Berlin in 1878, the Ottoman empire was forced to retreat from most of Balkans.
New countries were established in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia.
Why (according to a legend), a small but inhabitted island of Ada Kale in Danube which was far away from the new Ottoman borders was left fot Ottoman rule?
10It was simply forgotten. In the Congress of
Berlin it was established that the border between Romania and Serbia in that place goes along Danube but it was forgotten that there is this island in Danube, therefore it was not mentioned and remained for the Ottomans. Ada Kale became a part of Romania only in the interbellum.
