LATAM’s New FriendsLATAM has applied for two separate joint business agreements, one with American Airlines and another with British Airways parent International Airlines Group (IAG).The agreements will ‘strengthen re-lationship of LATAM Airlines Group and other oneworld members, which respond to a global industry tenden-cy’, says the group. They’ll be gradu-ally implemented and offer benefits including access to a network of over 420 destinations for LATAM; more flights and better connections; in-creased seat availability and more competitive prices; and increased potential of adding new routes and direct flights to new destinations.

A Webjet advertisement which denounces travel agents has had the opposite effect, with many consumers voicing their support for agents, says TAANZ.The Webjet ad sees a woman recount-ing her experience with an agent, saying the agent only offered her four flight options when she knew there were ‘heaps more’ by looking online.“And we thought, we’re not stupid. We can do better than that ourselves. So we did,” she says. The ad unsurprising ly caused uproar from agents, but there was also an outpouring of sup-port from consumers, who were quick to point out the benefits of

booking through a professional. “Since Webjet’s adver t isement launched we’ve seen an outpouring of positive stories from consum-ers who favour booking their holi-days and business trips with a travel agent. Members of the public have been quick to take to social media to share their stories,” says TAANZ boss Andrew Olsen. “The positive responses from con-sumers who are championing the benefits of travel agents proves the value a travel agent brings to plan-ning and booking the perfect trip.”
