Write sentences containing these tricky words.
Activity – Tricky word snap write out two copies of each tricky word onto a piece of
paper. Shuffle the cards and split them between two
people. Each person has a turn to put the card on the
table and say what word they think it is. Then the next
player puts one on top, and says it. Continue until you get two of the same. The winner is the person who puts their
hand on them first and shouts ‘Snap!’
Guided Reading Read the title of the book.
Who do they think the main character will be? What could
the Queen’s plan be? Throughout the text there are speech bubbles- remind your
child that speech bubbles show us what the characters are saying. Can they read the speech bubbles in the text a
posh voice like the Queen and King?

think of the most words. write the sounds oy, ir, ue, aw on paper- can the children splat the correct sound each
time it is said?
The Queen is good at fixing and the King is a great Chef. Do you have a special talent? Take a photograph/video of
something you are really good at and send it in to us?

1. Children will be using different 3D shapes to make their own castle. This can be using old cardboards boxes, construction toys, recycled materials etc. Children will
also be finding the mistakes in repeating patterns (these can be seen on the video or

Addition skillsToday, children will be using their addition skills to work
out how many spots there are altogether.
Children can use the 10 frames to help them. Tens
frames can be printed out or drawn (You can use one
frame for Ellen’s spots and one for princess mirror-
belles). Can children draw a circle in each box of the tens frame as they count out the
spots? Can they add the tens frames together to work out how many spots there are?

OrderingCan children put the different
ways Princess mirror-belle tried to make a cure in order? You can print out the activity from the reception page on the school website, cut out
the pictures and put them in order. If you are unable to
print them out, you can keep the page on the screen and discuss with children what
order they should go.Children will also be making a list of items to make a cure as
well as a search and find activity.
Additional activities to try:
Using the search and find Sleeping Beauty sheet on the reception page of the school,
can children follow instructions and descriptions
to find different characters/objects? E.g. can you find the 1 prince? How many people are wearing crowns? Can you find the

Counting and orderingToday, children will be using toilet roll to create a number line! Can they write each of the numbers? Can they put
them in order? How many sheets will it take to cover your whole body?

Estimating quantities – make a group of up to 20 small
objects – can children estimate how many objects there are? Can they guess
how many of each colour/shape/style of objects there are? Create a table to
show their estimates and the exact amount.

reflection into a double? How many spots would there be? (Children can use 10s frame to help them with this again). Children will also be looking at
different shoe sizes and capacity.

What are the different ways you can measure the shoes? You can use 1p coins, lego
bricks, cars etc. Can children estimate how many of these it will take to fill the length of a shoe? Can they make a table to show their estimate and

Have a go at making your own Tricky Words Snakes and Ladders Game
Talk about glass as a material can you go on a hunt around your house and find some different materials. Perhaps you could do some sorting with different materials – glass, wood, metal etc. Look at materials that are shiny/not shiny. Can you write a list?
Make a magic mirror like the one in the story
Can you go on a Pirate reflection hunt – inside and outside?
Imagine you are a pirate looking for shiny treasure.
Can you find reflections in mirrors and shiny surfaces? Some examples you might find could
be: glass doors, kettle, toaster, spoon, oven door, a puddle, shop windows… Draw and make
your own pirate map to show where you find your shiny treasure. We would love to see
Self-portrait- Can you look at yourself in a mirror and create a self-portrait? This can be made out of paint, by drawing, collage, natural materials etc.We’d love to see some of your wonderful creations.
