    Reading

    This week we continued to review ourreading strategies! It is amazing how manydifferent words the kids are paying attentionto in order to expand their vocabulary! Theyare using these new words in their writing andthat makes us so excited!

    Homework

    March Homework will be dueTuesday, April 2 nd!! Be sure that all theshamrocks are colored, 10 activities arecomplete and mom/dad signs theHomework sheet. We also LOVED thewonderful work you did at home about

    your President! We have learned so manyinteresting facts about all of our pastleaders! Thank you parents for yoursupport with this project.

    Math

    We started our new unit onmeasurement this week. The kids are workingon meausring lengths using different unitsand measuring with accuracy. We have beenpracticing by measuring different thingsaround our classroom. It will be important forthe kids to order three objects by length andto compare two objects indirectly by using athird object. Also, we will be working on theidea that if an object is measured by two

    different people in the same units bothshould get the same answer. The kids arereally having fun exploring in ourmeasurement unit!

    WRITINGOur focus in writing has been to go

    from good to great! We have been workinghard on incorporating new and interestingwords into our writing as well as writingKNOCK your SOCKS of topic sentences.This means starting our topic sentence withthe who, what, when, where or a questionrelated to the topic. We are getting reallygood at writing topic sentences that captureour readers attention. We have also talkedabout writing for a specific audience and howimportant it is for our writing to neat andorganized.

    Parent-Teacher Conferences YOU ROCK!!! We had 100% of our

    first grade families attend parent-teacher conferences! This goes to

    show you what great partners you arein your childs education!!! Thank you

    for all of your support!!!

    Social Studies

    Presidents Day!!! We have beenbuilding our schema around some of thepresidents of the United States. GeorgeWashington and Abraham Lincoln have beentwo presidents we have spent the most timestudying. We have been identifying anddiscussing what qualities have made themgood leaders. We cant wait to learn moreabout all of the other presidents through thehomework assignment we sent home onWednesday. Please help get your childresearch and learn more about the presidentthey picked. Remember to have them draw aportrait too!
