Operational Service Plan

• The fire contract between Fire District 40 and the City of Renton states:– The level of service shall be based on the Fire &

Emergency Services Department’s operational service plan

– The plan shall be reviewed annually by the District Commissioners.

• The plan for 2010 was reviewed on October 8, 2009.

Services Provided

• “The city agrees to provide to the residents of District 40 the same level of fire and emergency services as provided to the residents of the City of Renton…”

• Two metrics of success of the level of service are:– Response Time– Staffing

Renton Response Time Goal

Council Resolution 3976 - The Renton Fire & Emergency Services Department aspires, in a non-disaster situation and under current funding, staffing and equipment, to respond to 90% of the emergency service calls in the current service area within 7-1/2 minutes.

Fire District On-Duty Staffing

• Engine Company 17 • Aid Car 17 • Battalion 13 (1/2)

Battalion Chief/Safety Officer

• Battalion 13 responds from Fire Station 13.

• Fire District 40 pays for 25% of the BC/SO coverage in the Renton Fire & Emergency Services system.

Aid Car 17

• Aid Car 17 is staffed 24 hours a day with (2) Firefighter EMTs.

• A-17 provides Basic Life Support (BLS) services, including transportation to a medical facility free of charge.

Engine Company 17

• Engine 17 is staffed with four people.

• One of the members is a company officer (Captain or Lieutenant).

• Three members are Firefighter EMTs.

Four Person Staffing

• E-17 is able to immediately enter a burning structure despite the type of incident by virtue of having four responders on the engine.

• State law prohibits entry into a burning structure with less than four people assembled when there is not a confirmed life hazard in the building.
