    UPDATE!

Haiti News for the Congregation$1,000,000 for Haiti from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans

If we cant go, we are asked to send .Lutheran World Relief

LCMS World Relief/Human CareELCA Disaster Response

    WELS Committee on Relief

Thank you so much!!! All the matching funds are gone. That means thatin less than a month, Thrivent Financial and our member have combined to

contribute $3 million for the earthquake response efforts in Haiti! Thousandsof members contributed through our Helping Haiti effort, which provided a$1 Thrivent Financial contribution to every $2 members gave to any of fourLutheran relief agencies. We pledged to add up to $1 million to donations ourmembers made, and we reached that goal last Monday. Lutheran World Reliefand the three Lutheran church body relief organizations that have receiveddonations through the Helping Haiti efforts have provided food, shelter and

water to meet immediate needs. They are also committed to continuing theirsupport as Haiti begins to rebuild.

Therefore, you are now asked to not send your contributions to Thriventany longer for this effort. Please send your contributions directly to the relieforganization from the list above because all the matching money is gone.

Thank you so much for providing $2 million in less than a month. Keep ongiving. Haiti really needs your help.

    Thank you, Dennis Miller

School News - By Principal, Elaine PoppMission Statement:

First Lutheran School exists to proclaim the Gospel as we teach academic skills and Christian values, establishing a strong foundation for a child to live a successful, positive, and Christ-centered life.

Our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes had a great day at the Florida StateFair on Tuesday. We spent our time in the educational section. Thestudents were able to see many farm animals and even milk a cow. They

were also able to make their own butter, watch a dog show and many otherneat experiences. On the way out of the fair, they were allowed to makesome purchases and buy some fair food like fried Pepsi and friedSnickers. Yum! Even though it was rainy and everyone got pretty wetas the day went on, it was still a fun day.

On Wednesday in Chapel, students in grades 3-8 received their HonorRoll and Principal List certificates. There were 31 students who achieved this honor for the 2nd

quarter. Then, in the afternoon, they enjoyed an ice cream treat. Good job students!

Enrollment for next school year has now begun! Our current school families received their re-enrollment packets earlier this week. They receive first priority for enrollment before openingup to new families on February 23rd. On Thursday evening, we held an Open House for Pre-School families to talk about our kindergarten program. On Thursday, we had our 3rd quarterParents Meeting to discuss enrollment and upcoming events. Parent Meetings are a great wayto communicate with our families and give them an opportunity to be heard. Please keep ourenrollment in your daily prayers. We would love to be bursting at the seams with students next

year! Interested families can come by any day and take a school tour and see what a greatprogram we offer, so be sure and tell any friends or family who are looking for a school for next

    year.

Hands-On RecyclingPLEASE REMEMBER - We are collecting used INK CARTRIDGES, LASER and FAXCARTRIDGES, and CELL PHONES. Bring any of these items to the boxes in the narthex orto the church or school offices. You can also contact Patti in the school office if you wouldlike a form for your company to fill out for Hands-On to come and pick up from them

directlyand give First Lutheran School the credit. Thank you!

    Unconditional Love

Ah, to love unconditionally. Is this possible in ourlimited human form? If yes, then it takes the Spirit of

    God to make it so.

From the beginning Godloved us in our nakednessand weakness, and even inour stubbornness back inthe Garden. God loved us

through the wilderness andthrough the rebellion. Over and over we can identify personally with the stories in theBible that reflect human conditions and God's love. God even loved us when we nailed himon the cross. God loves us today. Unconditional love.

Why, then, is it so difficult for us to love others as God loves us? We have The Role Model;we experience unconditional love ourselves. Yet we continue to place conditions on those

we love, often without realizing it. The ability to love unconditionally seems beyond thecapability of humankind.

But with God, all things are possible. If we call on God's spirit, if we strive to follow God'slead, we may learn to love one another as God loves us, freely and completely and with noconditions.

Dear God, thank you for your unconditional love. We call on your spirit. Teach ushow to love as you love. Amen.
