Dear Church Family, Life throws us a few curve balls sometimes; I know over the past six years my family has had a few thrown at them: loss of my brother at age 44 (6 yrs. this Nov. 14), I had stage 4 colon cancer (Feb, 2009), loss of my father (May 3, 2010), loss of my mother in law (who was like a mom to me) [March 18, 2012], almost lost my husband this year (spent 8 months in a hospital facility, 4 of those in Hospice) and now my mom (Nov. 7), AND through all this God has given me and my family comfort.
He has given me and my family wonderful friends, church members and extended family to help through these times of sorrows and for that we are grateful. Thank you for bringing food to the house prior to the memorial service, sending a card, saying a word of encouragement and praying for us.
BUT the greatest gift he has given us is eternal life, so my family and I will someday be reunited with them.
And as Kendell would say, for a GOD like that we can all say: THANKS BE TO GOD!
O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good. Psalm 118:29

JUBILANT SENIORS TRIP TO THE SPEEDWAY CLUB
At this writing, The Jubilant Team hope that each of you had a joyous Thanksgiving, and that you are getting excited planning for the Christmas season. All seniors 55 and older mark your calendar now for Saturday, January 25th at 10:00 a.m. Make your way to the fellowship hall to enjoy the Winter/Valentine’s Brunch catered by Missi Fortsch and the delicious dessert table furnished by the Jubilant Team. There will be a Winter/Valentine’s Musical for your enjoyment and fun and fellowship for all! More detailed information to follow in the classrooms by your team members about cost per person. Kim will be the contact person.

God with Us…..
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14
The words of the prophet come to us: The virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel. Immanuel will come.
Immanuel is Hebrew for “God [is] with us.” We often see this word spelled Emmanuel. This is from the Greek transliteration of the word that we find in Matthew 1:23 where Matthew quotes this prophecy. Thus, our Old Testament, written originally in Hebrew, will spell it Immanuel while our New Testament, with its Greek origins, will spell it Emmanuel.
The key of course is the meaning: God with us. This name represents a powerful statement about the reality of who our God is; God is the One who is with us. In all the ups and downs of life, God is the One who is with us.
I take great solace in that reality. I am very aware that often this season of joy is not joyful for everyone. When loss enters our lives or we suffer the pains of life or we suffer financial setbacks, the season can be filled with anguish, depression and sorrow. This pain is only made worse when we see others so joyful. Worse yet, many, in a well-meaning attempt to cheer others, casually say to us, “Smile, it’s Christmas, you know.”
It is times like this when we need to come to grips with the reality of Isaiah’s words. God with us, Immanuel, is coming. For us, on this side of the First Advent, Immanuel has come and remains with us, in the truest sense, to this very moment. As we face dejection and sadness, we can take comfort in the truth that our God is with us; indeed, our God has even struggled with the pains of life in human form to complete our salvation. For those filled with joy in this season, we can know that Immanuel travels with us always.
It is this God, the One who is with us, that will be with us in both the ups and downs of life. Immanuel has come, Immanuel is here and Immanuel will return.
During this season, we will be hearing words that help us go deeper with Immanuel. The season calls us to hear words like “Preparing,” “Waiting,” “Singing,” “Listening,” and “Wondering.” Let us hear those words as we gather close to the manger this Advent season. The season calls us close to Immanuel, but that only happens when we prepare for His return. Advent is our time to grow closer to Immanuel. Will we?

Christmas Family Night
Come join us Wednesday night, December 18 for Family Night. Folks of all ages are invited to come and share with us following our Wednesday night supper, which begins at 5:30 p.m., for a time of celebrating the Birth of the Christ Child! We’ll play some games and enjoy fellowship together! The program will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Youth are invited to our Christmas Progressive Dinner Sunday, December 22 at 5:00 p.m. We will meet at the church and then go for appetizers. We will then return to the church for a special dinner in the fellowship hall followed by a Candlelight Communion Service especially for youth! Finally, we will go to the Cameron’s house for dessert and gifts. Parents can pick up youth at the Cameron house at 124 Birchwood Court. We will finish around 9:00 p.m.
Youth should bring $5 to offset the cost of the food and bring a small inexpensive gift to be traded. Note: it’s OK to bring a funny gift, but it needs to be something Kendell would approve! If you’re not sure, check with him!!

Children’s Mentors Needed **We have 2 Mentors so far and would love 2 more**
Have you ever wanted to mentor a child? On Wednesday afternoons from 5:00—5:30 p.m. we have about 5 children who would love for an older adult to listen to them read, help them with math, time them as they write, or simply talk with them about their day. This would be a great opportunity for our Senior Adults who may already be coming to church for dinner. Won’t you come 30 minutes early and let us pair you with a child each week to mentor with? Please see Marie for more details.
On Friday, December 13th, we will do two live Nativity Scenes: One at 6:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. Pizza will be provided for those participating. See Marie to sign up.
A Night in Bethlehem is presented as part of the eighth annual Mount Holly Days Celebration. This is a wonderful opportunity for our church to come together to reach out to the Mount Holly community in an exciting and unique way.
