SERMON Richard Aylor “Living Bread”

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

+HYMN 312 “Take Us As We Are, O God” ENDLESS FEAST

+AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from Colossians 1: 15-20)

Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible. All things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn of the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OFFERING

CALL TO CONFESSION Brothers and Sisters, why do we confess our sin? Because all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. But why do we do it together? Because we are a community, a covenant people.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Eternal God, in whom we live And move and have our being, Whose face is hidden from us by our sins, And whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts: Cleanse us from all our offenses, And deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, That with reverent and humble hearts We may draw near to you, Confessing our faults, Confiding in your grace, And finding in you our refuge and strength, Through Jesus Christ your Son... SILENT PRAYER KYRIE MERBECKE Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON Hear the good news! Hope does not disappoint us, For God’s love has been poured into our hearts Through the Holy Spirit given to us in baptism. Believe this good news and give thanks: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

+GLORIA PATRI (581) GREATOREX Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen.

PASSING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all! And also with you!

TIME WITH THE YOUNG CHURCH [Three year olds through second graders are invited to come forward, place their offering in the plate and have prayer with the minister before leaving with their teachers for Children’s Worship. During the summer schedule, there will be one combined class for ages 3 - 2nd Grade which will meet in Room 208.]

OFFERTORY ANTHEM “Gift of Finest Wheat” - Robert E. Kreutz You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat; Come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat. As when the shepherd calls his sheep, they know and heed his voice; So when you call your family Lord, we follow and rejoice. With joyful lips we sing to you our praise and gratitude. That you should count us worthy, Lord, to share this heavenly food. Is not the cup we bless and share the blood of Christ out-poured? Do not one cup, one loaf declare our oneness with the Lord? The mystery of your presence, Lord, no mortal tongue can tell: Whom all the world cannot contain comes in our hearts to dwell. You give yourself to us, O Lord; Then selfless let us be, to serve each other in your name, in truth and charity.

(setting by John Ferguson)

+DOXOLOGY (606) OLD HUNDREDTH Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

+PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME
