A few things to share with you this week ...

1. I would like to start by first sharing some exciting updates on our seminarians- in particular Deacon Chuck Warren, who was with us last summer, and Scotty Girolamo, our native son from our parish family. First, Deacon Warren will be ordained to the Priesthood on Saturday, June 1 at the Cathedral in Rockford. Please keep him in your prayers as he approaches the home stretch towards his ordination. He will be ordained with 2 other men to the priesthood, and so this is truly a blessing for our diocesan family! The newly ordained Fr. Warren will then come back to our parish to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Saturday, June 8 at the 4:00PM Mass. I hope that all of you can join us for this wonderful celebration! There will then be a light reception for (soon to be) Fr. Warren immediately following Mass in Seton Hall. If you are willing to bring a plate of cookies or some juice for the reception, please contact Marcie in the Parish Office.

The other piece of exciting news is that seminarian Scotty Girolamo (as I mentioned, our native son) will be officially assigned by the Diocese here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for his summer assignment. We have all seen him in and out of the parish over the years serving Mass on breaks from school and so on, but this summer he will officially be assigned here—which means he will be living in the rectory with Fr. Easton and myself for a couple months, working full- time in the parish. He will be starting May 26 and will be here through July 28. Ordinarily, it is not the norm that a seminarian gets a full summer assignment at his home parish, but the Lord works in mysterious ways at times, and so, He moved the heavens and the earth to make this happen. We are very excited to have him with us! Scotty will serve and lector at Mass, work in the Parish Office, go on the summer mission trip with youth ministry, give a talk one evening on the joys and struggles of seminary

FROM THE DESK OF OUR PASTOR

life among other things. Please be sure to give him a warm welcome when you see him!

2. I would like to invite all parish members to a Scripture Study that I will be holding on Saturday, June 8 at 9:30AM. This will be a one hour instruction on how to enter more fully into the beauty of the Bible and how to learn to “pray” Sacred Scripture. We will be using the ancient technique of Lectio Divina. We will discuss and meditate on various scripture passages that relate to the sites we will encounter while on our pilgrimage. Although this study was primarily put together for those who will be traveling to the Holy Land in August, everyone is more than welcome to join in and learn. If you do plan to attend, please be sure to purchase and bring the MAGNIFICAT: HOLY LAND COMPANION. This is the book that we will be using for this instruction as well bringing with us to Israel and Jordan in August . Please contact Marcie in the Parish Office for more details.

Have your vehicle (or vehicles) blessed next weekend after all Masses before the Summer travel season is fully in swing! Immediately after each Mass, the priest will go out into the parking lot to bless all of the vehicles present. A Deacon will be at each of the exits to sprinkle your car with holy water as you exit the lot. You really don’t want to leave Mass early, or you will miss out on the blessing!!

"SUFFERING AND THE PROBLEM OF EVIL"

Fr. Grady will address this difficult and often misunderstood topic. Fr. will explain the origin of evil and why bad things happen to good people in addition to why God allows suffering and evil in this world. He will look at historical and current events in relation to evil. He will also address how we can best handle these frightening and heart wrenching occurrences as we trust in God's Mercy and maintain our Faith. This fascinating talk will be held on TUESDAY, MAY 21 AT 7PM IN SETON HALL, and will be repeated on Wednesday, MAY 22 AT 9:30AM.

It could be to venerate our Blessed Mother, to ask a spiritual favor of her, to beg for a physical cure, to perform an act of penance, or offer thanksgiving and fulfill a promise. The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe welcomes millions of visitors each year. It is the most visited pilgrimage site in the entire world—yes, more people visit this shrine over Rome and the Holy Land combined! One glance at the miraculous Tilma and you will see why! It is truly something to behold. The Shrine and the Tilma are just part of many things we will see and places we will visit. We will visit the spot where St. Michael the Archangel appeared to Diego Lazaro in 1631. We will celebrate Mass at the tomb of Fr. Miguel Agustin Pro, the Jesuit martyr. We will visit the Church of the 5th Apparition, where the Blessed Virgin Maria de Guadalupe appeared to Juan Bernardino, Juan Diego's uncle. It is here that we will find a well of healing water which locals drink, and you will be able to bring some home with you! We will visit the beautiful city of Puebla where we will view the incorrupt body of St. Sebastian of Aparicido. The flight is short and the price is reasonable (compared to European trips). Consider joining this once in a lifetime pilgrimage! Pick up a flyer in the Narthex. Contact [email protected] for more information.

CHICAGO SUMMER PILGRIMAGE

Join Fr. Grady on a one day pilgrimage JUNE 26TH to 3 beautiful churches in Chica-go. Our first stop will be ST. JOHN CANTIUS where we will have a tour. This church is nothing less than captivating! The second church that we will visit will be OLD ST. PATRICK'S

where Fr. Grady will celebrate a private Mass for our group. The last stop will be at the NATIONAL SHRINE OF ST. FRANCES XAVIER CABRINI along the lake-front. Here in a reliquary beneath the altar, you will find a

section of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini‘s arm in a glass case. There is also a museum depicting the life of this devoted saint which in-cludes many of her per-sonal belongings. We will also visit Navy Pier where everyone will have time on their own to have lunch, ride the Ferris Wheel or explore whatever inter-

ests you! There are lots of fun things to do on Navy Pier! We ask everyone to be at the parish by 6:15AM to check in. Approx-imate return back at the parish is 6PM. We will travel via coach bus (with a bathroom). Fr. Grady will lead us in some pray-

ers as we travel downtown. The cost is $75 per person. No refunds can be given after 6/11/19. Contact Marcie in the parish office for more information. (815)459-3033.

T!" R##$% #& $!" C'(%(% Dr. Tim Gray The clergy sexual abuse scandals have rocked the Catholic Church and caused a crisis of faith (and of

evangelization) for many. When facing such a daunting and terrible crisis, it can be difficult to find the right way forward.

In this talk, Dr. Tim Gray explains with conviction and insight that to make any real and lasting change, we must keep faith, and look closely at the deep roots behind this crisis. Times of great scandal and corruption in the Church can be followed by times of even greater renewal and revival, if faithful men and women will enter the constructive conflict that truth requires. VOCATION CORNER By Fr Kyle Manno As human beings we are men and women of habit. We get up and have the same morning routine every single day. When we go to the store we must likely park in the same area of the parking lot that we always park in. When we go to our fa-vorite restaurant we probably get the same meal each time. This is not because we are boring but because we love what we know and God made us to be creatures of habit. Since we are indeed human being of habit then the best way to grow in our prayer life is to make it habitual. So the question today is, ‘Where is your habit of prayer in your daily life?’ Now to make the question more specific, ‘Do you pray at least 15 minutes every single day?’ If not then let’s start with a plan and if so, then bump it up to 20 or 25 minutes a day! The best thing to do to establish a prayer routine is to start small and be consistent. Put 5 minutes of prayer somewhere in your normal daily routine. Maybe right after you brush your teeth sit down and pray for those 5 minutes. Then do that eve-ry day. After a month it will just be a normal daily habit to brush and then pray! After a few weeks make that 5 minutes 10, a few weeks later 15 and there it is! After a month or so you have obtained your habit of 15 minutes of prayer! Start today and become a person of prayer!
