College Student Spaghetti Dinner update: It was a gloomy, chilly, rainy evening when 167
hungry students entered Fellowship Hall on April 28. They left with full stomachs, smiles and
encouragement from our volunteers to successfully complete their exams and enjoy their summer
activities. YOUR support through prayers, cash donations, purchasing soda, and especially the
wonderful desserts have made this dinner program very popular as it continues to grow. We'll
resume in September and new volunteers are always welcome.
Today is the final day for donations of new underwear to be donated to the Rainbow Connection -
underwear for all ages is needed; please keep original packaging and tags on. Donation baskets
remain near the altar rail - let's fill 'em up!
Worship Leader: We are looking for a worship leader for our new Sunday morning worship
service “Light for the City” starting this summer. This person will lead singing and accompany with either a keyboard or guitar. An applicant must be personable and familiar with praise and worship music. Apply by email to [email protected] or see Pastor Jim.
In Honor of Mother’s Day….the women present today are invited to take a potted
flower at the close of the worship service. These tokens of love are a gift from

OPENING PRAYER: Eric Arndt
Unison: Father, we come to you and welcome you into this sanctuary.
You are our Creator and Provider. You formed us in our moth-
er’s wombs. We are thankful for our mothers! We ask you to
lead and guide and shepherd us this morning. Our desire, Father
is to know and love and worship you! In Jesus Name, Amen!
MORNING PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE Pastor Jim
FOLLOWED BY THE LORD’S PRAYER (Unison):
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
AFFIRMING TOGETHER: “Mothers” Eric Arndt Genesis 3:20; Exodus 20:12; 2 Timothy 1:5; Psalm 131:1-2
Unison: WE BELIEVE that the man named his wife Eve, Life, because she
was the mother of all living things.
WE BELIEVE that we should honor our mothers, “so that your
days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving
you.”
WE BELIEVE that mothers give us life, and pass on to us their life
of faith, even as Paul said to Timothy, “I am reminded of your sin-
cere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your
mother Eunice, and now, I am sure, lives in you.”
(Continues on the next page)
(Page 4)
WE BELIEVE that God’s love for us is like a mother’s love, com-
forting us and giving us life, even as the psalmist says: “O LORD,
my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not
occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But
I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its
mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.” Amen.
RESPONSE HYMN: “Happy the Home When God is There” Red Hymnal No. 445 Verses 1 and 2.
Hap-py the home when God is there,
and love fills ev-ery breast;
when one their wish, and one their prayer,
and one their heaven-ly rest.
Hap-py the home where Je-sus’ name
is sweet to ev-ery ear;
where chil-dren ear-ly speak his fame,
and par-ents hold him dear.
THE MINISTRY OF MUSIC: “A Parent’s Prayer” Boyd Bacon
