Huskies Out of School Time Expectations:School time rules applyStudents must pre-register and be listed on the Club Attendance Roster in order to participateClasses have limited spaces, therefore students are placed on a first come, first serve basisClubs meet from 2:30pm – 4:00pm. Students are expected to arrive on time, and to stay in the activity area for the duration of that club’s time.Snack is provided, going off campus, such as to a store (during session) is not allowed Students are NOT allowed to remain after school or use

HOMEWORK CLUB: This program is designed to provide students with help on their homework, projects, or simply studying for that next big test in a quiet supportive environment. Tutors are available each session and students should plan to bring work to every session. Dates for specific language assistance to be determinedNew! Art on a Theme: This class teaches students the basics of drawing with charcoal and painting with acrylics culminating with a final painting project group piece. This class will focus on observation, respect, creativity, and using these skills as a team. Bridge: What does Bill Gates and Macklemore have in common? Besides being from Washington-they both play the card game BRIDGE! Learn to play bridge, have fun and get better at Math while you’re at it, and learn from some of the best BRIDGE players today!Computing Technology Rhino: Mr. Rye will teach students advanced 3-D solid modeling software (CAD) and basic mechanical engineering applicationsNew! Chess Club Come join Mr. Casey’s H.O.S.T on Thursdays, where we will learn a bit about the history, strategy, and logic of one of the world’s great games. Novices and advanced students welcome—there will be plenty of boards and lots of potential opponents!New!Cooking Club: In addition to lots of chopping and tasting, participants will learn about ingredients and basic cooking techniques. Homemade Mac & Cheese, Fruit Cobbler, Ramen, Pizza, Tamales are examples of dishes that we might make. Using fresh ingredients and cooking from scratch make our meals awesome! If you are open to new tastes, don't mind doing some dishes and want some skills so that you can make your food taste the way that you like it, join our club!New!Creative Computing Kids: You’ll learn the fundamentals of computer programming and how to use these powerful tools creatively using Scratch, a web based game design and animation program. Whether using the paint tool to draw and bring to life a world of dinosaurs, helping an explorer navigate a maze, or creating a multi-level ninja fighting game, you will make your ideas come to life by learning to communicate with computers through the language of code.New!¡Cultura Cura! at Washington Middle School is a culturally focused after school program specifically geared for our Latino students. We will address student's academic concerns as well as develop our sense of belonging in the Washington Middle School community. In ¡Cultura Cura! we will also focus on building a positive cultural identity among students and building a positive Latino presence in the building by highlighting Latino artists, authors, musicians and athletes in WMS display cases and bulletin boards. Fashion 101: Is an introduction to sewing, fashion designing and patternmaking. Students will learn the proper techniques in handling sewing machines, fabric preparation, cutting, tracing patterns, fashion drawing and also understanding patterns. There will be field trips within this program such as attending fashion shows, go-see clothing manufacturing company, fashion shoot, fashion school, fabric stores, trade shows, and used clothing stores. Students are also given design challenges similar to Project Runway. In this workshop, students learn skills set such as research, presentation, group solidarity, and creativity designs.Get REAL: Learn to have healthy relationships and find support with making friends. The program will incorporate fun activities, and encourage students to share and discuss their own opinions. Topics covered will be: stress, negative and positive emotions, support systems, choosing a friend, communication skills, bullying, resisting pressure, boundaries and warning signs of abuse.NewG.O.L.D.HADA: Promote healthy choices with fun activities, prevention of drugs/alcohol; create prevention projects, go to conferences with other youth groups and more!NewHIS (Huskies Inspiring Success) A group for young men to explore the meaning of success through thoughtful discussions, group projects, and fun team-building activities. Spots will be open to grades 7-8 only.NewKickstart Computer Science In the future, coding will be the new literacy. This program guides you through the foundations of computer science as you first learn how to code in an intuitive visual language called blockly, then create a work of art with the renowned Turtle graphics module. Students will even have the opportunity to use a full programming language - JavaScript or Python!

NewMechanical Engineering and Robotics Introduction Engineering and Physics introduction exploring Mechanics and Laws of Motion with introduction to robotic programming with moving/touch/optic/color sensors. Materials students will use are Lego Technic Bricks, Robotic Bloothooth device, Computers, Programming Software. Class seeks maximum of 15 students.NewNinja Kid Fitness Program:Working with kids to develop a fun fitness program and learn about the importance of a healthy nutritional eating habit!! The program will be achieved through a combination of physical exercise, videos and lectures. The exercise portion will put your child through our Ninja training to develop strength, flexibility and toughness. The course is taught by a former U.S. Marine and fitness Guru. Your child will go through a Bootcamp style Ninja training to help them get ready to complete the Crucible. The Crucible is the final obstacle course that your child will need to complete to earn the title of a Ninja! The nutrition portion is designed to show kids the benefits of healthy eating. In today’s world, kids are influenced by television, social media, billboards and magazines to eat junk food and other fast foods. We will talk about the importance of minimizing junk and fast food and eat more nutritious foods. Ninjas know the importance of a healthy diet so they can perform at their peak levels, physically and mentally. Does your child have what it takes to become a Ninja? RAMP: An academic support for 6th graders.New! Youth 180: Youth180 is a youth-adult partnership committed to being a model of effective gang prevention and intervention, fostering youth empowerment, civic engagement and creating safe communities.Theater: Students will create short monologues that encourage self-expression and artistic flexibility. Through the process of rehearsal, skill enhancing games and exercises, members will learn character-building talents in a forum that fosters opportunity for self expression.Zoo Crew: If you like animals, then ZooCrew is for you! Join ZooCrew where you will have an opportunity to visit the zoo, learn about the environment, and design a project to help animals in Washington.NewStudent Success After School is a program for students working with our student success coordinator. This program will meet on Tuesdays to focus primarily on homework. Each week we will spend the whole two hours working on late/missing, and current assignments, meeting with teachers, and monitoring student progress on the source for each class. Class enrollment requires approval from Ms. Angela Frith-Gomez.
