MEDIA RELEASE Weekly Incident Summary March 4-10, 2019 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, March 4, 2019 00:54 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a single- vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Main St N and Carruthers Rd. Halton Regional Police and Halton Paramedic Services were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. 10:49 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Elmore Dr in Acton. Halton Regional Police and Halton Paramedic Services were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. 11:12 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle fire on Mountainview Rd N. No flames were visible upon arrival. Prior to arrival the driver had extinguished a small crate filled with oily rags and combustibles with a dry chemical extinguisher. Power to the electric motor was disconnected, with minor fire damage to the truck’s interior and light smoke damage. Damage to the truck and contents is estimated to be under $5,000. 15:33 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a single- vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Winston Churchill Blvd and 5 Sideroad. On scene fire staff made patient contact and extricated the patient out the passenger side door. Halton Paramedic Services arrived and continued with patient care and Halton Regional Police arrived on scene and provided traffic control. Halton Hills Hydro was contacted to attend on scene due to a hydro pole struck by the vehicle. Weekly Incident SummaryMarch 4-10, 2019

HALTON HILLS, ON –

Monday, March 4, 201900:54 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Main St N and Carruthers Rd. Halton Regional Police and Halton Paramedic Services were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required.

10:49 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Elmore Dr in Acton. Halton Regional Police and Halton Paramedic Services were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required.

Tuesday, March 5, 201900:04 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a grease fire on Guelph St. Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival and advised that, along with building personnel, had extinguished the fire using fire extinguishers. Fire staff confirmed the fire was extinguished. Building personnel were advised that the Health department had been notified and that before using equipment again it would need to be inspected and tested by an outside service company.

01:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Carruthers Rd. On scene fire staff entered the building and finding no concerns cleared the scene.

03:05 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Carruthers Rd. On scene fire staff met with building personnel, entered the building and again, found no concerns. Building personnel were advised to have the system serviced.

04:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Carruthers Rd. On scene fire staff met with building personnel and advised them to silence the alarm and perform a fire watch every 30mins until necessary repairs can be made to the system.

11:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist for a carbon monoxide (CO) detector on Rachlin Dr in Acton. On scene fire staff entered the home, and using

detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff determined that the detector was faulty and advised to have it replaced.

15:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Chapel St. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff replaced the batteries with no further concerns.

19:23 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Northridge Cr. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff replaced the batteries with no further concerns.

21:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Mill St E in Acton. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. No further concerns.

22:28 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision on Fifth Line in Acton. Halton Regional Police and Halton Paramedic Services were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff disabled the vehicle and cleared the scene.

Wednesday, March 6, 201903:55 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Mountainview Rd N. Halton Paramedic Services were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required.

16:10 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Guelph St. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised that the smoke alarm had activated on the third floor. No visible issues. Building personnel were able to reset alarm.

22:50 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Bridlewood Blvd in Acton. On scene fire staff checked the smoke alarms and found that they needed to be replaced. Fire staff provided a smoke alarm and advised the homeowner to replace the expired detectors. No further concerns.

Thursday, March 7, 201909:36 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Brigden Gate. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised this was a false alarm. Fire staff confirmed the false alarm and advised building personnel to contact their service company for follow-up.

Friday, March 8, 201911:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an unknown odour on Munro Circle. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who advised that there was a burning smell coming from their furnace. Upon inspection the venting motor was not spinning on start-up, which was causing an over heat and an odour of burning. The power to the furnace was shut off until it could be repaired by an HVAC technician.

15:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist in the area of Confederation St & Main St in Glen Williams. Union Gas was on scene upon arrival and directed fire staff to where the ground was smoking as well as arching and popping by the gas meter. A severely flooded basement prevented fire staff from accessing the electrical panel.

Hydro was called to disconnect the house. The homeowner was advised to contact their insurance company.

17:22 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an unknown odour on Main St N in Acton. On scene fire staff met with the homeowners who thought they could smell gas. Fire staff entered the home and using detectors found no concerns.

17:42 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Guelph St. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised that a "low pressure" alarm was sounding. Building personnel contacted a technician to come in and repair the system.

17:46 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Armstrong Ave. On scene no alarm bells could be heard. Fire staff met with building personnel who advised that they were having problems with their alarm panel and were advised to contact their alarm company for servicing

22:05 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Armstrong Ave. While enroute fire was advised technicians were on scene servicing the panel, no further concerns.

22:34 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Dominion Gardens Dr. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff installed a new CO detector on the second floor outside the sleeping area and replaced the battery in the second CO detector. No further concerns.

Saturday, March 9, 201903:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on Durham St. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. No further concerns.

Sunday, March 10, 201920:40 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Commerce Cres in Acton. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised that the alarm activated due to water on a pull station. Alarm was reset by building personnel. Fire staff confirmed no concerns and cleared the scene.

Weekly Safety MessageIf you are driving down the road and see/hear the lights and sirens of an emergency vehicle, move to the right and stop to allow emergency vehicles to move easily down the road. Once the emergency vehicles have passed merge back into traffic when it is safe to do so.
