Utility Response Series This Series will give Firefighters the opportunity to get four different areas of training to help them in responding to emergencies involving utilities. Students will receive 3 PSFA certificates and 1 BC3 certifi-cate. Students must attend all 4 classes to receive their certificates. Certificates will not be issued for one class. Fire Rescue Awareness Series This series will give the Firefighter the opportunity to learn about four different rescue disciplines. From this point on the student can decide if he/she would like to move on to more extensive training in each disci-pline. Students will receive 2 PSFA, 2 BC3 and 1 Fish and Boat com-mission certificates for the weekend. Students must attend all 5 classes to receive their certificates. TECHNICAL HEAVY TRUCK RESCUE For the student to have an understanding of the difficulties associated with Commercial Vehicle Rescue as compared to Basic Vehicle Rescue and the skills to accomplish this technical rescue successfully and safe-ly. PREREQUISITES: -ELIF or EBM or FFI, BVRT CLASS LIMIT: -24 STUDENTS LOCATION: -BC3 / OFFSITE INSTRUCTOR: -Dennis Cherish NOTE: This is not a basic rescue class and is in no way intended to replace a basic vehicle rescue course. The student should have the skills equivalent to those acquired in the PA State Fire Academy Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician course. Students will need: Full TOG/PPE with eye protection

FIRE DEPARTMENT TOPICS SERIES This series is general in nature and gives the Firefighter an introduction to knowledge that he/she can take back to their fire department and begin using immediately. The information, though general in nature is important to the day to day operation of every fire department. Stu-dents will receive 4 PSFA for the weekend. Students must attend all 4 classes to receive their certificates. 11 THINGS A FIRE OFFICER MUST KNOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL

This course is specially designed to help the new and current Brigade or Line Officer to be successful as they continue or begin their term or appointment as an Officer. This course will reinforce and introduce the legal requirements, relationship building, management disciplines, lead-ership skills, planning and other essential requirements to be successful. This is a break from the normal leadership classes. You will be given the basic knowledge and tools you need to become an effective leader in the fire service PREREQUISITES: -Students must be a brigade or line officer to attend this class. INCIDENT SAFETY OFFICER (NFA) ISO This course focuses on the duties of the person who finds him/herself in the role of the responding safety officer at the scene of an incident. It is an incident-specific, scene-oriented course designed to teach what a safety officer on the scene needs to know and be able to do, using sce-narios to convey instructional points. Students should be experienced company officers, familiar with safety issues, the ICS, Haz-mat man-agement, and applicable NFPA standards and federal regulations. PUMP OPERATIONS I (PUOP) This course provides the firefighter with an introduction to basic pump construction and theory as well as operating techniques in this course. AVIATION RESCUE & FIREFIGHTING FOR THE STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTER

This is a new course developed by Erie Airport Fire Chief Rick Robie and Butler County Community College. It is designed to edu-cate structural firefighters to proper rescue and firefighting techniques to be used when confronted with an aviation accident. This course will associate them with the special hazardous encounter with an aircraft accident such as special fuels, aircraft components and construction, types of aircraft crashes, proper extinguishment techniques, extinguish-ment agents, rescue procedures, mass casualties, mutual aid-multi agen-cy response, and site investigation. EMS Response to the large Scale Incident: The Forgotten Details

The first part will be titled "Managing the Mass Causality Incident" (1.0 Med and .5 other) This will cover the understanding of an MCI, the operations, logistics, resource management, etc. It will cover the inci-dent from start to finish. After Lunch we will do the second part of the class. It's called "Emergency Rehab, Beyond Bottled Water" (1.0 Med and 2.0 Other) It is going to cover the long term effect of the MCI on a first responder. Treatments both physically and mentally. ENGINE COMPANY OPERATIONS (ECOP) This course provides instruction in the duties and responsibilities of an engine company. Topics include: positioning of apparatus, use of attack and back-up lines, search and rescue, and water supply. STRATEGIES AND TACTICS FOR THE RURAL FIRE DEPT Firefighters and fire officers must be prepared to handle situations they encounter when responding to emergencies. This course will help stu-dents recognize the importance of selecting safe and appropriate strate-gies and tactics at structural fires. It will also help students understand the importance of conducting a thorough size-up, how to appropriately manage risk, effective radio communications, and how their decisions can affect the outcome of an incident. Instructor led group discussion on various fire ground tactics will be an integral part of this course. RESIDENTIAL RESCUE 46% of all structure fires are residential in nature. This class will allow searches to be accomplished faster and safer. This class will cover: ef-fects of fire flow on search, review of fire behavior, VES, basic search review, oriented search, split search, drag techniques, ladder rescue, and multiple scenarios under smoke condition. . Mass Shootings, Penetrating Trauma, and Basic Tactical EMS Exercises

Col. Tom Stein, MD and Lt. Col. Allan Philp, MD (SEP) from Alle-gheny Health Network team up with Butler County Team 200 to bring you this invaluable presentation. Lt. Col. Philp will discuss Penetrat-ing trauma, followed by Col. Stein’s first-hand experience of the 1991 Luby’s Cafeteria Massacre. The afternoon session will consist of basic Tactical EMS exercises led by Butler County Special Medical Re-sponse Team (Team 200). Graphic materials will be shown (discretion advised). Please wear long pants/BDUs, and works boots. An application for 8 Continuing Hours in the Medical/Trauma category has been submitted for ALS and BLS providers. . Industrial Firefighting for Structural Firefighters This class will help Structural Firefighters to understand the complexi-ties of responding to fires in industrial facilities. Discussion will in-clude the importance of reviewing the in-house pre-plans and emergen-cy plant procedures and to incorporate them into the department’s re-sponse to an emergency/fire in the facility. Students will have the op-portunity to roll in and extinguish industrial type props fires by closing valves, using foam, fixed monitors and other standard fire equipment. PREREQUISITES: -ELIF or FFI and SBS. CLASS LIMIT -24 STUDENTS LOCATION -BC3 INSTRUCTOR -Kevin Smith/Donny Crawford TOG and SCBA with a spare bottle is required. BASIC WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER / PA-130 (WFBB) This course emphasizes safety, basic skills, and teamwork in preparing individual wildland firefighters to work together as an effective fire-fighting unit. Junior Firefighters 14 and up may attend. PREREQUISITES: -ELIS CLASS LIMIT: -30 STUDENTS LOCATION: -BC3 INSTRUCTOR: -Clay Williams Field exercises require the student to wear leather, non-composition, lug sole, 8” top (minimum) boots, leather gloves, non-synthetic long sleeved shirt and pants (Nomex is acceptable) and a non-metallic hard hat with chin strap and eye protection. EMERGENCY VEHICLE DRIVER TRAINING (EVDT) A large proportion of emergency responder deaths and injuries occur as a result of motor vehicle accidents involving emergency response vehi-cles. This course is suitable for both novice and veteran emergency ve-hicle operators, consisting of 8 hours of classroom and 8 hours of driv-ing on a competency course. It will teach, reinforce and review those issues and skills needed by anyone who operates a motor vehicle in re-sponding to an emergency. Students are encouraged to bring their own Department’s vehicles. Must be 18 years of age with a valid PA Driv-er’s License.
