischanging the relationship so that there is more communicationbetween the workforce and management. In a perfect world, it isa partnership between the two; and what employee doesn’twant that?”

About Immigration Reform: How it will Affect Your Business,Jackie Crutcher (Norvell & Wallace Lumber Co.) said it was a“Great, real world topic.”

nearby Houston facility, and Scholl Truss in Houston hostedthree tours totaling 134. Always a major attraction, the tours hadbeen filled up by the beginning of August, but hopeful attendeesstill showed up for standby tickets, some patiently waiting forover two hours to get a seat on the last tour.

✰ConclusionWith all the buzz about where the industry is headed going into2007, the BCMC provided the perfect venue to plan for thefuture. John Garcia, Truss Manager at Mead Clark Truss Co. inSanta Rosa, CA, summed it up well in the following email he sentto staff shortly after the show:

“Thank you for your efforts on the BCMC Show. As a first timeattendee I was overwhelmed with the vast array of exhibitorsexpanding my mind with ways of increasing efficiencies andcapacities in all areas of operations from sales to deliveries.
