Electric Run (4/20)

Franklin’s Track Team Meet (4/9)

Neon colors lit the night as Franklin Key Club wore bright yellow shirts and run-ners decked themselves in glow. Volunteers organized brightly colored cups which, under the black-lights during the nighttime, glowed. After organizing blue, pink, green, and orange cups into neat rows, volunteers filled the cups with water. Others helped the coordinators prepare the glow-sticks for the race. When the race started, volunteers busied themselves with handing out water and snacks. Due to some problems caused by the bugs in the area, Key Clubbers had to work harder to make sure the runners had clean water. Jenny Xue who was working at a water-station stated, “Volunteering for the Electric Run was different from any other event. It was the first time that I had to step up and face my fear of bugs. For the entire night, we dumped water out from cups and refilled them, since the bugs were attracted to the bright neon cups. I enjoyed cheering on the runners and working at water stations. It was an interesting experience, and I can't wait for next year!”

In the middle of the track season, Franklin Key Club as-sisted the school’s track team with timing races, measuring the events, and other jobs. Nick Stringfellow who helped time racers said, “I thought it was fun to help out at the first track meet I've been to, especially since we had other Key Clubbers participating in the actual meet.” Whether it was leveling the sandpit or shouting times out for the runners, Franklin Key Club members made themselves readily avail-able to help the track team meet run as smoothly as possi-ble.

Member of the Month

Sahil Sidhu, the tall Indian guy you’ve probably seen vol-unteering on the weekends or speaking about comical happenings at Key Club events he had participated in, is this month’s Member of the Month! Although originally joining Key Club as a joke, Sahil discovered his passion for volunteering with his fellow Key Clubbers this year and earned 70 hours. His favorite event he had attended was DCON in March. Sahil says, “Other clubs and things like National Honors Society cannot provide the emo-tional attachment that Key Club has given me.” Sahil is also Franklin Key Club’s new Web/Tech Head. Con-gratulations!

March: Samantha Tai

April: Sahil Sidhu

March’s Member of the Month is freshman... Samantha Tai! She participated in many events throughout the school year including the Tet Festi-val and District Convention. Samantha said, “I came to Key Club to complete my hours in a fun way. I enjoyed spending time helping the commu-nity as spending time with my friends.” Samantha likes to work with children and cute things. In her free time, when she isn't volunteering, Sammi likes to play tennis, watch Youtube, and play League of Legends.

Sahil stands with Franklin’s IP Bulle-tin Editor, Alvin Tai, at his favorite event, DCON 2013.
