Empire

Empire is a monthly British film magazine published by Bauer Consumer Media. Its first issue was in July 1989 and now it's the biggest selling film magazine in Britain. It’s sold in the UK, Australia, Turkey, Russia and Portugal. Empire even has it’s own annual awards which are sponsored by Sony Ericsson.

Total film

Total Film is a British film magazine, launched in 1997, it’s the 2nd biggest selling film magazine after Empire. It’s had Peter Jackson, Kermit the Frog and Kevin Smith as guest editors.

SkyfallThis is a subscriber only cover; this is why there are no adverts or things to grab your attention. To keep their costumers subscribe to their magazine they give them limited edition covers making them feel they are getting something exclusive. Empire have made this cover to like a film poster, as there subscribers will be film fans and enjoy collecting to do with film.

background has been used to make the red Empire title stand out more and grab attention.

“Nobody does it better” This could be referring to James Bond the character or even the magazine suggesting they have have the biggest scoop on the new James Bond film.

The bullet holes on the magazine make it look action packed with the latest film news, making the viewer want to buy it. It also goes well with the James Bond photo.

The stills of other films shows the audience what's in the magazine, making them want to but it.

James Bond is looking at the audience inviting them to read the magazine. The pose, costume and prop (gun) all show he is James Bond as he is so well known for these key features.

More information about the history of James Bond is advertised to try get the fans of James Bond to buy this issue and then maybe get hooked and buy more.

Total Film Skyfall cover

Total film has adverts showing off that’s in their magazine all over the cover.

The black and white photo makes the yellow and red text grab your attention.

Total film uses the word “unseen” making the audience feel they are getting something exclusive.

James Bond is looking at the audience inviting them to read the magazine. The pose, costume and prop (gun) all show he is James Bond as he is so well known for these key features.

“essential preview” is in red to stand out from the rested of the sentence making the audience read it. The word choice of “essential” makes the audience feel it’s absolutely necessary that they find out this information/preview.

Empire and Total Film

All three of these covers I looked at had very similar pictures of James Bond, so I believe that the film company would of made James Bond have lots of similar photos took to sell to magazines.
