REAL STORIES
Her journey at the college has changed Brandee for the better. With the help of our Community Integration Through Cooperative Education program (CICE), she was able to gain the confidence and skills to pursue a career in social work. She went on to become a confident Registered Social Service worker who did not know that she would make it this far. From learning accommodations to a successful working contract and now pursuing her degree in Social work — her determination is infectious. Brandee mentions, “I was a square peg trying to fit into a round peg society, meaning I learn differently and need accommodations but I have something to offer just like everyone else. I am very thankful for Sault College – they helped me make my dreams come true!” Amazing words for an amazing person.

There is a sense of strength with living in Sault Ste. Marie. There’s an energy. You’ll see.Living in Sault Ste. Marie offers the kind of lifestyle that people dream about. The space to breathe and the ability to prioritize whatever is most important that day.
The sun, miles of sandy beaches, swimming, BBQs, biking and more. Sault Ste. Marie is a gateway to summer adventure for day trips up the coast of Lake Superior… and all of the camping, hiking, and roasting marshmallows you want.
For the summertime urbanite, the Sault also has enough to keep you busy; dog parks, skate parks, downtown street parties, walks along the boardwalk, a summer concert series, outdoor yoga and fitness classes, and a 22.5 km non-motorized hub trail are just some of the amenities you can take advantage of.

Making the most of winter is what we do
in Sault Ste. Marie.
Sault Ste. Marie has over 150 km of world-class ski trails, and is just a 45 minute car ride to one of the best mountain resorts in Ontario. It is also home of the Soo Greyhounds, and the historic Bon Soo Winter Carnival, the ‘Fifth Season’ in Northern Ontario.

Ice fishing, fatbiking, skating, skiing, snowboarding, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice caves, hiking and more…all of this winter adventure right in our backyard.
In the Sault, you can sign-up for a yoga snowshoe class during the day and take a midnight ski by the light of lanterns at night. Roast marshmallows at the waterfront skating trail, and then follow it up with a night of hockey at the newly constructed GFL Memorial Gardens.

You learn by doing. So, we do learning differently. Here, we’re transforming the way you learn. It’s amazing and focuses on something called experiential learning.
Experiential learning is education through doing and then reflecting on your experiences in order to grow a lasting knowledge base. It’s really effective when it comes to soaking up new and important information. Trust us.
Experiential learning involves you more deeply in the learning process rather than asking you to simply absorb information through lectures and books. It sets you up for success by immersing you in real-world scenarios where problem-solving, decision making, collaboration and planning are all part of the learning process. It’s like giving you valuable experience before you even start your career. And employers LOVE that. It’s no wonder why our grads are among the most employable in the province.
Here, technology is instrumental in giving you the most impactful experiential learning environment. You have access to simulators, labs, and field camps all designed with your success in mind. It’s amazing. It’s hands-on. And you will find it here.
