FameDaniel Kehlmann $29.95 pb Fame dramatizes the alienating e ects of seeingone’s life re ected and refracted in the public eye.The book is presented as 'a novel in nine stories', but the connections between the tales are, for themost part, very loose. Characters pop up again,

some scenes are seen again from a di erent perspective, butthese tales don't blend together very obviously. The rst storyis about a man who nally gets a mobile phone, but nds heis receiving someone else's calls. The stories overlap in variousways: we meet the actor who should be the recipient of thesephone calls but who becomes ‘invisible’ without his phone andconsequently becomes an impersonator of himself, while a laterstory clears up the number-mix-up that led to the technicalproblem in the rst place.
